I really like the design on this. Since the haste option is usually better, they gave the +1/+1 option greater incentive with the activated ability to make the choices a bit closer.
The activated ability seems like a good answer to the afterlife tokens that will definitely be running loose, especially with Teysa Karlov being a thing. It's a bit underwhelming for a mythic but it's definitely a card I'd first pick no questions asked.

Haste is a nightmare for control. He races in the mirror or comes down bigger if your opponent chose haste. He eats tokens that could block him from afterlife.
Whatever happened to Hellkites being the bigger, badder dragons? Now it just seems like a synonym.
I love the art, but I can't really see this guy going places outside of limited. Sad really, monored dragons could have potential, but this doesn't contribute much to the concept.

Hellkite has just been a fancy word for dragon for a long time now. The first two, Crimson Hellkite and Firestorm Hellkite, fit the "bigger, badder" bill, but the third, Shivan Hellkite, is the same size as plain old Shivan Dragon, except with 1 more CMC and a more flexible ability.
it's either a quick 4 damage when you need it or an interesting mana sink when you need it. Definitely not the best 5 cmc dragon we've seen but it creates some interesting choices. I like it
So I can choose between a more aggressively costed Volcanic Dragon or a cheaper to cast but more expensive to burn things Shivan Hellkite...Well at least I have a new dragon to collect. A shame it's a mythic and will probably be sought after in standard so that will cost me more to get than it should :/
Somebody pointed out on Twitter that this dragon is wearing a hat (it's a skull, but it's still a hat), which automatically makes this the best dragon ever printed.

I like it but it does not feel like a Mythic. It is not interesting or unique enough. This feels like a mythic solely because they wanted to not have it be common in draft.
