So the happily ever after ending is real after all.
This story is a utter trash.
Apocalypse and Time Spirale are masterpieces of drama and tragedy compared to this.
This war was a joke the whole time.
This at least makes sense, as Theros has an afterlife. I'm not upset by it. This is the logical conclusion of his arc.
Changing out of nowhere conveniently to a plane where is a heaven the last minute you know you are going to die seems to me the most horrible way to force a happy ending to me.
Urza, Venser, Gerrard....they are in no heaven. They have no consciousness, they are truly lost forever into an eternal nothingness.
Gideon is just a happy spirit of nyx now. It's totally irrelevant that is dead, if you have a consciousness as a ghost you are not truly death in this game.
Hopefully they don't bring him back, it would undo his whole character arc. But knowing Wizards...
Knowing Wizards, he's dead. Elspeth's death is a technicality (because of how she died), but other than that, when major characters die they stay dead.
That depends on whether the art in this card is meant symbolically or literally. If literally, he has similar chances of return as Elspeth.
The Immortal Sun is probably still active when Gideon dies so he can't really planeswalk to Theros at that point. Of course, I have no idea how Theros souls behave when not actually on Theros...

If Urza's soul hadn't been obliterated by the Legacy Weapon firing, he'd not be in heaven. He'd be in the deepest darkest abyss of a hellish realm where he belongs.

If he went to Theros to meet his irregulars then death don't rule hin from comming back again.
But i would prefer if he stayed on Theros, maybe he can talk to the gods about the other planes and help creating a better planar defense plan for Theros and also train some champions. (maybe also get a spirit card on a eventual return, or at least a cameo) But i would like if he even gets a chance to revive he refuses it and stay in his home plane as a ghost helping where he can.
Also another thing of the leak that gets confirmed.
The Immortal Sun is probably still active when Gideon dies so he can't really planeswalk to Theros at that point. Of course, I have no idea how Theros souls behave when not actually on Theros...
Idk if we can rule out the sun being deactivated when he died tho. (guess we have to wait the novel to comeout)
So, Gideon didn't actually sacrifice anything then. I bet the two (two!) other named planeswalkers who "died" in this "devastating war" aren't really dead either, but rather, catching up with old friends and chillaxing in heaven. Great storytelling, Wizards.
The Immortal Sun is probably still active when Gideon dies so he can't really planeswalk to Theros at that point. Of course, I have no idea how Theros souls behave when not actually on Theros...
No, the Immortal Sun get already destroyed by Chandra at that point.

English version is NOT soulful Redemption. It does not fit the crunch. As the numbering places it between Gleaming Overseer and Hualti’s Raptor. Any guess in English Translation? I have it now as Graceful Redemption.

I got Touching Redemption. Although my spanish is rusty.
As my favourite Planeswalker-character eva, i don't care bout this card. Gideon stands for all the best things in white: Couragous, selfless, protective, loving etc.
& by the way (gotta admit) very handsome & a physical powahouse !
I don't wanna believe the clues . . . not The Man himself . . . Gideon d:`(

It is sad. But at least he goes out heroic and on his own terms. Unlike some other great white characters that got corrupted before the end (Oketra, Avacyn, Bruna, Gisela). Those 4 hit hard. Especially Oketra.
Not to mention if they do just Dead Zone Bolas, they can always bring him back at a later time like they did with Emrakul (who is also effectively Dead Zoned).
If they're saving these turds for a later date, where tf is Yawgmoth? Whens gonna be his time????

I'm actually kind of shocked at just how negatively you're taking this card. Gideon's dead for real, dude.

I wouldn't suggest looking into the storyline thread. Seems that many people who hate the storyline so far are actually trying to find the worst possible interpretation of events at the moment. At this point nothing in the actual story could please these people (well except all of the Gatewatch and nearly all planeswalkers dying seemingly).
I'm actually really saddened (though it is not surprising) that Gideon (actually my favorite planeswalker besides Tamiyo and Ajani) is dead, but I'm glad that he found some kind of redemption for what happened to his irregulars.

I'd settle for most of the gatewatch being maimed, traumatized, and the organization being dissolved. Personally.

People who come to complain will always find something to rag on about, and the better a set is, the more likely people will target the story. If folks can't complain about cards, they'll hit something else. The same thing happened to Eldritch Moon.

That is the reason why I almost stopped going there after some 14 years. The people who actually knew their lore left and/or became contect creators (Squirle,Zazdor, Jay13x). Now, with some notable exceptions, is a fest of people trying to fing the most inventive insults to storytelling, story itself, etc...

I'll rather see him just lost his spark and lost hid memories not entirely dead. That would soon lead him into a path of retriving it like Wolverine losing his adamantium in the fatal attraction arc.
We had seen many mystical individual dies that are not even a planeswalker returned not as a zombie or a spirit but a fully rebirth and restored entity why not something like gideon. We had seen planeswalker even create living superior being like angels?
We could also assume that the not every plane have similar way to work with the dead and the souls, And also the rest of the other united planeswalker especially liliana did a combined effort to save and a favor to gideon in return. Which the other planeswalker in the previous story didn't have the privileges.

Well, you can obviously have that opinion, it's just that I get the feeling that there are certain people who are not happy until everyone shares their negative view on everything regarding this story (and will constantly write as if their opinions were objective fact) and who try to portray story points in as bad a light as possible even if more positive interpretation are given by the story itself (again, it's not the fact they don't like them that I can't stand, it's the attitude that only their opinion should matter). That's not the case for you as far as I can see, but definitely for the post I answered to. Also, well, the all were traumatized at least once during the whole Gatewatch arc (through Emrakul, the Amonkhet gods or Bolas), so there is that.^^

Yeah, I'm not down on the idea of the arc. In fact following the story of Bolas through all these sets is really quite amazing. I also feel that the story of Gideon has been quite good, and this is imo the logical, meaningful, conclusion of it.
I just wish we saw that for the rest of the gatewatch as well, because I find the whole concept, a poor one. I want DIFFERENT stories now. I dont want Gatewatch. I want to follow Karn. I want to follow Teferi. We got a number of new Walkers from this set, where do they go, what do they do?
I'm just worried we are going to be stuck with Chandra/Jace/Liliana forever, and I'm REALLY tired of them as characters.
They tried with a tearjerking card and... I don't care one bit.
That's what the gatewatch did to these characters for me.
Overexposure to the point that if they die either I don't care or complain because they killed the less unlikeable one of the bunch.
I was much more invested when Sorin had to unmake Avacyn or in the fate of Mirrodin during the scars block.
I'm actually cool with the storyline if this is how it turns out. It seems more fitting and a slower landing than the abrupt end to Apocalypse. I don't know...Something feels different this time around. Gideon was one of those characters you love to hate and now that he's out of the picture for an undisclosed period of time it might make people grow fonder for an eventual epilogue of some sort down the line.
What would piss me off, though, is if they pulled something like Young and the Restless style where Bolas and Ugin have a long-lost sibling who's even more bat***** crazy and enters the scene for some John Cena-esque rumbles. Then I'd be out. Out out out. *walks off cussing*

If you are going to call it a War, have there be stakes - have their be casualties. Don't sell it as something that has high stakes if it doesn't have actual stakes.
That is why people are upset. They bought into an idea and were sold something else.

For an uncommon that's pretty sweet. Imagine that with Hoofprints of the Stag and fun things like Hazoret the Fervent?
