So Emergency Powers is Dovin Baan calling Bolas to come to Ravnica? Spicy.
As far as the mechanic goes, it feels Azorius-y. I guess it's only on instants? IF they put it on sorceries I'd think they have to increase the cost of those sorceries to make it not broken.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
Well, that's one way to make sure WU-based controls don't get out of hand. A mechanic that rewards you for casting during your own turn isn't exactly something control would jump at.
Interestingly enough, the mechanic is forced to only appear on Instants (and cards with Flash, though I doubt we will get many).
Kinda reminds me of the Fated Cycle somewhat from Born of the God. Really hard to tell what will be done with Addendum.
I wonder if one reason Isperia was killed was she figured out the Bolas plot, pretty sure thats what Sphinx's Insight is meant to be taken.

Isn´t Addendum really bad as it limits your playstyle? Instants are nice to cast to disrupt your enemy but suddenly you have to cast it in the right phase to get an extra effect.
On the other hand it might be like the Riot mechanic in the sense that you play cards with Addendum. depening on how the battlefield looks like. Is it better to interrupt the opponent in his turn or should you wait until your own main phase and get an extra effect?
yeah but... what part of Emergency Powers is white?
Cheat in permanent is not really monowhite, but it's WU - Tezzeret, Artifice Master and old Show and Tell effects notwithstanding. White also gets a hand in the blue space of reset stuff, such as in Worldpurge.
Addendum is boring and restrictive. Balancing them so that casting it on your turn versus an opponent's are both viable options is going to be hell.
They even made it so that it says "your main phase", rather than say "your turn", so they can't make a cool combat trick spell or counterspell with the keyword.
All the keywords in this set are frightfully simple. I miss detain and evolve.
EDIT: Is Divination + 2 life worth 4 mana? Casting it on the opponent's end step for 4 is great because it lets you keep mana up for Cancel then refill your hand if the opportunity doesn't arise. 2 life isn't really worth the extra mana on a sorcery for me. Something that created an actual advantage, like tapping a creature or creating a 1/1 Soldier would make me at least consider casting it on my turn.
Wait, i think i´m misunderstanding Addendum. If i cast a card in my main phase, Addendum triggers and only that part will trigger not the whole card?
I believe what he was trying to say in the article was that there are some Addendum card with replacement effects and some with add-on effects. Unfortunately he references the use of the word "instead" which does not show up in the example cards. This makes things clear as mud but since it is introduced as an ability word, we can deduce that "Addendum" in and of itself does not have any rules impact.
My question is when the additional effects happen. Does the permanent for Emergency Powers's Addendum come from your initial hand or your new hand after reshuffle?

You perform the effects of spells in the order listed, so you can only choose a card from the cards in your hand after you've reset hands.

Yeah reading the article about the mechanic made me confused i guess.
"Read each addendum card carefully so you know exactly how each one works. The word "instead" in the addendum ability indicates a self-replacement effect, meaning you won't get the base effect, just the upgraded one."
To me that sounds like it´s not both things on a card that you do if you use the mechanic even though there´s no mention of "instead" anywhere
My question is when the additional effects happen. Does the permanent for Emergency Powers's Addendum come from your initial hand or your new hand after reshuffle?
You perform the steps on the card in order so you will shuffle up and then get a choose a card from your new hand to put onto the battlefield.
An Instant Timing Timetwister is one of the best things I have seen in a long time. Yes, 7 mana is a lot but the possibility of getting something for free as well as being able to hold up mana so that you get the first play with the new hand is something I am excited to play with.

Does that mean that the location of the Addendum text could vary depending on what order it was supposed to happen relative to the other part{s) of the spell?

In theory, but in order to maintain a standard templating, they'd probably instead say:
"Do N. Addendum - If you cast this spell during your main phase, instead do M, then do N."

I wondered the same thing for that card. Can you stack these effects to drop your permanent first and then shuffle/draw?
It's not an either-or. Addendum literally means addition. So you're rewarded with the added effect if you play it on your main phase versus on your other phases or during an opponent's turn.
Think of it as a kicker effect tacked on without paying the kicker cost that's awarded during your main phase.
