Just checking, but it wouldn't count as your land drop for the turn, right? Because when it enters it is still a creature until the trigger resolves? (Which also implies it wouldn't trigger landfall or any "when a land enters the battlefield" ability)?
Edit: Seems it isn't a trigger, it's a replacement effect? Confusing
Its neat. I can dig it. I always feel like creatures this big need like trample or something because it feels ridiculous otherwise, but I can't complain. It's an interesting design and maybe I will finally throw together a Simic Sea Monsters deck.

Partially. You're casting it as a creature spell, but it only becomes a land as it enters the battlefield with slumber counters on it. (Of course, it's never a land if Solemnity is in play to stop it from entering the battlefield with counters on it.)
However, if it enters the battlefield with counters on it, it's a land as it enters the battlefield, so it will trigger landfall or similar abilities.

My playgroup has half-hardheartedly considered a house rule to automatically give all creatures trample if they have 8+ power strictly for flavor reasons.
But we've opted not to largely because we didn't want to consider the implications of that rule.
On topic: This card is all of my Simic dreams come true. It's amazing.
Hahaha, that art is wonderful. I love that there's a town on him, sucks to be them when he wakes up. Plus he's a giant rock lobster, and that will lead to a lot of falsetto singing when I sling this down.
This is the exact kind of card I love from these Commander products: a bit off the beaten path, kooky, flavorful. I'm not sure how I'm going to use this, but I'm damn sure going to.
Just so we're clear, the fact that it's not a creature while it has slumber counters on it means that you can tap it for mana the turn you cast it, right? (Assuming there's not some sort of Torpor Orb effect in play).
Sure, assuming you have something like Amulet of Vigor already in play.
These rare throwback legendary cards have been some of the most innovative, flavorful designs in the set. I wish they could've used some of the slots of the more boring rares to do more cards like this.

I collect Legendary cards, Planeswalkers, and Sagas.
Current count of different Legends: 1314
Current count of different Planeswalkers: 213
Current count of different Sagas: 44

I kind of wish it was better at protecting itself long term. Sure you can keep it a land, but I want to beat face with it. It's going to be hard sneaking this guy in for damage lol
I like this card quite a lot. The fact they played with another land creature is great, and since it's a "may" to remove counters you could leave it there for some time if you wanted to until you're ready for Arixmethes to be a creature. I've been waiting for this "character" for some time and while it isn't exactly what I thought it would be it's still a fun card.
What existing MtG lore is this card refering to (does it exist in flavor text, or would I need to have read the online stories)? Also, is this the Theros equivalent of Atlantis?

Call me crazy, but I find it hard to imagine an ISLAND-SIZED LOBSTER being sneaky
"I'll swing with my commander."
"I'll block with a Soldier token."
"...Slip Through Space? Resolve?"
"Uhh...um...kay..."

More or less. Arixmethes is covered in one of the Magic Stories from Battle for Zendikar, where Kiora stole Thassa's bident.
Honestly, being a "creature" that acts as explosive vegetation has some real applications in the 99 as well.
There are some "permanent matters" cards in green that encourage minimizing instant and sorcery cards that this card would go well with (primal surge, genesis wave, vizier of the menagerie, genesis hydra...)

I mean there are people living on his back and they don't even know it!
It would be neat if you could pay UG to put a Slumber counter back on it... like he dives down deep to avoid danger. Even 12/12s have to worry about a Tragic Slip!
Think of it as Explosive Vegetation in the command zone.

It wouldn't be very good. It would become a 0/0 land creature with whatever amount of +1/+1 counters the awaken ability would give it.

Above all else, I'm a Vorthos.
Or Kiora's Follower which is also much more flavorful^^
And...uh...okay.
Nothing to do with Enchantments, certainly. Would've made more sense in the Jund deck, but I doubt the colors would've lined up as it's a kraken.
