Aw man. Those seeded packs were a bad idea before. How will that be any different this time?
Basically, what happens is that people realize they'd rather have Seeded Pack [Guild] because that guild is better, so those packs go first to the people who arrive earliest. (Stores around where I live let people sign up for a particular guild).
Why would they do this? They're not genericizing the PR kits so that the guild is unknown, are they?
So now we know: The Golgari kits are going to be the hardest to get
Again, I assume they will be distributed randomly instead of letting people choose what guild they want. If a store does that then it's their problem if everyone wants the same guild.
Just watched the preprerelease and it seems the promo takes the rare slot in the seeded pack effecctively meaning one less rare in the pool. Thoughts?

One seeded booster pack: composed entirely of cards relevant to that player’s guild
1 randomized, date stamped foil promo card, drawn from any rare or mythic in the set
I can see how this feeds nicely into the whole flavour/player identity thing where you are supposed to pick your favourite guild and feel like you´re using the game to express yourself, but I´m really not a big fan of seeded packs.
The reason is that I feel that it increases variance between sealed pools, where the colours of your seeded pack matches up poorly against the remaining five packs plus promo, while the person next to you could happen to get most of their good stuff in the correct colors. You are basically asked to force two of your colors, and that´s not how you are supposed to play sealed. I know that I´m not being enough casual minded here, but still, it´s basically teaching players to do it wrong, and an increased variance between sealed pools does not make for a good event.
Opinions?
I understand where you're coming from, but you have 3 more packs then you would a normal draft. So that seeded pack doesn't really mean anything.I guess people passing packs allows you to see more of a variance in certain guilds though. Idk, I think it's fun and different.

This isn't draft, it is sealed. 6 packs is the standard for sealed.
By the way havrekjekset. The date stamped promo takes the rare slot in the guild pack so it is in the chosen colours but takes up one rare slot meaning you get one less rare in the box.

If the promo is any rare or mythic and placed in the rare slot of the seeded pack, isn't that the exact same amount of rares in the pool?
The promo takes up the rare slot of the seeded pack and is seeded aswell.
In previous prereleases you have gotten 6 packs plus one promo totalling 7 rares/mythics. This time you are getting 5 packs plus one seeded pack, and the promo is the rare of the seeded pack so you get a total of 6 rares/mythics.

Can someone link to video footage of people opening their kits? It seems strange to me that the reported promo distribution outright contradicts their stated press for this prerelease. They quite clearly said that the date stamped promo would be drawn from any rare or Mythic in the set, specifically differing from the previous line of their text talking about the guild booster contents being specifically limited to guild relevant cards.
How many seeded boosters have been witnessed / reported on? Are we sure it’s 100% promo-on-guild and hasn’t just been low sample size coincidence?
I’m not so torn about there only being 6 rares/mythics in pool rather than the usual prerelease 7. But if the only way to get foilpromo Trophy or Vraska is to take the Golgari kit ... people who have already chosen another guild kit under the impression that their odds of promo Trophy was equal no matter their guild kit selection ... would be understandably upset.
I mean I sure am glad now (if these reports are accurate) that when I was waffling between booking Golgari or Dimir, I booked myself a Golgari kit.

Also states you get 5 guilds of ravnica boosters. One seeded booster pack and that the seeded booster also inlcudes one semi randomized promo from the featured guild.
First part probably isn't that relevant to your question. But the second part from mtg's website stats taht the promo is from the chosen guild.

From the pre-prerelease, Graham seemed to say his Selesnya pack was very different. We'll have to see if you are guaranteed a guild locket, but it seems like all the cards in the pack are in your guild colours and you get a guildgate.
From this, you know going in that you are getting a rare or mythic and at least 3 uncommons in your guild, and mana fixing. If you are very lucky, the rest of your boosters help your guild choice. If you are moderately lucky, you are able to build a deck that shares one colour - which allows you to splash very easily since you already have mana fixing for your chosen guild.
If you are unlucky, your pool does not overlap with your seeded pack and you basically ended up one pack short in your pool.
I am not a fan of the seeded packs, but they are a lot of fun for new players. I was a new player last time we were in Ravnica, and I remember really liking that I could be guaranteed to play a graveyard deck.
From what I undersand the guildgates takes the spot of basic lands in the set helping the fixing along.

