Creature - Zombie Wizard (R)

Whenever ~ attacks, you may cast target instant or sorcery card with converted mana cost less than or equal to ~'s power from your graveyard without paying its mana cost. If that card would be put into your graveyard this turn, exile it instead.

Is THIS the much-whispered about "Power 2-drop for Red" (no. Young Pyro already took the crown from Goblin Piledriver). But man is this powerful. On its own in Standard/Modern, it is super strong to swing in and get a free encore on your Lightning Bolts, Lava Spikes, Shocks, and Magma Sprays to help clear the way or dome the face, especially as doing so is another trigger for Runaway Steam-kin or Young Pyromancer or Monastery Swiftspear. But it also enables some sort of Red Heroic/Prowess thing, as you can flashback bigger and better spells if you power up the Arcanist with a Titan's Strength or Cartouche of Zeal or Madcap Skills first. Heck even in this set, Samut's Sprint + this is a turn three "build your own better ball lightning" as you end up getting to swing in with a 5/5 Trample Haste while scrying two (or even better, swing in with a 3/4 Trample Haste while you get another Light up the Stage or Skewer the Critics off). Just bonkers.

Dag, when I saw the threat title I was really hoping Arcanis the Omnipotent was making a comeback, for a moment. Then I realized Arcanist is a word in MtG.

Hrm.
So I can cast Colossus to pump him, then I can cast my Lightning Strikes and the Colossus again.
Yeah, he'll see play.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
I genuinely can't tell if this is a really cute card that I love for having a ton of potential...
Or an absurdly powerful card that works just fine on its own because casting Lightning Bolts and Serum Visions from your graveyard is insane value.
I'm going to hedge my bets and say it's somewhere in the middle.
Legacy Burn may have as well. Fireblast for free without the land sack.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Casting Become Immense using delve, making this a 7/9 and then attacking and casting Become Immense from the grave since his power is now 7 for free turning him into a 13/15 is a fun cheap combo.

Also a tremendous card, just the thing for me.

Technically speaking, this card has a higher ceiling than even snapcaster (reusable and free). The floor, however, is absolutely abysmal.
Can’t wait to see if burn decks and jeskai decks (ascendancy works sooo well with this) adapt this dude.

Less than or equal.
Default power also casts Ancestral Vision, Living End, Wheel of Fate, and Restore Balance, too, doesn't it?
Turn 1: Faithless Looting pitching Ancestral Vision + w/e.
Turn 2: Cast Dreadhorde Arcanist.
Turn 3: Attack and draw 3 cards?

We can do worse than that.
1. Faithless looting, pitch Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Living End
2. Dreadhorde Arcanist
3. Attack, Living End, Turn 3 Ulamog.
And here I was just thinking about recasting Expedite on Zada to draw even more cards. I need to dream big more.
