Feels kinda worse then Mounstrous in some ways because Mounstrous doesn't care if it had counters in the first place.
Adapt's advantage over Mountrous is that can be reused if you removed counters from the creature. So will need to see if Simic have strong ways to remove the counters
Adapt is alright, with how +1/+1 mechanic have been so common I wasn't expecting anything too interesting. Now if we get something that lets you eat counters off creatures so you can repeat Adapt.
Tithe Taker ability also nerf these guys.

These example cards are pretty bad, so I hope we get a LOT of support for the mechanic. Using the counters as a resource for ability activations means you can Adapt multiple times, which is neat if we do get some... counter...outlets? The one thing this mechanic needs the most, though, is some cards that aren't terribly costed. Otherwise, this is just conna be Scavenge 2.0 without the benefit of a possible Varolz effect to make the mechanic affordable.
Yikes, from first glance these mechanics do not feel very inspired at all. Alternate cost based on opponent losing life (which I'm pretty sure was almost verbatim from the latest GDS), pretty bland dies-trigger keyworded, and now basically copy-pasted Monstrosity? And didn't someone say at least one RNA guild will have a returning mechanic? I'm pretty unimpressed with the concepts so far. Here's hoping some of them end up being pleasant surprises like Mentor.
What is happening to Ravnica? All these mechanics are so boring and way too simple. What happened to mechanics like Haunt, Cipher, Overload, Scavange etc from the other Ravnica sets? Are Wizards really so worried that they are over complicating things?
Ugh, I was afraid of this. Meld would have been so much more entertaining and on-theme. Everybody would have gotten to build their own Krasises (Krasi? IDK what the plural would be) over the course of the game.

Ravnica's complicated mechanics had more misses than hits. Dredge is a massive competitive balance headache, haunt was narrow and actually rather confusing, forecast was counterproductive and wildly unpopular, overload didn't have much more design space than haunt, cipher was difficult to balance correctly, graft was hard to use properly, and scavenge didn't make waves. Of those, some might be able to be reworked and come back, but it's no surprise that Wizards is playing it safe after so many "interesting" mechanics from Ravnica sets blew up in their faces.
I'm indiferent towards it. Something like meld would be cooler tough. Like sacrificing another creature to put counter on another, like fusing them. Just to make it more simple compared to Meld. Instead we got a retrain of Mounstrous. I like Mounstrous and thats why im indiferent towards it. Jsut wished something more creative for Simic.
And since Zegana is a rare, that means that another character too ker place as guildmaster? Probably someone that was part of the group that was preparing for war. Hopefully isn't a boring looking character like Izoni or Etrata.

The short answer is yes, they are worried about overcomplication.
Haunt and Cipher were pretty bad too, but for reasons other than complexity. Scavenge was famously overcosted (just like Adapt seems to be) and really wasn't any less simple than Adapt. Overload was cool, but had very small design space, as is the problem with a lot of cool mechanics.
Their priority in this block is to minimize complexity and find the right level of synergy, and that works a lot better when the individual keywords are simple, even if that does make them boring af.
I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic that the actual card designs will carry the set's wow factor.
Zegana's text box reads like it belongs to the Troll speaker, especially because of the trample. But I guess original Zegana was big as well.
Original Zegana was a printed 1/1 but technically was always the biggest creature you controlled when you played her so she's always been something of a beater. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they intended to make a card for Trifon (I think) and then when the story got changed to have Zegana get her ouster and become "just" a Speaker, they put her on a similar card design.
So with Zegana at rare, that could mean the mythic legend is the new guildmaster. There is an art for the booster packs featuring an elf that holds not just a vial with the Simic symbol, but she also holds a trident. The trident looks exactly like the one Zegana sported in her RtR art. So maybe Zegana stepped down or there was a vote of no confidence or a take over. Either way, my bet is that it'll be that elf that's the guildmaster now.

That sounds spot-on. I think the Prime Speaker is always promoted from within the ranks of the seven Zonot Speakers; do we know of an Elf woman who was Speaker last time around?
4 mana for ONE, I say ONE +1/+1 counter. That you can do ONCE. What are they smoking at WotC?

Edit: I guess it kinda helps cards like Simic Ascendancy but other than that, it seems very underdeveloped and lazy design.

Standard - Some kind of control
Modern - UB Mill (casual)
EDH - Meren's Grave Shenanigans
All of them, except Drunken Kitchen Table Jank.

All of these mechanics are flat out stupid, as they are so blatantly blank.
Its not even remotely new in these mechanics, incredible disappointing.

Two of the five mechanics start with A. Here's hoping we get a four-of-a-kind with Gruul and Azorius!
