OK it's pretty clear there are some Future Sight newbies here.
Between thinking it's a good card to pass to an opponent with Zedruu the Greathearted and calling it slow, just means these peeps have no idea of the sort of card advantage that can be generated from a card like this.
Not being able to play the cards in your hand, is not going to be much of a downside when you are looking to play the cards from the top of your library anyway.
It's mainly when you hit your second land on top for the turn that your draw comes to a halt. That's why it's great to have shuffle effects.
Rather than comparing this with futuresight, I am looking at Recycle/Null profusion.
With that comparison, this costs two less but let's you keeps one card instead of two cards. This card also effectively forces you to rummage each turn (the top card of your deck is drawn and a new top card can be played), keeping you from getting trapped with unplayable cards. Finally, you can sacrifice this card if you get trapped to refill your hand with everything you rummaged away.
Viewed in that way, this card seems pretty exceptional... in the right deck.
Yeah, seems to combo with lantern effects and storm-enablers (fast mana, low-cost cantrips, etc). Then again, cantrips no longer are truly cantrips with this out (You can't play the card you draw.) Still, beautifully weird.
Really cool card. I hate how Future Sight reveals the top card of your library to opponents, but the downside on this is super harsh and not worth the reduction in cost IMO. Still, I might give it a whirl. Between cards like Penance and Pyxis of Pandemonium, my decks seldom lack ways to manipulate the top card of my library, so maybe this won't be as painful as I imagine.

What a terrible card and waste of design space. We already have Future Sight, and this card is infinitely worse. I get that jank is a big part of red’s color pie, but the flavor seems very un-red and this card ia just straight unplayable. Very disappointing.
A lot of you are getting the #shenanigans that will happen with this. The hand clause isn't crippling since you can be at Hellbent to kick off the festivities.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Wondering how this can really be utilized? What do you do w/ the cards in your hand? Maybe get them out via Madness or have discard outlets to hearken back to Hellbent? Might make an attempt at a Hellbent deck w/ a little madness in it w/ this interesting enchantment. The only snag I see is 2-lands in a row (or seeing the second land that turn). If that's case, will need a black self-mill option.
It'd be three lands, though - the first land would actually be your draw for the turn.
On top of that, multiple copies of this would effectively also be lands, as there's no real good reason you would ever want two of these in play at the same time. Still, looks like it could be fun in the right build, if you have enough manipulation.
I'm thinking about this in a Temur edh deck that already plays Explore effects to burn through extra lands and rummages/brainstorms to mess with the top of your library. This sounds like a lot of fun.

I read this and I had an immediate long-time-ago flashback. Ice Age just came out. "Necropotence?! Who the hell would use this? You don't even draw cards anymore? You don't even get one card a turn for free, you even have to pay life just to get your first card? You don't even get it right away? On top of all that you can't even discard things to get reanimated? Unplayable!".
Makes me want to try at least 2 in my modern storm and cram my Faithless Looting back in the deck to flash them back to continue the chain. Seems SUPER spicy.

It's always nice when the big, dumb, red rare of the set is something actually new and/or interesting, instead of yet another "lol random!" effect. I might actually play this in Malfegor, which is more than I can say about, for example, Guild Feud or Whims of the Fates.

Why do you have to do anything with the cards in your hand? Each turn, you'll probably end up drawing a land. Figure you play this on T4, you'll see 10 cards, 11 by the time you untap. This is one, 4 lands make four, probably 2 1 drops, and 2 drops (you want a very low curve to utilize this). That's 9 out of 11 cards. At the most, you're only going to have 2-3 cards in hand at this point ideally. Given the upside, that's a pretty low number of resources you're trying to maximize.
I'm starting to wonder if Rakdos is getting "Hellbent" (or at least something that's closer to it than it is to Unleash) back... sure, the name, art, flavor text of the card screams Izzet, but there's no Izzet watermark and a lot of the mono-color cards synergize between guilds... (well, even Surveil synergizes with both Izzet and Golgari).
Maybe. Maybe they gave a new name to "heckbent", the hellbent-variant that appeared in AMK-block, and called it a day for the Rakfos mechanic. Or maybe they just put this in here, because it's insane with jump start - even giving you an outlet for all the hand cards you no longer can play. I think everything is still open for Rakdos. Especially since the synergy between the two sets doesn't need to be all that pronounced as the Guild pentuple are drafted separately from each other.

Pretty much until you hit two lands. The first land you hit, you play as your land drop for the turn.
As mentioned above, you can also use fetches to trigger a shuffle when you might be otherwise locked up.
Also works nicely with the old Lantern buddies, Pyxis of Pandemonium and Codex Shredder (I suspect standard combo with this is why they printed Wand of Vertebrae). Don't like your top card? Mill it away.
