Ohh so that's why Ilharg is mono-red. To complete the cycle of gods.
Yep, we already deduced this as soon as we saw Ilharg.
I mean... The Amonkhet gods are zombies, and Ilharg isn't. The last time we got different flavors of gods in a block, the Three had a very different form of invulnerability than the five Amonkhet gods did. Ilharg isn't even from the same plane as the Amonkhet gods, it would have made flavor sense for them to have different showings of godhood. I'll take them being the same because same-set and all, but I wouldn't have assumed 100% that Ilharg would completely mirror the Amonkhet gods.
So, the more I read this card the more I like it. I just realized it doesn't say "nontoken permanents"...a zombie tribal deck that cranks out tokens could net some major card advantage from the Reprocess ability. It might actually make for some fun times for those decks.
I was trying to find a practical (read: janky but will get at least one person with it, once, at FNM) way to cast God-Eternal Bontu, sac Emergence Zone, then casting Awaken the Erstwhile, sac'ing all the tokens. Then maybe Cry of the Carnarium? All that for a Mind Twist in Standard. WORTH! Probably going to require some number of Cabal Stronghold to get my mana up there.
That's actually amazing.
5 mana for 5/6 menace who will always return to repeat the card-draw.
I im plannin a predominantly black Deck with Priest of forgotten Gods, fodder & finishers like Vraska, Ugin & Liliana.
That card-draw effect is massive to me. In such a Deck i will always have disposable stuff, which won't make a difference @ times. If so, draw 3 - 5 cards & have Bontu.
If he is put back into Deck, repeat card-draw when he reenters.
Imagine sacrificin creatures when Liliana is out
That doesn't say nontoken or nonland. Mayhem Devil triggers off any permanent too. A 2 card combo that deals at least 6 damage but usually closer to 10 divided as you choose is a pretty sick addition to an already good aristocrats deck. This is a value engine, a good body, and an instant kill with enough creatures.
Esper Control is already the most annoying thing in standard, and now with this new God mechanic, Esper it's probably going to be the only playable deck.

This is probably good enough to swap in for a sac outlet in my EDH Teysa Aristocrats. It's not a free, endlessly reusable outlet, but that draw probably makes up for it? And a 5/6 menace body for 5 that comes back is always going to be decent.
This referencing Reprocess and the GOD BOAR referencing Sneak Attack makes me wonder if the other 3 gods are going to basically all be "Powerful Urza block spells on a stick"

So your theory is creature versions of urza block power houses
So what would the other 3 be then?
No way in heck they would give kefnet show and tell ETB would they really want to bring that in standard (ahtough it would be higher mana cost though)
Oketra makes you immortal (kinda a new Platinum Angel)
Kefnet free-fields a permanent but gives your opponent opportunity to do same
Rhonas tutors for and fields a creature when he tuck-dies
Liliana: You seek to become a god, Bolas. But now you've given me control over four! Hmm...four Gods, four Demons, four friends...four really is the number of death, isn't it?
Where does this come from? This reminds me of Japanese, where the number four is pronounced the same way as the word for death 'shi'.

Fully behind Rhonas doing this, but he would have to search for a card not named God-Eternal Rhonas, so you couldn't stack the tuck, then the search, or have it be ONE death trigger with the search, THEN the tuck.

Yeah, I might even go so far as it saying "non-God creature". Some way to cut down on degeneracy.
My favorite thing about this is that it allows you to go completely balls to the walls and sac your entire board lands and all as soon as it comes out. That feels pretty godly.

How about this
“When God-eternal rhonas dies or is put into exile search your library for a creature card that isn’t named God-eternal Rhonas then put it into play then shuffle your library then you may put God-eternal Rhonas third from the top.”

Many thanks to DNC at Heroes of the Plane Studios
May sound evil for saying this... but good thing Bontu died on Amonkhet. She now has a better card.
