Eh, when one uses “too SJW” as a complaint it’s usually not worth taking too seriously, and the rest isn’t really too different from the usual complaints about sets. Not enough stuff I want, needs to cater more to my personal taste, yada yada.

You proved my point exactly. You don't want to listen to what I have to say and you don't feel I have a right to hold that opinion as well. There is no sense arguing it.
Let's stop feeding the obvious troll who comes into threads about a product meant for Two-Headed Giant when he's already going to hate it because he dislikes card games meant for children and Two-Headed Giant.
Again you have proven my point. Name calling doesn't ever improve your argument. I am trying to offer criticisms that obviously many don't want to hear. I've stated if you like the set that is fine. I know that many on the board can't have a civil discussion on certain topics. Yes its best to leave them alone.
As for artwork, I like the old artwork on many of the reprints. There I offered something I like.
Enjoy the set, enjoy the format, enjoy the artwork if its your thing. Its not mine, I will leave it at that and last post on it. Any more is unhealthy at this point.

You proved my point exactly. You don't want to listen to what I have to say and you don't feel I have a right to hold that opinion as well. There is no sense arguing it.
The problem is that you didn't even said in the first place what you meant for "SJW" art. It's almost like you are ashamed of your own opinions. Which makes people think because of this behavior that if you don't want to explicitly sat what you mean for "SJW art" (but yet still complaining pubicly for SJW art), that you prefer to keep the ambiguity because you don't want to sounds like, let's say racist for example, and exposing yourself as one.
Exactly. There are a number of other examples, but whenever “too SJW” is used as a complaint it’s very consistently a poor one at best.
Let's stop feeding the obvious troll who comes into threads about a product meant for Two-Headed Giant when he's already going to hate it because he dislikes card games meant for children and Two-Headed Giant.

I guess we're doing this...
So 'it is one of the worst sets ever printed.' is a statement attempting objective fact, but you framed it behind an 'I feel' to hide that by making it 'opinion.' Where a more honest person would say "I dislike this set" and a more honest person would have said "This set isn't meant for me." But your initial "I feel it is one of the worst sets ever printed." asks us to find out why, and when you present your reasons you act as if they are the only valid reasoning to apply, and not that these factors are why you might not be the intended audience.
I don't go around telling the My Little Pony fandom 'I feel this is one of the worst cartoons ever made. It's far too colorful and girly for my tastes.' because the opinion in there proves that the subject isn't for me. One of your key reasons for why you dislike this set is because it is for Two Headed Giant. Yet you don't state outright that this specifically means your opinion is of less interest to those that do like two headed giant, but might not like this set.
For instance, "Assist is an interesting idea but the design space clearly wasn't pushed making for a lackluster gameplay experience" would be a reason to dislike this set. Or 'some of the reprints had no business in this set for the draft environment' (note I don't believe this, but it's a good example of a critique that doesn't begin by hating on the concept as a whole.
Now then, the one everyone picked up on was your 'too SJW' (and, for that matter, your dislike of children both on the cards and touching the cards), which I'll merely add is a very odd complaint about pieces of cardboard. Pir is the only child on any piece of art yet you cling to that as one of the reasons worth mentioning (and you've been at it since Pir was spoiled). Diversity doesn't hurt you, unless the idea that people other than you is that offensive. Which is another item that isn't really on the set, and is more on you.
Basically, to those that didn't want to read all that. Your opinion is fine as long as you own that your opinion is not the end of everything, and is very much outside of the scope of who this is for. It'd be like complaining that there aren't enough Standard staples in the next Commander precon decks. If you weren't looking for a fight you could have summarized with.
"I do not like this set, but two headed giant just isn't for me. And nothing in this set's art or design resonates with me." That puts all the weight of your opinion on you and not on the quality of the set itself.
You are free to have your opinions on my opinions. But yours do not invalidate mine.
Was that what I was trying to do? I'm sure I'm pointing out flaws in your arguments and nothing more. Like the "SJW" thing and "kid with imaginary pet" arguments. One wasn't explained well and the other you are actually wrong on as the plane isn't filled with "kids" like you stated.
If something is invalidated it's usually because someone is lacking in facts like how "the whole plane is kids with imaginary pets" in fact it isn't. It's okay to invalidate factually wrong statements.
Find someone who share's a like mind with you and talk it out with them.
That's boring. Also, no one agrees with me anyways.
^^^^^This I would actually like to discuss. Problem is there are many (on both sides) that can't handle an honest and truthful conversation on the topic. I just feel its best to leave sleeping dogs lie on this one at this time.
If you want to discuss it then....do it? I asked how it's "SJW", but you didn't explain it. I'd like to know what you meant by that.
... I can't be the only one here who thinks they threw Pir and Toothy into this set as part of the "We're now in the feedback age" thing. I'm pretty sure they are getting plenty of feedback on this right now. I mean, the truth is I don't like the entire concept of a plane showcasing a pair of androgynous fraternal twins (and no, this is not a blow against androgynous people, just this feels forced) and I got no idea what is even considered a natural hair color on this plane because so far I've seen multiple purple haired individuals, some with neon red hair, and if I'm going by Rushblade commander, the plane has an indigenous population of elf / quickling hybrids that like wearing brightly colored clothes.
I'm totally behind a gladiator planet, but this plane feels so far away from what a mage dual is supposed to be in this game, that it's breaking the fourth wall here. I don't even know if the guy in Stunning Reversal is going to die if he falls in the lava, or is just going to get teleported to some bench and get scolded badly by his coach.

