Gruul's mechanic is riot, which is similar to unleash and fabricate. (I, personally, like it a lot - it's a potentially very subtle and thinky choice ironically for the Gruul)
I completely agree. This is a great design in my opinion. Very Gruul oriented and makes for interesting gameplay. Very well done WOTC. I think Gruul would be one of the harder guilds to invent a mechanic for.
I like Riot, feels Gruul and has a lot of synergy with the other guild mechanics. As void_nothing can lead to some cool choice of if you want an extra point of power or you want a haste creature.

Riot should be *very* nice. A 3/3 for 3 with trample *and* your choice of a +1/+1 counter or haste, not to mention the bonus of granting hexproof both to the creature and yourself on your turn? That is a *lot* of value.
Gruul Spellbreaker is awesome. Jesus. 3/3 Haste or a 4/4 with Hexproof to boot just for the killshots and to avoid being Settle'd. Best mechanic spoiled so far. It feels like a better unleash to be honest.
At first, it seems very simple but I actually like that you get to choose depending on if you are falling behind or have the advantage of the battlefield. Do you need bigger creatures or do you rather want to attack fast?

From the article it looks like we get a creature or two with Riot twice (or away to give all your creatures Riot so they stack), which means you could put 2 counters on the creature, double haste or haste and a counter.

Gruul Spellbreaker might be just a little pushed. I absolutely love the design of riot - it's simple but elegant and works perfectly for Gruul. The Spellbreaker is an easy first pick in Limited and will probably see play in multiple Constructed formats.

Could just be clarification for the kitchen tablers using cards like panharmonicon. Getting a different choice twice probably isn't intuitive so it's worth pointing out that you can give it a counter and haste if you trigger riot twice.
I hope you're right though. Something similar to the 4 cmc explore enchantment from ixalan is very probable. Would be an idea card to show territorial unrest as well to tell the story, where those are focused on individual creatures.
Not sure why the cast beast is rioting as opposed to just being overly aggressive because cat beast. Flavor fail but the mechanic is awesome.
Will play sooooo well with mentor, potentially adapt, and more. Lots of counter support through most of standard right now.

It's not a triggered ability, it's just a choice you make as it enters like you do with clone effects. The way it was phrased it sounded more like there might be a card that gives all your creatures or maybe the next creature you cast Riot.
Riot is... reaaaaaaly dependent on which card it is on. These two cards are ridiculously pushed even without Riot, or rather, if the common guy simply had 4/4 instead of the option it'd be a 4cc 4/4 trample guy with a mana sink boost. Compare to vanila G3 4/3 green guy from GRN. The new guy is practically a rare in comparison.
So you could design a lot of completely unplayable cards with Riot. They shown us rather pushed ones, IMO.

The mechanic says "This creature" so i doubt it but i would love to see an instant / sorcery give Riot
It's a bit baffling to me how so many people conflate mechanics with the cards they're on. Had the first examples of riot been on underwhelming and overcosted cards like with adapt, the reactions would be MUCH different.
Riot isn't even particularly interesting. It's literally a minor change on unleash, less of a change than spectacle is on bloodthirst. And spectacle is already kinda bland.
Like, I'm not even trying to throw shade at wizards here. I guess I kinda understand the reason of giving the guilds simpler mechanics? Objectively it makes little sense to create deep and complex mechancis that are only applicable for a subset of one fifth of a set. (Even if subjectively I still feel cheated on because I'm spoiled from original Ravnica.) Rather, I find it very confusing how people are unable to separate mechanics from individual card designs.