From how seeded packs were done last time we were on Ravnica (RTR block). There were a possible 8 rares, each had their own print run of cards with them. So each seeded pack that had Niv Mizzet, Dracogenius for example, had the same uncommons and commons. Of course I think they changed this with the later seeded packs for the likes of Theroes and Tarkir, in that the print runs weren't tied to the rare.
So my assumption is that the seeded packs will be similar. One rare/mythic from your guild. (My count is 7 possibilities for each guild, with the guild leader as the only possible mythics.) A guildgate for fixing. Then a mix of uncommons/commons from your guild, possibly with a limited number of set print runs.
Add stealing extra rares to the reasons I hate seeded packs
Except this is an unfortunate change from RTR, not a characteristic of guild packs in general. In RTR block you got the intro pack rare promo plus a seeded pack that contained an additional guild rare on top of your five regular boosters.

While that is true for RTR, this is actually what the changed it to with the Khans block prereleases. (The last time they did seeded packs in prereleases.) That was when they made the promo more random on what you got.
Wasn't sure, but after a double check on youtube of people opening prerelease kits, I was sure. Your promo in that block was the rare in your seeded pack.
So yeah, Wizards did this last time.

Promo cards can be on-guildmark monocolors (from the PPR, Adam Savidan pulled the Undergrowth Tutor as his dated card). Meaning it's probably 4 Multicolor rares and 2 of each mono color on-watermark as the pool (with the Mythic Legendary as the only Mythic option) of 'eight possible packs.'
This allows for parity to be kept (as people keep hounding on how Dimir has four on-watermark mythics) without making the seeded packs overly complex.
Meanwhile my only hope is that your Guildgate in the seeded pack matches your Guild Legend if you get one (I'd feel very put out if I pulled Etrata and got Lazav's Guildgate).
So everybody will want the Golgari pack (for the money card)
This seems crazy and a very bad way to do it.
Wasn't that always a problem with seeded packs? Some formats had one prerelease promo in a certain colour that was just a bomby mcbomb that the other packs didn't have, some formats had moneycards that blew the other cards ourt of the water. Those incentives to pick a guild is jsut too strong imo.
You can either pick the favoured guilds or if you want to play another you have to sacrifice quite an edge in power or value.

My lgs said today that the Prerelease packs will be distributed randomly, so no booking golgari ahead of time, which is good.
Wait, like actual random? Or simply randomize the order in which you pick? Because true random would kind of defeat the purpose of the seeded pack in the first place.

Depending on what the purpose is. If the purpose is to give people a choice in their allegiance, then yes that would defeat the purpose. If the purpose is just to have every player have a pool that slightly artificially leans towards one of the five guilds ... that suffices. The store I played Gatecrash at did that. I got Boros pool through no deliberate choice of my own.

That is very clearly the purpose. If they wanted people to lean towards a random guild, they would just give you six normal packs and let your figure it out yourself.
I understand that some guilds might be more popular than others, but handing out actual random packs to everyone seems like the worst possible solution. If a LGS doesn't want to do preregistration or a first-come-first-served thing, at least make a randomized list of all the players and let them choose based on the list.
Honestly though, I think people take this choose a guild thing way too seriously. They try to min-max their EV or whatever instead of picking the guild they actually want to play. Assassin's Trophy is going to be like a $10 soon. Don't pick Golgari just because you have a slightly increased chance to open it.
Selesnya's mono-green rare is the one I couldn't figure out as well when I was counting up for each guild.
So the possibilities are Pelt Hunter, Bounty of Might or Beast Whisperer. Oh, or Vivid Renewal I guess, but that feels like it would fit more into Golgari. Based on the flavor and art on those choices, I guess Bounty of Might makes the most sense for Selesnya.
So yeah, as your promo it seems the possibilities you can get are Guild Leader, Guild champion, split card, gold instant/sorcery, gold permanent (would have said creature, but Izzet had to be different and go for an enchantment), or one of the mono-colored rares for that guild. Which makes 7 possibilities. In previous sets, we have had 8 possibilities, but I have no idea which cards Wizards would throw in as the 8th possibility.

One option would be the second guild mythic, but that would mess too much with the usual 1:8 rare to mythic ratio. Otherwise, each guild would get an extra non-watermarked rare.
Actually, RTR had non-watermarked rares in its seeded packs. In RTR, excluding mythics and splits, Selesnya had 5 rares with watermarks, Golgari 6, Rakdos 6, Izzet 7, and Azorius 6. There were no watermarked selesnya monocolored rares and no black monocolored watermarked rares, and Izzet had two monocolored rares with watermarks. Each guild also had a fuse split card and guildleader, though that did still leave Selesnya short.

Don't count Mnemonic Betrayal, since it's a mythic. You're looking for Unmoored Ego. It's possible that Bounty of Might will be absorbed into Selesnya's seeded pack pool.
