I'm honestly really glad this is mythic. Mythics shouldn't be competitive all star cards. If all the mythic slots in this set are filled with big, splashy fun spells that aren't going to take over standard and that kind of power is instead at rare and below then I'll call that a big win.

Very disappointed selesnya is about soldiers this time around. Saprolings are way cooler... At least I hope we have different soldier tokens showing different races like humans, elves, centaurs, dryads and even wolves. A bunch of human soldiers doesn't give the right Selesnya feeling imo.

I think it fits the flavor though, the city is basically going to war and Selesnya is showing that they don't only have saprolings that are going to get run over by the organized opposing party as a statement. As funny as it would be to see Saprolings behave liked trained soldiers, I don't think they can be trained like that (and the other option of wild growth rampaging Gruul likely does much better, so not too much of a statement if they tried to do that).
I think Selesnya would get their own soldier design token (especially since they have lifelink) and not use human ones to differentiate them from the Boros tokens, but as for variety I'm not too optimistic (but it can happen they've done it before).
This card only really outshines wastes if you have a bunch of creatures out. Most of the time its basically going to be a Scatter the Seeds. Overall you could argue Flurry of Wings is just as strong, considering its offensive and defensive potential.
I see this being another Aurelia's Fury, but with a much lower initial price.
Oh those 3, only secure is close to this. Scalability is extremely important to cards like this, and flurry sucked cause it only worked when someone was attacking with a bunch of creatures.
I don't think this card is amazing, but it's not as bad as flurry or as limited as scatter.
I'm still holding out for Chord of Calling. I want that card reprinted so badly.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
so the lifelink soldier is the default elesnya 1/1 token?
Remember: The tokens of a color and same size are often shared e. g. the default white 2/2 token was a Knight with vigilance in RTR. We've already seen one of these tokens on another card and if it's ion white, then it's not just in Selesnya, but also on unassociated white cards and Boros; Boros being the one that can grow the tokens (and the life gain) with mentor. I suspect, mentor is the primary reason the 1/1 token gets to be the one that's a little more exciting this time around by getting to put some french to the vanilla.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
will this set be that bad, that such a card is good enough for being a mythic ? you need a specific situation for that to be good... a heavy board... but than this would just be a win more card... if your board is already heavy and u cant win, you probably wont with this card too. and when you have an empty board secure the wastes is better (IMO)
but yea, seems like wizards is making this a weak low level casual targeted set... wizards wants to kill standard it seems
Wow. You want all the mythics to be wallet-draining superstars? And besides, have you looked at any other set in the existence of Magic? There is not a single set that doesn't feature a weak mythic. Remember Skaab Ruinator? That one's from one of the most powerful standard sets of all time. How about Nissa Revane, Chandra Ablaze, Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet, Lorthos the Tidemaker? All from Zendikar. Not exactly a weak set either.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
Yeah, this is going straight into my Naya deck. Instant horde generator? Yes please.
Also, I think an overlooked draw of these soldier tokens is the fact that they have lifelink. Even if you send them crashing against a wall of your opponent's defenders and only a few actually get through to deal damage - or if they try the same against you - you're most likely looking at a crapton of life gain from it. Especially if you're playing to Selesnya's strengths and putting out a bunch of stuff that buffs all your creatures.

Problem with cards like this is it requires a good board state to make it a good card. Scalability is nice, but you also need recoverability. If on turn 4 you get board wiped, turn 5 you try and drop this for 5 mana and get two tokens, you lose. Secure at that point would have given you twice as many tokens, or Scatter one more.
This is a good bulk mythic to play with in a table-top game. I will grab some of these. It just is an awkward card because it requires a strong board state to make it a good card. I think this card could have cost 1 less easily, and still not leave it being overpowered at all.
If I already have a strong board state, I wouldn't want to convoke to play this. I would rather play Flurry of Wings, double my army, and still attack on the same turn. Plus Flurry gives me defensive options if my opponent swings at me.
I think people are vastly underrating this card. The fact that it has convoke and is instant speed is relevant. It gets around Chainwhirler because of its instant speed and could become super gross is something like Intangible Virtue gets reprinted
To those wishing for more unique tokens from that spell it probably started with unique ones then WotC started putting soldiers in the sets then they just standardize the tokens to avoid confusion on which soldiers do what.
Multiple people in this thread mentioned putting this in their Trostani deck. Can someone explain to me what the appeal of this card is in Trostani? I understand Trostani is a token deck but I though you'd rather want large token that scale better with the populate and life gain abilities.
Convoke makes all the difference. As long as I have at least two creatures, this is at least as good as Secure the Wastes, technically better since the creatures do have lifelink. Since it has convoke, any token Commander (Convoke cards tend to find a way into Trostani, Ghave, Marath, Rith, Rhys, Derevi, and other GWx token decks very quickly. Only certain "neo-affinity" cards do better, and convoke is arguably a form of that.) will want it.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
How good is this in a Bant control deck? Seems good as a finisher in control builds even without convoke. EOT cast this, next combat phase swing with 7-10 1/1’s w/ lifelink? Seems like a great finisher to me.

Combo potential, and lots of it. At instant speed.
Goes perfectly with a lot of Trostani stuff like Dictate of Heliod, Dictate of Karametra, Collective Blessing, Doubling Season, etc. etc.

Nope--Tocatli Honor Guard. Sure, the red player still gets a 3/3 first strike but there many ways to deal with that, starting with Baffling End and Seal Away.
Unless the tokens are pirate tokens red should have a easy time dealing with those...
