Love that as a recycler for Jump-Start and works well with surveil. Can see this being run in a Dimir Shell to recharge things in Standard. Not super powerful, but definitely fine.

Yeah, the self-exile here if obviously so you don't chain-loop these things. Still, it's a very nice card with some strategic depth, esp. if we get that Arena Modern format, would help feed the Scarab God!

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Something really rad about this cycle - which I didn't notice until I saw it pointed out on Reddit - is that each card has two parts, each of which would also fit the other colour of one of the depicted guilds. So in this case, black also gets self-mill and red also gets instant/sorcery recovery.
Damn, those inter guild cards are nice. Probably next time we return to rav it will be less focused only on guilds and probably they will be able to represent all guilds in one set.
Sad that we have soo few legendaries creatures this time, soo many potential for cool new characters on cards.
I love the guilds coming together and it would be interesting to see three color guilds the next time we go back to Ravnica
If anything, I think we would see more guild alliances, rather than just three-color guilds. The set would still have two-color guild cards, but it would also have three-color cards representing spells that are cast in cooperation between two guilds that share a color, and those cards would have the watermark of each guild depicted therein.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Yeah, I really love the design. Another way of looking at it (and the first thing I really noticed) is that the two abilities are obviously both blue, but one is a "Dimir thing" and one is a "Izzet thing." Just like how the Green bond does something more Simic (searching for creatures) and Selesnya (lifegain) which are both green abilities but each pull the card toward a different guild. But as you say here, the other cool thing about that is how blue could be getting the card selection and white getting the lifegain. Great designs!

As for the card. Looks useful in digging for things you need.

Nope, it's referring to the Dimir agent wiping the memories of the Izzet mage after working with her.

(they really whiffed on the red one, though)
I thought both of them could be saying it. Izzet experiments are not without consequences.
