I just got my shipping confirmation yesterday, and I'm in the US. They have a lot of cleanup to do, so there's still plenty of hope. Just a lot of waiting too.
Create a limited print of a product, have a huge problem later. Honestly, the idea of having masterpieces in boosters was better.
Having the masterpieces in booster packs actually ended up hurting LGSs. Since so many boxes were purchased and opened in order to search for the masterpieces, and most of those were purchased at wholesale price online most likely, the value of singles in those sets were drastically reduced. That reduction of value for the regular cards incredibly hurt local stores, who make a ton of their money selling those singles to players.
I can understand and sympathize about the purchasing experience and being out of pocket for somewhere between 7 and 30 days as credit cards are reimbursed. However, anything apart from those two reasons are completely irrational.
At the end of the day, Wizards wanted to sell a collector's item in a limited quantity. They collaborated with one of the world's best e-commerce sites and the demand was just too high.
EBay has to learn a lesson and scale their infrastructure to meet demand in special cases like this.
Broken hearts and that is about it.
Edit: Spelling
This really isn't eBay's fault.
It wasn't their infrastructure that oversold a specific quantity? And did so because scummy players were using bots and fake accounts to purchases? It's not as cut and dry as the "hate WOTC" crowd wants to believe.
Edit: saw this attached photo floating around Reddit. Want to be mad at someone? Be mad at these people, who cheated the system in order to prevent players like you from having a fair chance to buy.
That is so disappointing.
But clearly we all need to do this or next time we can get screwed over again.
yeah i saw people talking about that image. as i understand it this person allegedly didnt use bots but rather just paid a lot of people they knew $50 (so $300 per) to get so many boxes. no idea if its true, as apparently all of them had no knowledge of mtg and or just didnt care about the value of the contents; however it would explain how someone could circumvent being flagged for duplicate mailing addresses, IP address, and payment method.
i have no doubt that bots were used, and some were successful. however their benefit mainly comes from being able to submit a purchase request quicker since direct calls to the page bypasses them having to load. having a bot network with real distinct physical addresses to mail to, using different payment methods of which pass common fraud detection heuristics - is not trivial. at least not unless you have a serious background in digital crime.
then again the mtg collector/player crowd has close links to the cryptocurrency crowd; so maybe it was more rampant than im giving credit.

Using other people's accounts who have no interest in the product themselves is essentially the same thing as using a bot or fake account to make the purchase.
I see this all the time on the floor of Comic Con every year. I was able to get four sets of the Terese Nielson PWs, because 3 of my friends agreed to wait in line with me and get one (limit 1 per badge, stamped and checked with ID). However, I also ran across a guy early in the day, and then again late in the day, who had been paying people in line to purchase them for him (usually $20-40), and ended up with over 100 sets.
Where do we draw the line between opportunistic and scummy parasites?

yeah i dont know. i think answering that question would involve digging into the dark corners of the secondary market, why it is the way it is, etc.
im not naive enough to believe everyone should get the cards they want for cheap, or that those who recognize there is a market for mtg cards/products and participate in it for their own gain are bad people. lying, stealing, cheating, scamming, etc; its when those classes of malicious or sociopathic behavior are involved that we know for sure its in 'scumbag' territory.
as to your example, i think the guy at the convention is worse. mostly because its an in person event (gotta believe security watches for such stuff), and they would have had to be approaching and soliciting random people; which is disruptive to the festive atmosphere and all around just shady.
the guy who got all those ME boxes, yeah he violated the spirit of the rules but not the actual rules. not to condone it or anything, but unlike bots that exploit the technology in a way that can be harmful to the system (overload requests crashing something), the purchases are indistinguishable from any other and paid for legitimately. im not even sure they could devise some means to detect the same happening in the future, and even if they could, acting upon it would be something other than an impartial sale. itd be asking wizards to somehow know and give preference to 'real mtg players who just want the cards to play with'; which is absurd. if they want less opportunists, then dont print 12k boxes of something with so much value packed in the act of getting one functionally doubles your money immediately. raise the price, choose different walkers, print more boxes, etc.

I just saw this image and came here to post the link to Reddit.
I’m not even sure what to say about this but, quite honestly, it doesn’t really improve my opinion on this situation, flippers and WotC’s handling.
Even better, I don’t know if anyone mentioned this. That $20 eBay “compensation” is only good for two weeks. You don’t spend it, you lose it. Any confirmation on that?
Did you have to accept the cancellation of the sale? I haven’t clicked that yet because I haven’t received my refund yet.
(And yes, I received the first couple messages that said my order was cancelled, I would receive a refund and a foil sheet. So I know I qualify for it.)
On the other side of things, I got my shipping confirmation four days ago, and apparently my FedEx package is sitting in a hub an hour and a half from me as of 8am yesterday, but hasn't moved at all and is, for whatever reason, scheduled for Wednesday delivery. I don't know if you all hate FedEx as much as I do, but they have routinely found baffling new ways to suck at their jobs of delivering things on time for as long as I have lived in my current home. I avoid them like the plague and dread any time some heartless, soulless seller forces it upon me.
I now received the message on eBay about the foil sheet and the refunds, it appears that both items had the payments refunded but I’m only seeing a very small amount refunded on my bank account (only the tax for one of the boxes..). Anyone else happened the same?

Depends on how you paid for it. There are several steps if you used PayPal. Have you opened a claim? Or are just letting them work it out?

I didn’t even use PayPal for the payment so I don’t even know how it works just waiting for the money to be refunded or should I do something more?

In your purchase history, you should be able to select Open a Claim, and eBay will step in and resolve any unresolved issues. The eBay system is very supportive of buyers.

I doesn't seem to have that option available but behold that today I received the payment for 2 boxes plus international fees for those and am now only waiting for the payment of the other box (already received the international fee for that one a few days ago) so I might just wait it out.
Ended up with a playset of Dovin's Veto and 2x Teferi, Time Raveler which slot into my Modern U/W Midrange deck which is nice.
The 1x Ilharg, the Raze-Boar is actually really awesome as I wanted to try him in my Modern Big Mana Green Devotion deck.
My box was super weird. 3x of the same rare and 2x of 3 other rares and they opened in same sequence from different rolls. Just one mythic and no foils. Also, the distribution was wacky in the common and uncommon slot. It's ok to miss some of the uncommons and this happens, but it's strange to miss 2~3 commons of each color.
I just talked with a rep at Ebay. He says that I should receive my gift card by Friday & that the email they send will also include more info on when Hasbro will be sending out the foil sheet.
I don't know if I have a legitimate claim to anything, but I attempted purchase at at soon as they were put up. I was taken to a page where it said my order was confirmed and when it would ship. I never received any email and my product never shipped. After a few days, I contacted WotC. They said to contact Hasbro. I contacted Hasbro, they never responded...
Am I doing something wrong? Or do I not have a leg to stand on?

Check your ebay inbox. This is where you got the yay/nay message. See if there is anything there.
If nothing is there, do you have an email confirmation from Ebay? I got that immediately.

How much worse can it get?
People got a full refund, a free uncut foil sjeet, AND free money. But the free money goes away if you don't spend it? What a travesty of entitlement.
