MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
This seems like it could be pretty fun in casual with Kessig Wolf Run. It doesn't take up a card slot since it's just a land and he makes great use of both the trample and doubles the pump. Loxodon Warhammer would also get pretty out of control if he went unanswered.
...for 9.... and it dies to almost anything, while being chumped all day every day.
look i'm not saying its bad. i'm just saying its... average.
it'll be quirky and fun with stuff like rancor slapped on it, but its by no means ridiculous or broken

...are we really going here?
1) For 9 it doesn't die to almost anything. Do to cost and body and monocolor, it dies to LESS things.
2) Getting chumped, really? We are talking about a legendary in the color with well over dozens of just mono-colored cards to give it some form of evasion. Doesn't even need to be trample. Slap Treetop Bracers or even heck a Trailblazer if you want to go really old school and you can knock someones lights out in one punch.
3) You and and me know this is above average for a green legendary for what it does AND at uncommon no less. Show me the next uncommon that reaches this same sort of power by itself.
4)It is ridiculous that it can become a 20/20 by itself for such a frankly cheap cost in a color that loves ramping and making mana.
These Uncommon Legends get my mind brewing. I've got a Tetsuko decklist already done, and probably a Valduk one later this week if all goes well. That being said for Grunn is interesting

yeah. we are going there.
you're jumping through hoops to make it do what you want.
no haste, no shroud, no hexproof, no flying, no built in trample. the turn this thing comes down you have to have things set up to not only protect it but give it these things or else it's going to be blocked by that 1/1 token and do nothing. there's no surprise factor here. its just a big dumb fatty that gets bigger and dumber and dies to... anything that isn't lightning bolt. its a craw wurm that gets bigger, at a fair mana cost.
it'll be okay in limited if you can build your entire deck around it, it might be okay in constructed but probably not because spot removal is a thing. its mediocre as a commmander for a staggering number of reasons, and unplayable anywhere else.
you like it, i get it. cool.
i didn't say it was a bad card. i said it was an average card. the hype is overrated. it'll be forgotten in a week.

Oh I'm the one making mental gymnastics when I apply commonsense to this in this game?
Haste, shroud, hexproof, flying, indestructible, regeneration, protection, or trample would be STUPID on this card if it was baked in. It would actually make the card way too broken for a limited, standard, brawl or commander environment.
Yes you have to have ways to protect it, like most creatures that lack protection. This isn't some revelation, this is part-and-parcel with deckbuilding. If you didn't include some means to protect your threat(s) which need this protection, you built your deck poorly.
Chump blocking is easily countered by even utilizing a Key to the City (unblockable) or Forebearers' Blade (trample+vigilance, 16/16 or 26/26 when attacking) in just standard as options.
Big dumb beater huh? I'd love to see you get windmill slammed by this ape then when given something like Cobbled Wings.
The only thing it dies to that is a damage based spell, in just standard, is Star of Extinction if the ape is kicked otherwise it survives most damaged based spell threats. Also why Lightning Bolt? This survives any 4-damage or less spell naturally, so you couldn't even get the right damage spell for when it is unkicked, you could have just suggested Hour of Devastation.
Also let me do your job for you just a second, why not just suggest something like Settle the Wreckage or River's Rebuke? That would have been a more appropriate retort and the hardest one for me to make a comeback to. As even stuff like Fumigate can be stopped by something like a Heroic Intervention.
Its not even a Craw Wurm. You can't even get your lowballing comparison right. At minimum its a Pheres-Band Raiders, minus inspired, plus P/T doubler if attacking, if attacking its as big as a Ghoultree. If kicked however? It starts off as big as a Ghoultree and grows to a P/T size that is not printed on any magic card in the game.
Its above average, its not overrated, its being fairly judged.
It a basically a craw wurm without the help of other cards. It's not like you're going to get to hit anyone with craw wurm unless it's fatal anyway. Now that being said, I still love It. Its huge.
The first commander that lets you go literally ape***t on your opponent.
Say, do you suppose a return to Alara is coming after C19? Stronkey Kong here would fit an Exalted strategy really well, and he's got power 5 and +1/+1 counters to boot.

I'm thinking things like Riding the Dilu Horse, Fireshrieker, or Berserk. Grab Concordant Crossroads, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, and Surrak, the Hunt Caller for haste. Also a bevy of mana dorks, and Asceticism for the protection.
