Arkham, the 1920's. Investigators battle horrors from beyond time and space, risking life and sanity while conspiracies of cultists and malign servitors seek gateways for their outer gods to return...
Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
Ugin on turn 5 through a Blood Moon. I think this will be the most expensive card in the set a year after rotation, it will see a small amount of Modern play, and a huge number of EDH players just shat themselves. This card makes me happy.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
With that said, there haven't been too many Elvish Piper effects for noncreature artifacts. Further, this ability is colorless, can throw in cards (such as Phyrexian Scriptures) at instant speed, and has more flexibility by affecting other historic permanents.
Oh, and this may be the first "historic" card we've seen so far that meaningfully interacts with legendary lands (Kamahl's vow doesn't really count as it already gives you lands)... though the interaction is far from optimal.
The Gateway looks good. There aren't enough cards in Dominaria that cheat out permanents. The Mending...not so much. For 5 mana at rare, especially in a color that's short on Sagas, I was really expecting it to do something more impressive. Doesn't help that without explicit support, it depends a good bit on luck and can whiff pretty hard (oh, the top 4 cards of your library were a sorcery, an enchantment, a planeswalker, and a land and your graveyard is empty? congratulations, you just spent 5 mana and 3 turns to ramp by 1).

The Mending card goes in GY-based Commander decks (I will have a space for it in Sidisi, Brood Tyrant).

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
Geez, so much value. Instant speed everything for 4. You can even respond to removal if you have the 4 mana up by Vialing in Oath of Teferi to blink the Portal.
Raff and The gateway make Saga a lot better since you can flash them in at the end of your opponents turn, get the effect of chapter 1 and then on your next draw step you get chapter 2.

No more worrying about counterpsells ruining your plans at getting your historic cards onto the battlefield, other than Disallow. We still don't have great ways of putting exactly the card needed into the hand in Standard other than Diabolic Tutor or Mastermind's Acquisition but with the ramp available now you can probably start using Planar Bridge.
For everyone who's shocked at the Gateway, remember that Quicksilver Amulet is already in Modern and no one is losing to T4 Emrakuls coming off it at any reasonable level of competition. Card is cool, sure, but not remotely broken.

Qouted for truth. Cool card, EDH powerhouse. Just to weak for competitive.

The difference here is this also cheats out Planeswalkers. Is that good enough?

Take a look at the current price for Quicksilver, and then the current price for Thran. Then factor in that Quicksilver's been reprinted a couple times.
I just pre-orded a playset of Thran, just in case it blows up. Fun card regardless.

I also like the implications for artifact decks in EDH in general.

I'll admit that blue already has better tricks to cheat out artifacts in older formats, what with Tinker, Whir of Invention, Transmute Artifact, and Arcum Dagsson existing out there.
