Story wise, I would have liked to see Ajani in some other plane before Rav3. What, are we going to just have Ajani pop up in RNA/third set with some unknown walkers and join the assembled gatewatch members? I suppose Jace went searching for Ajani, but I doubt he'll show up empty-handed, and I can't think of a known Planeswalker other than Elspeth who would want to journey to Ravnica to fight Bolas. Koth is going to come back for the post-Gatewatch story centered around Karn v Phyrexia, Tamiyo won't be back until Inn3: the Awakening of Emmy, Samut was still helping defend Amonkhet post-Hekma, though she'd be the most likely to want in. There aren't that many walkers that Ajani would already know, that we have met, and who might have a reason to hate Bolas. Another set before Rav3 could have introduced some new Walker from an unknown plane that has already joined the Catwatch, and Ajani recruits another new Walker by the end of the story. Then, his reasoning for not helping on Dominaria is justified. As it is, I can't see him coming to Ravnica with any backup other than Jace.
Edit: just looked through the Planeswalkers, and the only other known character who could show up is Sarkhan. I'd actually be pretty into having him show up on the Gatewatch's side, but I didn't read Tarkir's story so I don't know if he's committed to defending that plane or something.
The answer is clearly Garruk. Literally the only thing we've known about Garruk since he was cursed... Jesus, 4 years ago... in M15 is that he likes to hunt Planeswalkers now. Garruk is going to show up, fight with Bolas, then they're going to Planeswalk away to chase each other for awhile so we can focus on a different big bad.
Yeah I am curious if Ajani is bringing named characters or brand new walkers to act as cannon fodder so Bolas and his team can get some kills in but WOTC doesn't have to sacrifice named characters that people like.
Samut should want in considering how badly Bolas screwed her plane. KOTH could come along if Ajani agrees to help with New Phyrexia after Bolas.

That would be pretty interesting, but I don't think a big man with an axe would hold a candle to Bolas, even if he's cursed. Dragons are just intrinsically more powerful than humanoids. Also, I can't really see Ajani and Garruk having met before, unless they retcon it
Apparently there will be 11 Pairs although that is just in reddit comment sections it might be elsewhere but I haven't source it yet still kinda unfair if you are in a non allied color pair.
We can predict Shocklands make their return back into standard, again, with this announcement. This is crazy. I’m giddy as a casual player who builds noncompetitive pseudo-standard decks.