This is more like actual gladiatorial combat the set (as opposed to the mythology of 'srs busines fights to the death' we all learned of Roman Gladiators). Roman Gladiators had a lot more in common with Pro-Wrestlers than anyone cares to admit. Which is about where all the aesthetics are, it also covers why a large number of cards here would be perfect extras in Thor Ragnarok. A lot of the jokes dealing with them being tag-teams feel very directed at wrestling.
Pir and Toothy I am curious if the effects made the creatures, or the creatures made the effects. Because if they wrote the effects of 'beast that gets bigger' and 'thing that makes things get bigger faster' and then figured out an overcosted 1/1 is a good choice for a child? I'd be fine with that. If they came up with the characters, then the mechanics, less so.
When were the Commander decks made for this purpose? It's not often we get a reprint that costs more than $20 in them and since they have to follow one or several themes we don't get random high costing reprints like in this set.
But there were at least two decks in recent Commander editions with the counters subtheme (Ezuri and Atraxa) where Doubling Season would fit right in. And it wasn't as expensive back than, too.
I mean, each year they print decent-to-great Commander precons, while quality Modern product comes out every 3 years or so. Of course I'm frustrated that my format of choice is ignored again.

I say the problem for him is Pir. Junevile AND black. So, apparently, because of that, the entire set became a "SJW" fan service.
Obviously I'm just guessing, but that was the first thing that come up to mind.
That's what comes to my mind as well,
which is odd, considering War Machine is also a black character.

Well, when I get called racist, I have to get dragged back in. Nothing is farther from the truth.
Why would a racist choose War Machine as his picture/avatar? I don't have to answer to anyone here. Anyone who knows me and works or interacts with me on a daily basis knows what type of person I am. How do you even know what race I am? And frankly, why does it matter?

Folks this line of dialog is not healthy. Lets drop it and move on. We have said our piece all around. No need to to continue it. If I said “it’s my opinion the sun sets in the East” that doesn’t suddenly make it beyond reproach. When the majority of “this is too SJW” tends to come from people who lack the capabilities to back up their opinions, and those opinions tend to be based on negative -ist or -phobic biases, it is something that should be called out at every turn.
Magic should be a tolerant and fair game, but it isn’t a place for the intolerant. And I’ll defend Magic being inclusive at every point.

