Pretty sure this means we are getting a WB card with both Liliana and Gideon types. Rosewater has mentioned they will eventually touch this design space and a "planeswalker war" seems like a good place to do it.
Yeah, I think Jaya's going out with a blaze of glory. A dignified end to her story, taking many enemies down with her. Unfortunately, Blaze of Glory already has a card. Maybe a card named something like Jaya's Final Blaze?
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
In an interview with Gavin on Tolaria Community College, he let slip that there was something in 'War of the Spark' I think regarding merfolk. That supports the name theory

What theory is that? Also, can you link to the interview?
The storyline and set will revolve around the fight between the Gatewatch and Nicol Bolas. The fight turns into an all-out planeswalker war. Dozens of powerful planeswalkers, from many disparate realities, unite against the elder dragon, who has claimed dominion over Ravnica and is perilously close to completing the spell that will grant him godhood. As they fight alongside the Gatewatch — led by Chandra Nalaar, Jace Beleren, and Gideon Jura — against Bolas and his relentless army of Eternals, nothing less than the fate of the multiverse is at stake.[10] Little do the Gatewatch suspect that Bolas has not only accounted for their interference, but he is practically relying on it.[11]
I think that basically confirms that this is a Planeswalkers Matter set. I hope we don't get the lame, useless Planeswalker Deck walkers, but pushed walkers that really emphasize how much more powerful Planeswalkers are than regular mages. Naturally there'd need to be 'Walker hosers and plenty of them, but I don't see that as a problem.
How many planeswalkers can they realistically print in one set? Are we even expecting them to print more than 3 or 4?
A lot. There are 13 walkers who are current or former members, or allied to, the Gatewatch. It actually wouldn't be all that unrealistic for WotC to guarantee a Walker in every pack.

Please, no. Please. I will admit my bias upfront here; I have never been excited for Walkers as a permanent type. They always seem super gimmicky to me.
That fact known, I feel having that many Walkers seems like a massive overcommittment where I can only see it being underwhelming or warping some format (or another). I know design tries to avoid such things but their track record on "the mechanic sweet spot" hasn't been the greatest.
Personally, I would not expect a walker in every pack as none of the "X in every pack" gimmicks (DFC, legends, timeshifted) has guaranteed a rare, much less a mythic rare.
What I would expect, however, are walkers at rare instead of mythic. That shift would allow wizards to print over a dozen walkers (including a few key cards at mythic) in one set.

Haven’t they mentioned in the past that they were looking at or had looked at printing Planeswalkers at Rare again?
What are the chances we get some completely new Planeswalkers in the set? The description mentioned dozens of them coming to Ravnica to fight Bolas.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Wizards treats this set as "planeswalker futuresight", giving us a look at a few walkers from planes we haven't seen yet to get us speculating.
I wouldn't expect more than one cycle of "new guys", though. There are plenty of printed faces (ugin, Garruk, Ajani, Tamiyo, Jaya, Teferi, Vivien, Tezzeret, Samut, main gate watch, etc) that wizards can call upon.

So Bolas's plan is to become a God?

There is a new one on the cover of the Ravnica novel that has yet to be named.
I am sure we will see some no names. Story needs cannon fodder and its not like WOTC has the balls to kill very many important characters. Jaya is probably dead but beyond that, I don't see too many heroes dying.

Maybe most of the planeswalker Decks walkers could be duo walkers (like Liliana and Gideon, Chandra and Jace, etc)

That was a good story arc.
Sadly they didnt confirm If he could planeswalk in his godhold form. Would be nice If wizards confirmed it cause a Theros god that could planeswalk was like 80% of a oldwalker (a strong One)

Hard to tell. Kiora stated that Thassa’s bident was much less powerful away from Theros. Still powerful but like 50% of max power.

maybe they will do planeswalker split cards! limit it to like 2 abilities and that could plausibly fit on a card alright.
That's not a bad idea and pretty creative. They could have a walker from each side (Gatewatch vs Bolaswatch) with abilities that either compliment or contrast each other. The only problem is that there needs to be a mechanic, either flavor or storywise that would make sense for players to have access (be aided by) planeswalkers on opposing sides.

With that said, mtg has gods. Bolas was directing a bunch of them not long ago.
Bolas would never settle for "god"

anywho i was curious about the book walker mentioned above, and here is the cover art for anyone interested:

They wanted the mythic edition to be drafted (was One of the points of the product) each player had One seeded pack to draft with a walker.
