I'm going to say it's a bad idea for there to be any Arena-exclusive cards at all. Not because of power level but because of precedent. Paper magic is the core of the game and I don't think that the vast majority of the player base wants it any other way. Having digital-exclusive cards will feel like more and more of a step towards digital encroaching on more and more of the focus for magic. Yes. Magic shoukd have a good digital component. No, digital shouldn't start getting closer to being the main focus of the game.

These cards are awful. Even by the standards of bad cards, they're bad. The white 1 drop isn't bad as a combat trick, but the creatures are just horrible. 6 mana for a 1/4 that requires a whole turn to start producing value? Without a single keyword? Gimme a break. Also; why format cards with "only play this if you're under attack" instead of just making it an instant?
No the real guestion on Confront the Assault is why the hell does it cost 4W and have the attack restriction? It should either cost 4W with no restriction or have the restriction and cost 1WW. As it stands now, its a hella garbage version of Waylay.
And why are some of the cards themed from planes that aren’t even in Arena? Arena is Kaladesh forward, so why even have Innistrad and Tarkir artwork?

so do these actually exist outside of the tutorial? i'm going to assume not since i haven't heard a single thing about these from arena players
Yes, they exist outside of the tutorial. I skipped the tutorial and in the white starter deck you're given, these cards exist and can be played in Standard.
Digital and Paper formats featuring different cards is nothing new. Anyone remember how Aether Revolt Limited Booster Packs did not contain Masterpieces in Magic Online? That's how it starts.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
Oh who cares? These are terrible cards that no one would ever play with unless they had to. Most of the unique cards from planeswalker decks might as well be "online" only too, since you'll never seen them except if playing with the sealed decks. Now if they start printing an online only Legendary version of a Mox Sapphire then that might be something to raise an eyebrow over.
Well, nevermind. In any case, either they don't trust players to be be able to see that an instant speed token generator should be used on your opponent's turn as a response, or they're just being pedantic.
This is actually exactly the case. They are trying to design a "New Player Experience" (NPE). They want the situation to be such that there is no room for error; if you try to pass priority without blocking for example, they lecture you and tell you "block or you will lose next turn". IIRC, in one of the engagements you hold onto the "only cast during attack phase" instant for two turns before the game allows you to cast it; there is a HUGE amount of restrictions on the play of these cards in the NPE, because the tutorial is trying to teach the basic concepts of many things like evergreen keywords. You don't even get *introduced* to instants until the 4th of 5 tutorial matches...they are REALLLLLY dumbed down.
Also--only the white cards are playable/obtainable from what I have seen so far...the creature that deals 5 damage on ETB for example is only playable by the AI opponent, as is the crab and the B removal spell--someone please correct me if I am incorrect but I have not seen an option to obtain those cards at all.
Several of these cards are just functional reprints. What's the point of them? Goblin Gang Leader is just Beetleback Chief, Feral Roar is just Monstrous Growth, Shorecomber Crab is just Kraken Hatchling, and so on and so forth. Why not just use the originals? I can kinda understand making, say, Zephyr Gull, because you want more generic flavor than Flying Men. But what was wrong with Monstrous Growth or Kraken Hatchling? And did we really need yet another Grizzly Bears in green and another in white? They're already setting a dangerous precedent with these digital-only cards, but it doesn't even make sense why they'd even bother to with at least a quarter of them.
This time around, I agree with Tiro. The crab is the second best U one-drop and I don't care if it's almost exactly the same as another card. The art sells it.

I mean, sure, the art's great, but there's nothing saying that the art had to go on this specific card. Wouldn't you prefer the art be on something more interesting? Or, more to the point, wouldn't you rather this art be on an actual physical card that you could acquire irl, rather than being something you can only obtain and use in arena?
Maro has stated that if there is a demand for them, they may see paper printing at some time, but also notes that they were designed to be to "weak" for standard.
I've got 25 different Commander decks, and easily in the top 5 of those decks is my Darien, King of Kjeldor soldier deck. Inspiring Commander would without doubt be among the best creatures in the deck. The deck runs several lands that inflicts damage upon myself in order to get soldier tokens, such as Nomad Stadium, Tarnished Citadel, City of Brass, and Grand Coliseum.
I already GLADLY do damage to myself, just to get a token.
With Inspiring Commander out, I not only get my token, but he also 1) negates the damage I'm doing to myself, AND 2) I get to draw a card, White's notorious weakness? All while also possessing the relevant creature type? Not to mention a decent if unspectacular toughness. Yes the CMC is higher than that of Mentor of the Meek, but I'd take this guy over Mentor any day of the week in this particular build. This guy is amazing in the right deck.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd love to play around with that Rakshasa in Commander, and the Crab is adorable and I want it for my Thassa deck.
There is absolutely no way that the Rakshasa would see zero play in Standard if it were printed in paper. It's a freakin' Lava Axe stapled on a 5/5 body. Opponents don't even get the option to sac a creature to avoid it like with Demanding Dragon. The card would be blinked and reanimated endlessly in Standard.
EDIT:
Oh, and it's a cat, so the ETB damage it deals would actually gain you life with the Caracal out.

Doesn't Arena have C19? That means it should have any plane, right? Since core sets are planar mish-mash. Why would NPE cards any different?

I'm not afraid to say I love Seaman. Seaman makes me giddy. When there's a new piece with Seaman all over it, I can't wait to get a load of Seaman.
That actually seems playable. And Rakshasa's are always cool.
