I hope we can see it in Arena ASAP. It seems great there. In paper, I'm not that sure, but hey any official format that may get proper support is fine by me.
Commanders 2018 is about evoking powerful PWs, so I can see their direction of making Commander product also friendly to Brawl, and vice versa.
According to the outline they just posted typically multiplayer sets like Planechase, Archenemy, Commander Sets and Conspiracy sets would not be legal in Brawl because those cards are not standard legal.
I knew they were gonna use it to sell planeswalkers lol.
Honestly, it sort of makes sense. Most card games, once the card pool gets especially large, introduce a rotating format as a means of lowering the barrier to entry for newer players to compete (and sell the most recent set to competitive individuals).

Yep this is 100% what is happening. I remember trying to introduce new players to Commander but they found the massive cardpool and deck size to be daunting.
As what WotC is basically doing is: Instead of trying to climb a mountain, climb a wall first.
Very hard not to look at this as a cash grab move.
Exectuive 1: "Folks, standard is failing and our profits are down. We can't just keep churning masters set to make people buy premium products, they're starting to notice our scheme".
Executive 2: "Standard has been bad for years, but you know what people like? Commander"
Executive 3: "Why don't we make Commander with only standard legal cards, so people are forced to buy into our new product even though it is bad?"
*Cheers in the room*
*End scene*
It is... almost as though they were a for-profit company instead of the non-profit charity we were led to believe! Monsters!!!
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Oh, that's cute, thanks. A monocolor combo that can involve a Legendary of that color as commander. And the color of tutors as well, even if they cost 4.
Wastes are not legal - though you can almost get there with colorless lands. (There are 17 before Dominaria, I believe.) #wotcstaff
There are actually 18 before Dominaria, so at least 19 with the new scry land. We just need just need 2-3 more and it's a go. Here's hoping I will get to play Karn as my commander in 2 formats!

I hope you're not counting Evolving Wilds, which in such a deck could neither produce mana (barring Navigator's Compass) nor fetch anything.
So I’m primarily a commander player and Usually shy away from FNM and standard (if it wasn’t for commander I probably wouldn’t even still be playing). This definitely seems interesting. I’ll definitely be playing commander more but I’ll definitely try my hands at a brawl deck. The question and problem is: how many LGS will actually be hosting a time to have brawl? I don’t see it becoming super widespread since I still feel FNM and commander nights will still dominate.
With the 1 copy restriction a lot of cards in standard would become playable.
With a 60 card deck you would run like 35 or even 40 unique cards, which is quite a bunch and pretty much always includes some janky stuff instead of just the best cards around.
----
On casual level thats fine.
In a more competitive environment this kinda becomes a format thats just way too swingy as the powerlevel of cards is not really distributed well among all cards and some really badly need the multiple copies.
This would work best if they used it as some kind of precon theme for decks , just like they do Challenger decks, this could very well work as a Precon thats sold every 2 sets of a block and provide like mini-commander decks to kick-start the format.

I can see why they would do this from a set value standpoint, but this is more like a really messy limited format. I guess this is their answer for arena, as it lacks a secondary market?

3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Polyraptor + Forerunner of the Empire + Heroic Intervention
(I know this doesn't actually make an infinite number of Polyraptors that all survive, but it does make infinite etb and death triggers and ?dozens? of Raptors that survive.)
Why doesn't this make an infinite number of Polyraptors? It would be finite if you didn't have Heroic Intervention in there, but with it, it seems like infinite raptors.

The Raptors that enter the battlefield after HI resolves aren't indestructible, only the ones that were on the battlefield when it resolved get Indestructible. You can make wave after wave of Raptor if you like (hence all the triggers), but eventually some of the new ones die to damage and eventually a steady state maximum is reached.

Don't think so.
Every polyraptor will make 5 polyraptors before it dies. And every one of those make 5.

Or to say it another way, exponential. Good luck naming an accurate boardstate though, if you are going to try to shortcut it to more than say, 500 or so.

They claim they've been playing it in-house for the past year. If that was the likely trend of things, it likely would have happened in their study.

How much you wanna bet that's the second time Firesong and Sunspeaker gets printed?
