C'thulhu world confirmed, complete with new 'Walker.
Yep, just spoiled:
Emrakul, Planeswalker Extraordinaire (8)
Starting Loyalty 8
+4 Exile up to 10 target permanents.
-2 Gain control of target opponent's library, then draw 14 cards.
-8 Win the next 10 sanctioned Magic: The Gathering events you sign up for.
Annihilator 12
This is so absurd I hope they print it in an Un-set sometime at some clearly bogus, rarity like mega-mythic. Well done.
Bolas stealing their sparks makes more sense to me.
He promised to Ral, Vraska, Domri, Dovin, and Kaya positions of power over their guilds. It would make sense that Bolas would play the "guess you won't be needing this anymore" card and steal their sparks, trapping them permanently on Ravnica as legendary creatures.
And then, of course, there's the fact that he plans to lure the Gatewatch to Ravnica too, probably to steal their sparks also.
I am a bit confused about where the Immortal Sun and the Eternal army come into his plan, but whatever.
Immortal Sun: Otherwise, they might figure out what's happening and escape. This way, they figure out what's happening, they're still stuck on Ravnica.
Not sure what the Eternals are for though.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Yeah I mean, it is the same thing as Emrakul in Shadows Over Innistrad. The obvious and predictable message they gave was what actually happened. But I think I like the way this next set is being presented. I mean, maybe we can expect some planeswalkers that transform to legendary creatures when they die, or some sort of peculiar planeswalker hate cards. If a planeswalker dies in the lore, than everything is great. It has to happen sometime. I mean, who cares about Gideon dying or something?

If the assumption is correct that every walker gets their spark taken and becomes depowered, they are going to have to deal with Nicol Bolas's personal army of eternals and are more likely to die in their spark-less state.
I don’t think any of the candles represent Bolas. He’s blowing out those candles and we hear him breathing. So I think the number of snuffed candles is the number of deaths and/or sparks lost, while the remaining candle will be the one who stops Bolas at the end.
It would also be funny if the thing Verhey and others have hinted at as shocking the community turns out to be a set with gigatons of planeswalkers.

I'd caution I wouldn't take this too literally. One of those windows is Koth, why would he be on Ravnica again, other than "Everyone is here!"

i dunno i guess i interpreted things differently. the system that ral zarek designed is supposed to both send out a signal drawing walkers to ravnica, and track when each arrives. so i just assumed the candles being snuffed out was supposed to symbolized that the stage is set with everyone gathered, and all thats needed to start the show was bolas himself arriving.

36 is what...5 MonoColor, 10 Color Pairs, 10 Color Trios, 5 Color Quartets and 1 Five Color or Colorless Walker. Seems a bit ambitious though.
5 Mono Color, 10 Color Pairs, 10 Color Pairs or Trios, 10 Color Trios and 1 Colorless Works.
It could be done sure but that sounds ambitious. I pray to god they are not all goddamn humans if we get new walkers. No more Human Walkers. I know Fantasy stories tend to be biased too Humans but at least most franchises can point to some classic Fantasy Races. We have one Elf, one Vampire, one Goblin, One Merfolk, etc no Dwarves, Gnomes, etc and Two Dragons.
Lends credence to a lot of Sparks being lost at least temporarily so some will just be Creatures. The Gatewatch all have Flip Walkers, Bolas, Teferi, Jaya, Karn and Narset all have creature cards. I am not sure if Narset is in the Character List. Am I missing anyone with a creature card? Now most of those creature cards are Garbage. Some of the flips see play especially Jace. Narset is in Commander. Teferi in Commander. But ignoring color overlap issues if you gave all 10 of them actual Walkers, you could put in plenty of Legendary Creatures. Also seems weird anyone not rotating who got a Walker in the prior Ravnica Sets would get a New One. But Bolas taking his grunts Sparks and leaving sparks in the hands of his enemies just seems dumb.
The official teaser didn't do anything for me. We already know it's a showdown between Bolas, his minions, and the good guys. Heavy-handed symbolism doesn't cut it, and I found it very uninteresting.
The prof's reaction video was priceless, though, so thank you WOTC for giving a reason for that to exist.
Not a massive surprise, but did anyone notice Gideon has the Blackblade in his window? And the break that lets the wind in to snuff out the candles is right through his chest...

Yeah I still think Theros Block and Mirrodin/New Phyrexia had the best trailers. Content wise even if the animation was not great.
This though doesn't require a reaction, its not epic at all. At best its a teaser.
So this is pretty obvious, right? Candles are sparks. Bolas is the last candle, because of the horns around it. Jace is the candle on the top.
I could 32 candles total, but I am sure I am missing some. 4 seems the most likely number, bringing them to the same as the number of planeswalker windows. So, Bolas is taking everyone's spark.
So nothing that we know has changed.
However, there is another interpretation. Given that there is one candle on top, and the candelabra appears symmetric, that would imply 33 or 35 candles. Then, Bolas is not included, implying 35 candles for everyone else. Hence, only one planeswalker keeps their spark and lives.
This planeswalker has to be chandra. So literally every other planeswalker dies/gets stuck on ravnica. So this seems unlikely.
Well technically we know Chandra and Ajani live thanks to Chandra's Comic and still have Sparks. Tibalt I think is making an appearance as well. So any spark loss would be temporary I guess. Now Chandra implies thinks went poorly on Ravnica but...I doubt the death count will be all that high.

Ral modified Project Lightning Bug to function as a planeswalker beacon, depending on the details of that, it could be as simple as him seeing the batsignal and wondering what the heck is going on. He pops in to see what's happening and gets trapped because Bolas brought along the Immortal Sun. There really doesn't need to be a greater explanation than that.
Planeswalker in each booster? Or a card mentioning planeswalkers in each booster? The second works for all rarities and is possible with modern printing technology. Maybe three cards in each booster either being a planeswalker or mentioning them. Limited will be weird in that case tho. But I really have issues figuring out what else this whole ordeal is supposed to be. I don't think the Kamigawa treatment of planeswalkers is going to work out at all.
This is so absurd I hope they print it in an Un-set sometime at some clearly bogus, rarity like mega-mythic. Well done.
