I like Tawnos getting a card. I hate the art (they could at least made an attempt to make it similar to his only previous appearance on the Vanguard card). The Vanguard better represents his personality, that was quite rational, troubled, and often unsure.
Instead we get a stupid Silas Renn cocky rip-off, and a sycophantic flavor text.
He also had hardly any red in him. UW would suit better.
For me, nice card, but Ludevic-level flavor disappointment.
Agrees. Cool card. Not very Tawnos.
Here's to hoping for an Ashnod somewhere in the other decks!:)

I would have expected Tawnos to be GU, seeing how much he drew inspiration from nature for his designs. But he still happens to combo quite well with his candelabra, and in colors that arguably need it more.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
For me, nice card, but Ludevic-level flavor disappointment.
So for you Tawnos, the apprentice of one of the best artificiers in the multiverse, being a card that improves your powerful artifact (even your candelabra of tawnos) is on the same level of Innistrad most renowned monster maker not making any monster but drawing cards?
I get you dislike the card but i think you are way overexaggerating
I agree with this assessment. Tawnos is good design IMO.
idk, the art looks rushed. Could be some random uncommon utility creature. The vanguard art is better for sure. Also I don't know a lot about Tawnos, but just from reading the wiki his colors and ability feel pretty off. They shouldn't do old characters if they can't do them justice.
Matt Steward did a great job on this card IMO. UR being the top colors for artifice is a good match for Tawnos IMO, but I don't care as much for or know as much about these really old Legends. Aside from the Kamigawa novel ones, which we haven't seen yet here.
Yeah, we know what are your preferences, Tiro. . And when you yourself admit that you basically do not care for anything that is blue and/or Kamigawa, and you do not know anything about Tawnos, maybe it would be wiser to refrain from commenting on how well the colors fit....
Otherwise, when you get your UR Choryu, somebody knowledgeable can say, because, well, Hidetsugu got him pretty well-done before his miserable life ended, red would be probably also a good fit for him
For me, nice card, but Ludevic-level flavor disappointment.

I *like* the card itself.
I hate the art, the flavor, and the fact he has red in his cost. It is not consistent with his book personality. In this, I compare him to Ludevic. Clearer now?

That was my point. Feldon, Mairsil, Titania were great...heck, even Jodah, who is completely unlike we speculated, can be explained. This fails almost on all levels.

Still convinced the guy on Beseech the Queen is wearing a Mitra-type hat. Wake up sheeple!
I'm so glad to see Tawnos. Partially because I just like him, mostly - because now eventual arriving of Ashnod becomes more likely (and Ashnod besides being wonderful character by herself has the potential to be the most unusual and unique artificer).
By the way, I don't think flavor is bad here. Young Tawnos certainly could be red - he was eager, enthusiastic and open-hearted, it suits him. Though I'd expect 'small harmless things doing amazing tricks' kind of theme for him. Copying abilities seems cool mechanically, but a bit stretched from the flavor standpoint.

This is a really interesting card. In the 99, the closest comparison is Kurkesh. Captain Kurk is more expensive and only hits activated abilities but doesn't need to tap and only costs one mana per activation. I'll probably try this in Breya because copying triggered abilities from cards such as Sharum and Sharding Sphinx sounds fun. For those not into Breya, this seems like a sweet UR commander - definitely my favorite of the deck.

I said I liked the card design and it being a past character, while being fair enough to admit limited knowledge. Respect that, and check yourself henny. An artificer legend being UR isn't all that farfetched regardless. When we finally see some Kamigawa legends, I'll gladly have that debate. Watch it be an if.
It does make you really break down this commander with Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient already being able to copy "activated" artifacts, at 1 mana less, and doesn't tap either. The difference between only being able to use once per turn, or multiple times, is a big deal.
So it comes down to how much more you can get out of "triggered" abilities, and wanting to get into blue for most likely more competitive disruption and draw.
Also cost two less than Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient.

To be fair, he can not only mimic Rings of Brighthearth, but also Strionic Resonator, that's a lot flexibility for a 2 drop commander.
