Generally, I'm not surprised when a forum-goer fails to read someone else's post, but failing to read one's own posts still bewilders me.
Reading Comprehension is hard. yes, I said its a crap Dismember that does not mean I thought it needs to be as good as Dismember or should be as good as Dismember. Just that they could make it slightly better then costing 6 mana.
No, it is not. Wastes cards read "Basic Land" in the typeline but have no subtype. Wastes is simply a card name and you won't be able to use Navigator's Compass to make colourless mana.

Why make the comparison, then?
Why not? What other major played piece of removal does -5/-5? Is it not standard to compare one card to another similar card?

Is not the purpose of such a comparison to bring to light if one is better than the other? If you're not using Dismember as a baseline, why use Dismember as your point of reference? There are plenty of spells that give -5/-5 that are more in line with what you should expect from a limited-filler common. Comparing the candle to Demon's Grasp or Pull Under would be more appropriate. Mentioning Dismember implies that it should be at least comparable in strength.
Boo, Navigator's Compass states that the Weatherlight can't planeshift anymore. What's the point of bringing back a ship that can travel planes if it can't travel planes?

I stand corrected.
I had the same thought as you. Oops...
I really really want to abuse this card for some reason. Unfortunately, it looks like their R&D team playtested the heck out of this card.

The Navigator's Compass is designed to be used and abused. Turn 1 land, compass, then turn 2 it brings any of the 10 checklands online and/or perfectly fixes your mana.
So, Barrage Ogre has a little brother. One who will probably see a lot more play.
Azor: This is the Immortal Sun. It can grant an army the power to crush mountains. It offers knowledge to rival sages. It will allow you to wield even the mightiest of spells with greater ease. And it traps those who can escape any mere cell. Orcish Vandal: *chucks the Immortal Sun at a nearby wizard* Makes one heck of a throwing rock, too.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

This..... boo is right. Maybe its just at 'this point' of the story, maybe Karn can make it planeshift dreamin...

Been a member here for over a dozen years. Playing since '95 just got lost in the twitch shuffle.
It's a 1-mana Common artifact. You expect it to be as good as Dismember? Really?
For deckbuilding purposes, Dismember (like all Phyrexian mana cards) is an artifact outside of Commander, and even Commander players often find ourselves paying life on Phyrexian mana cards rather than the mana cost; in fact, my algorithm for my starting mana base, before I further refine it, doesn't even consider Phyrexian mana cards. (It does, however, consider twobrid cards, because there's a huge difference between turn 6 and turn 3.)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

I didn't phrase my statement very well by exactly what I meant by abuse. I meant to say WotC looks like they carefully chose the phrasing to prevent abuse, something like... : Until end of turn, target land you control becomes the basic land type of your choice.
That would "turn off" lands like City of Traitors allowing you to bypass the sacrifice. Heck, old school Magic probably wouldn't even say "you control."
I like the card. I just wish WotC was a little less "careful" sometimes. It's annoying that many of the interesting new cards have such confining limitations like this.

Hold on we don't know if they figure out how to fix that part yet

C'mon Wizards....
Love the compass though. 3 life isn't worth an actual card, but I believe it's very close.

Somebody pointed out to me that a Sanctuary Cat will kill Orcish Vandal and live to tell the tale, and now I can't get the image out of my head.

3+ color EDH decks as well. T1 color fixing, checklands, turning fetchlands into Mana producers, seems like a pretty quality card for budget decks.

Another attempt at a Brittle Effigy effect, although Effigy exiled itself and this does not.