It's less about making sense and more about being tired of waiting for the payoff to this plot thread WotC set up 4 years ago.
The decision to have unique buy-a-box promos was likely made when the sets were finalized, which was a considerable amount of time ago. The cards had already been ordered by the time WotC knew that is was unpopular.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Well... I guess I will keep an eye on them for when they inevitably release the next $1000 card >:(
They *will* mess up at some point. And it will be an issue.
Of course, there's also the chance that this is just marketing speech to cover them already having ordered them and having to ride out the supply (similar to foil tokens at FNM). It seems unlikely, but possible.
It'll be a shame to learn it's Ravnica. WOTC should go for a more slow-burning setup for the Bolas showdown there... but it won't. It's just like them to rush into this haphazardly.
And here we are. I'm not surprised it's Ravnica. I anticipated disappointment. What I didn't anticipate was spending three sets and an entire year on one of the planes I hate the most. At least they learned not to go about this BFZ style and actually deliver the plane itself before the Bolas plotline. It's regrettable that this must mean three large sets on that Thassa forsaken world.
I really did want it to be Theros or Vryn. Admittedly, the timing for both, with Bolas on the horizon, was a bit awkward and a stretch. Still, plunging head first into another, more grave Bolas showdown right on the heels of their loss on Amonkhet...
I'll save money over the next year at least, only wanting Jace cards from Ravnica, if any. I will say I do like the change of seasons on the plane. The worst offense about today is no Commander 2018 information. That's the only thing left for me to hold out hope for. Not even the face cards? Are they seriously waiting for the three day spoiler season in August to let us know the face cards of the set? This is actually really offensive to me as a Commander player, that they're relying on gimmicks to hype this product. It's a sign to me that they didn't design a quality product this year that can carry its own weight. And I feel disrespected that Commander products aren't relevant enough to announce on Announcement Days, just standard sets? I guess we're not part of this community.
A bit sad that this was too rushed, but really glad it was Ravnica. Thank God it wasn't Theros, the least the game needs right now after Ixalan did okay and Dominaria did so good was another *****show.
LOL.
Theros brought in a ton of new players. At Wizards, it's incredibly likely that Theros is generally regarded as one of the higher points of Magic in the past 5 years. The inevitable return to Theros will do very well, despite the personal preferences of some players.
On topic: Ravnica part 3 was entirely expected, based on the storyline direction. What we don't know yet: Will Shocklands come back?
I know that there's a vocal minority around here that loves Theros, but let's face it, it was an absolute dumpster fire: Enchantment block with zero Enchantment mechanic whatsoever, a bunch of overcosted cards, an unplayable mechanic in Bestow due to overcosting, one of the worst sets ever in Born of the Gods, one of the most boring Standard season in ages... Yeah the set might have good lore, but it was a complete disaster and what started the age of decline in Standard.
It was not an absolute dumpster fire. Sure it was boring and a lot of the concepts failed or weren't interesting. But atleast it had superb visual design and artwork on most cards, which can't be said for a lot of the more modern sets. It also had a pretty good story (by nu-MTG standards). I liked it more than most modern sets, the exception being Khans.
If any I think at least one Jace card non Planeswalker Deck is guaranteed.
And if so, it means there's at least one card I'll want, and be grateful to Ravnica for. A year and three sets for just that though... Jace on Theros and Vryn is what I'd love to see instead. I'm so bored of seeing him as the Guildpact when he has a promise left to his mother, and the ideal mage to face Ashiok. Guidpact crap, been there, seen that. You know Ravnica is a horrible plane when the only thing anyone anticipates whenever we return there is Shocklands. Most of which are under 10 bucks these days anyway. Ravnica = Shocklands. Well, here are three large sets and a whole year for people to get your 10 cards.
If any I think at least one Jace card non Planeswalker Deck is guaranteed.
It would be weird if the Living Guildpact doesn't get a card.
Indeed I expect two Jace Cards non Planeswalker Deck.
Why do you expect two non-PW deck Jace cards?
I mean over the course of all 3 Ravnica Sets. Cause WOTC loves Jace, he is the Face, and he is popular.
I just hope this ends the Gatewatch Saga or at least results in a massive reshuffling of who is getting focus as we shift to Phyreixa as the new threat or most probable threat.
Other than both are Dragons, they're clearly different in terms of power, age, size, ambition, etc.
Has no one seen how huge Bolas is in actual form?
That said, I do expect Niv to become an Elder Dragon in card form.
Will the 3rd set be called Dragon's Raze/Blaze/Haze? And feature an actual dragon/dragon walker in the set? As to why they won't name the set, it's quite clear the name of the set has to do with the winner of the war. I'm hoping it's Bolas, but we know Wizards usually goes with the Disney route.
Not excited for this at all. The original set was one of the most creative and well designed sets. The new one was just boring and generic. I predict this one will be too. It's so obvious they just have to have Ravnica as the background for the story climax, just because it's the most popular set and marketing said it needs to be so. Why even return to Dominaria if it's going to end in one set? It just feels so pointless and as a sad attempt to cash in on nostalgia before the loads of money that Ravnica 3.0 is supposed to bring in.
It all feels so corporate and I can already see from the art guide I will hate the Ravnica 3.0. None of the concepts look like they would fit in the original but more like in a 2018 video game. So sad.

Bolas winning means that Ravnica either becomes his personal domain or it gets the Hour of Devastation treatment. If you're like Tiro and hate the plane for whatever reason, then that's fine. If not, which is a lot of people if one is to believe it's one of the most popular planes, it's a very risky move.
I could see Jace getting one PW card. Vraska too. There are too many Planeswalkers on Ravnica for the showdown for any to get multiples.
I think Jace and Bolas are most likely to see multiples. Still assuming 5 per set max, 15 slots available. There is not much room for multiples or new characters.
Confirmed
Team Bolas: Bolas (UBR), Vraksa (GB), Ral (UR), Tezz (UB), Lili (B)
Gatewatch: Jace (U), Gideon (W/b), Chandra (R/g), Ajani (GW), Teferi (UW)
That is 10 already. Not counting Bolas recruiting in his Core Set or on Ravnica or Ajani and Jace doing the same. This also leaves Jaya and Karn on the bench.

I think its obvious that In the 25th Anniversary Year WOTC was going to visit the New Main Plane and the Old Main Plane. But I am salty Dominaria gets One Set (after shifting from Block) mostly about Lili storywise while Ravnica gets Three sets.
As for the new guild updates. The issue is more its been two years or three in story since the last time? So why the massive changes in guild clothing? I mean I buy the changes if everyone was more dressed for war but this not so much.

Curious if the battlebond legends with partner can pair up despite incorrect colors I mean it's not thee partner commander mechanic
That's only partially true. They knew back in 2013 that it was a bad idea, and players hated it. Then they, apparently, decided to forget it and had to relearn it again this year. (See #4: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/twenty-things-were-going-kill-magic-2013-08-01 )
