This is crazy good. This and abrupt decay give bg decks so much control over what hits the battlefield in non rotating formats. Legacy is already a basics light format - maybe that'll change now.
In modern, hitting this off BBE in jund is just freaking brutal. Cleanly answers anything you can target. BGX decks get a big shot in the arm vs tron. Pop this off on a tron land or a resolved threat - noxious revival it back? Sultai could become a serious modern deck now because snapcaster and this is freaking gross.
Standard is going to have 4 of these flying around in 2-3 color BGX good stuff decks. Any kind of recursive or hexproof threat is going to be required in standard...between this and vraska's contempt that's a ton of walker and creature removal. Maybe karn/teferi prices will dip some? vine mare and carnage tyrant become crazy good in the format, especially in the mirror since black is losing Bontu's.
This just seems so incredibly pushed. Analogs has historically been 3 mana WB right (vindicate, anguished unmaking).
Obviously a very powerful card, but kind of an awkward name to get used to saying. We have path, push, bolt... now what, "I'm gonna trophy your Liliana"?
I'm going to Gild Your Lily.
Chisel? Plaster? Sculpt? Something to do with turning something to stone.
Pretty sure the "power vacuum" in the flavor text refers to the death of their guild leader.
I never really liked the look of RTR Isperia, so I'm not too sad about her being a goner, although I like Azorius as a guild.
I mean, the Azorius have alot of leaders and people magistrates and judges, Also sphinxes have always been in leadership positions in the guild. Yes, it is very familiar to what Isperia looked like in RTR but, i preffer wait to see a confirmation on a story article.
A good Isperia card was pretty much the only thing I cared about with this block. I knew they were gonna kill the leaders but I figured we could get new forms for everyone
Isnt Standard Red and Blue/White right now? BG sure as heck isnt a Modern powerhouse anymore. This is strong.
Powerhouse or not, instant speed destroy -ANY- permanent, including lands and 4CMC+ permanents, for 2 mana is absurd. I know (fair) BGx has problems in Modern, but such a card is a terrible mistake. I'm going out on a limp and say Deathrite levels of a mistake.

While obviously awesome, this does have some downsides. Against creatures, the most common removal target, it's much worse than Path: the land enters untapped, it costs two mana of two different colors, & it destroys rather exiles. It's worse than Abrupt Decay against counters & against nonland permanents CMC 3 or under. It's generally better than Beast Within if you can cast it.
Card is downright silly against no-basics decks in Legacy, though! Wow. That'll be brutal.

It is a Story Spotlight card though, I highly doubt that any random Sphinx Leader that isn't the Guildmaster getting petrified by Vraska would be worthy of a spotlight, but we'll see... also, RIP.
On the card itself. Well people we have the premium planeswalker removal spell for Standard right here everybody. I don't play nor really keep up with Standard, but I've heard walkers have been the menace recently, so I'm confident that this is the premier removal spell for them right here. Other than that I actually don't think it makes the cut, as creature removal in nonrotating formats have much better/cheaper choices and in those formats this is unlikely to even screw mana up, let alone be effective land destruction. In EDH though, well many people can tell you there many things worth Ghost Quartering on and this serves the similar function. And final disclaimer, the card is flexible enough that even the less inefficient parts are just additional options to the main function they serve in their respective formats, although I still don't think this has quite the impact on nonrotating formats because its strongest feature isn't very strong there either.
EDIT: Clarification just in case, since we'll partially running on hype - I'm not saying its useless, its sheer flexibility gives it great power, but I think that versatility would grant it staple sideboard status at best because it doesn't really excel at anything particular to be a mainboard staple. But hey I don't keep track of competitive formats actively, so take this opinion lightly. It will be total house in Standard though, for sure.
This... is a legitimate threat to Tron, right? It's maindeck hate with almost no opportunity cost. It always comes out before their third land. And if you draw it too late, it can take out Karn too.

The only saving grace is that jund and abzan are not power houses in modern right now, so it won't upset the balance too much. Still, jund will be happy. The ability to nick any CMC more than make up for the basic land vs abrupt decay.
I'm happy to own zero modern GB deck, that will save me a ton of money and give me trade fodder for my actual decks.

Unless the art direction was improbably off this is Azor, not Isperia.
And as far as 'making a political statement' coming home from wherever you are with the Azorius Founder as a lawn gnome is kinda... well, it is a statement.

People playing black in their decks already have access to Vraska's Contempt for planeswalkers. This card will simply allow those decks to drop from 4 copies to 2 then jam in a set of Assassin's Trophy. Allowing your opponent to get a free basic land is not too high a price to pay.
This card should also end any "answers aren't strong enough in Standard" arguments which arise from time to time.

RIP Magic Duels. Wizards will regret what they did to you.
Based off MaRo's article today, she's probably getting replaced by Planeswalker in Bolas' command.
