Signature Spellbook: Jace is a collection of eight cards plus one random premium foil version of one of those eight cards for the serious blue mage. Each card has Jace-flavored art and special frames just for this set. Check out the packaging and the eight cards below!
Set Name: Signature Spellbook: Jace Number of Cards: 9 Release Date: June 15, 2018 Official Three-Letter Code: SS1 Twitter Hashtag: #MTGJace Languages Available: English MSRP: $19.99 *Applies to U.S. Only
Huh, interesting. Nothing that's super hard to come by, but a very interesting avenue for targeted reprints. I wonder how much of a print run it will have, and what the MSRP will be.
Some of the foils may become pretty sought-after, with the new art and frames.

Well that's kinda disappointing, not that I had high hopes for this. All but one of his "signature spells" are older than he is, and the frames look just thrown together by someone for a graphics design class.
I like the frame and the Jace-tastic art on these (especially Brainstorm), but can't see spending $20 on it even though you are technically getting value (Beleren + Gifts + Mystical are worth about that much, even post-price crash). If you were just starting out at, say, EDH and really wanted to power up your blue collection this is a fine buy as Mystical Tutor, Counterspell, Brainstorm, and Negate are amongst the best instants in the format and you can hopefully find a tournament player interested in Threads of Disloyalty, Gifts Ungiven, and Blue Elemental Blast, and for a die-hard collector they are pretty, but for the average player like me this feels like a pass.

Feels like this is being pulled in too many directions at once. Depending on which formats you play you'll probably care about half the cards and be looking to trade away the rest. Also I really don't understand why they keep reprinting blue elemental blast. On a high note this is a really good idea for distributing foils in commander and other precon products.
I actually love the art and frame. They could have gone with some better card picks though. Cryptic Command with a Jace art would have been incredible but even so looks like a cool product. I do have a problem with the RANDOM foil. This is a nightmare for collectors. Jace should have been the foil card in this and not let randomness slip into this product. Keep it for booster releases

I actually really like this new scheme. It allows cards that or versions of cards to be foil that otherwise wouldn't get the chance. Imagine implementing this in a commander precon product, or in the challenger decks or something to increase the wow-factor. It would kind of feel like a free lottery ticket coming in your precon, sure you could get a foil common that's been reprinted a billion times, but it could be the chase card from the deck. I think I like it for the same reason in this product, it allows other cards to be printed in foil, giving players the option to pimp if they want to.
They do look quite nice but most these cards have so many options in terms of other available printings. The most desirable part (the foils) will likely warp very fast and that is off putting.
Interesting that you get 1 random foil. I wonder if it's truly random (so every card his 1,1,1 chance) or if they have weighed it so the 'better' cards are rarer.

You’ve made a very objective post about these and hit all relevant points about the product. I appreciate that because I was wondering who in the world would be excited about this. You opened my eyes but your post also allows me to now say:
Words cannot describe how little I care about this product.
Five of the cards here are cube staples so I think this is a decent buy if you dont have them yet. The cube staples here are not really hard to come by, though.
Not really interested
But if the Brainstorm turns out cheap I will get one as a single, as I personally think this is the best art despite m. poster boy.
I think I am reaching a point in which there is no more specialness in new frames.
Foil randomness will obviously make foils expensive, which annoys me as a collector. They have figured out that in order to have expensive cards they have to be in random packs. It used be cheap to acquire some Cube staples thanks to PW Duel Decks, FTV, prerelease and game day cards but now it is harder.
I couldn't be more disappointed. They got rid of FTV's for this?
A steaming pile of worthless garbage and the one card that's worth anything is a tutor that's seen a major reprint recently. I find the art atrocious - I know Jace is the poster child of Magic right now but this just turns my stomach.
I'm sure Wizards will faithfully continue to disappoint us all with the other Planeswalker spellbooks. Watch out for Naturalize with Nissa and Fireball with Chandra.
Too bad they used the ugliest Jace Beleren art. At least they could use the promo book one...
Personally I think this the best art out of all printings of Jace. Jace 1.0 looks like a dude you don't want to mess with. Far and away the ugliest to me is Jace, Architect of Thought.
I guess I'm the one person that's really excited for this product. At 20$ it's an easy buy for me (I'm planning on getting 4)
I love this because they're not all guaranteed foil which was the main reason I never purchased FTV.
The art is Jacetastic, and the Brainstorm is a flavor dream. The pose, the three runes, representing the '3 cards drawn', and the Flavor Text (I have a plan. Actually, I have three)!
Counterspell, Negate, Gifts, Brainstorm, Threads, all easily make it into a cube.
Mystical Tutor is neat, and I play Blue Elemental Blast in Pauper.
The new Jace Border is.. okay, but easily fit in a commander deck.
...I might need to buy 5 so I have enough to fit in all my decks!

Brainstorm is cool, and a foil one will probably pack a brutal $$$. I like Blast as well.

Pity I dont play a format with either...