Well you're not wrong that Doubling Season could have been in each of those decks that doesn't mean it would. I think they can put more value in those decks, but to put in a $50+ card in it is asking a bit too much.
You're going to have to point out the "quality Modern product" because there hasn't been more than one or so that people would say is decent, when it comes to the Masters sets (Modern Event Deck was decent and they should make more).

If someone's opinion is clearly wrong that facts can be used to prove that then yes someone can invalidate it. Your "plane full of kids with imaginary friends" line is easily disproved. Your "the art is too SJW" complaint cannot be invalidated as it is an opinion, albeit one you have yet to substantiate with your reasons as to why you think that is.
WarMachinePrime, this isn't computing. You've never struck me as the type to shy away from discussing something, and you typically do so with relative politeness as far as I can recall. Further, you didn't seem like the type to drop a bomb like that and then run away with no supporting arguments. Finally, I'll say that I'm disappointed to hear that "SJW" ***** from you in the first place, as the pejorative itself typically denotes an unwillingness to have a true discussion.

And racist/sexist/other "lovely" stuff. I mean the last thread here on this forum that went on about it was railing against Black characters and females not being "sexy" enough. There is a reason saying "this is SJW stuff" is not a sign of anything positive.
My point is that you took a vague statement that is easily reframed for different purposes, replied to it with a vague statement that is easily reframed for different purposes and used these extremely vague descriptors that both are fuzzy enough that you could both be refering to the in your individual opinion best set and use these freely construable boundaries to define an arguably all-encompassing set, but still feel the need to add "probably".
That's funny to me. And since you could easily have unintentionally done so, I wanted to share my amusing observation. The amusing pitfall of commonly used phrases that qualify our statements until the words we use are no longer anything but a logical tautology and hence technically meaningless is an endless well of joy to me. Reactions in form of acknowledgement of this are appreciated.
Maybe I also think it's a good idea to be more precise in stating your opinions.
EDIT: Just to expand upon that: I think any comparisson of all sets with each other on a meaningless scale as "overall quality" is also just an exercise in futility IMO. Saying a set has (compared to some meaningful reference even) worse executed artwork or worse set design or worse individual card design is more meaningful than saying it is overall worse and then just run into the guy who doesn't care about those categories and rightfully points out that the set is actually better since it has better art direction, better production values, better impact on the [monetary limitation of entry of the] format they care about etc.
WarMachinePrime, you have done nothing wrong in stating your own opinion in this echochamber. I for one like this set for it's reprints, which I will purchase induvidually. I too cannot stand some of the things in this set, let alone where WOTC has obviously been headed for the past few years as it is, but I'll be damned to get my hands on some awesome jank like Doubling Season! Keep being you, and this will be a fun disscussion to see when and if you decide to get around to it.
I think my biggest issue with the set is that they threw all these reprints in there without re-flavoring any of them. It seems weird to have Amonkhet and Ravnica themed/flavor cards without changing them here. Why change doubling season and leave things like greater good and land tax untouched?

It really isn’t an echo chamber here though. You see a wide range of opinions on how well WotC is doing. Always some people hate a set, some people love a set. And whatever WotC faults none of them have anything to do with being too diverse. Things that can actually be an issue like card design or development are more up for debate.
I didn't see anyone complaining about black people. Echo chamber. No one here thinks gay people shouldn't be allowed to play Magic. Echo chamber. Almost everyone here thinks women should be allowed to work at WoTC. Echo chamber. The real Nazis are the people who don't accept Nazis.
Obviously this is sarcasm. It would be really cool if we could keep complaints about diversity out of talk about Magic cards.

My 720 Peasant Cube
Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."

It really isn’t an echo chamber here though. You see a wide range of opinions on how well WotC is doing. Always some people hate a set, some people love a set. And whatever WotC faults none of them have anything to do with being too diverse. Things that can actually be an issue like card design or development are more up for debate.
Obviously this is sarcasm. It would be really cool if we could keep complaints about diversity out of talk about Magic cards.
