I wouldn't expect these Sagas to have a super high monetary value, so taking a mythic spots will bum some people out. When I first I saw mythic, I went 'oh man! That can be 5 of 15 mythics right there'. Then I realized that maybe more value will be in the Rare slot which would be more exciting! Also, WotC has a Rarity article up to maybe help explain why Phyrexian Scriptures and likely the other Sagas at Mythic.
I'm kinda puzzled at the timing. "After your draw step" leads to your main phase, eight? Nothing really gains priority during draw as it's a special game action, or am I wrong here? Does this halt the game during Draw after you've drawn?
Players DO get priority during the draw step. But this actually triggers at the beginning of precombat main (as the leaked FAQ specifically says: "As your precombat main phase begins (immediately after your draw step), you put another lore counter on each Saga you control. Putting a lore counter on a Saga in either of these ways doesn't use the stack." I agree it's oddly worded.
We get used to most things given enough time, but this one is a stretch. (badam, boom, ding!)
As other have noted, why not reuse the PW layout? Why not use the upkeep like the game intended? I'm not a fan of the vertical art. To me, this design is closer to the Kamigawa flip cards. That is: ugly and cramped.
Edit: "As this enters"??? Are they revising templating to shorten them?
Maybe they just want to make MTG language less polished ( and that was a bonus, a good thing that make mtg, in my opinion, better than most games ) ( and that is really sad, i hope that in other languages it is not like that, maybe i pick a spanish version )
I would like to see Sagas in Theros, a viking set, and maybe Kamigawa as a card telling the story of a character.

The untap phase is more like what u are saying. In modern, it is pretty common to cast things after the draw of an opponent during the draw step.
I think they used draw step to make sure it is not abusable by efects that skip upkeep or doubles it.
I praised how WOTC handled the leak after reading Blake's post. This time around, I can't say the same. This pendulum of saying they'll kick off Dominaria today and letting us wait and get excited, just to find out the plans have changed AGAIN is just ridiculous. I'm not a fan of this system at all. Bad move.
On topic - this layout is weird.
Exactly, I had no problem getting nothing but the story this week, even after the leak, but them stepping up and pulling things forward was a good move, now they even pulled the story back, that really upsets me.

Thanks to DarkNightCavalier from Heroes of the Plane Studios for this sick Signature.
I just realised that this card is kind of neat in a UB control deck. The usual board wipe has been 5 cmc lately, and this also wipes on turn 5. What usually happens is that you play a wipe, they follow up with more creatures while your counter mana is down, which might put you behind. This thing lets you forecast the board wipe when you play it, then they won't play any more creatures for the next turn, then on your turn, the board is wiped and you have mana up to counter follow-up creatures.
Not saying that this card is flawless or even great, but it's a very clever design.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
The art is perfect, although I would rather have seen a compleated claw holding it rather than a human hand.
I see a dead and lifeless human arm draped on this altar possibly being drained of blood to power the object. Seems fitting for Phyrexia if you ask me.

Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Expected a magic card, got something right out of a boardgame instead.
I don't really know what makes this a mythic, it can't exactly be due to power reasons. It's a minimal boost, followed by delayed boardclear that might net you a built-in creature advantage of 1. Clearing opponents grave is just irrelevant after three turns, lets face it. Sure, it's a complex card, but I guess we'll also get sagas at lower rarities.
I'm also pretty surprised by that wording, is this a new thing that they type such abrupt explanations? 'Add a lore counter' shouldn't it be 'Add a lore counter on it or CARDNAME'? Sacrifice After III. III what, effect, trigger, counter? I get how the card works, but this seems pretty drastic compared to previous wordings. In all fairness, though, this layout is clean, unique and readable, so they got that part right.
That is one amazing-looking card. Please hold your questions, and hold tight in general—we'll be back on March 21 with the Dominaria hype train in full gear.
God bless their incredible confidence and enthusiasm.
Mass-removal is always at least Rare. This is potentially a one-sided Wrath utilizing a complex new mechanic and with flavor that feels "Legendary" and "Mythic", so it makes sense that it is borderline rare and mythic, and they erred up. I am going to assume now that there are no common sagas, and the mere fact of being a Saga probably upgunned a lot of rarities. That's before we talk price point and secondary market which WotC absolutely considers as it sells packs; this is no Damnation or even Nevinyrral's Disk but it's the closest we've gotten to those cards in standard in a loooong time. A 4CMC wrath, even a telegraphed one, is pretty powerful and will only get more powerful in standard when all the indestructible threats rotate; at a time when UB Control is at its zenith this card is going to be sought-after.
I love it, and while I don't get the art I do like the design.

if anyone finds a way of duplicating or recurring these, it could be very strong. Standard implications immediately go towards an artifact based scarab god deck...which could just be filthy. Feels slow for modern, but could break jund/abzan mirrors open by growing a goyf and then wiping a board maybe (probably way too cute).
I wonder if demonic pact was a design base for this, as it fits flavorwise and this is far easier to track then the design there. Pact was also pretty gross if you had a way of destroying or donating it around your opponent interacting. I like these enchantments forecasting a set of effects. It introduces more elements of decision making without having to read your opponents hand, or just running stuff out blind. Imho it adds depth without much complexity.
Not triggering in upkeep is something that I'm almost positive they'll dive into. While I doubt it has any modern implications in mind I could be wrong. It could indicate some kind of upkeep recursion or something like that coming down the pipeline (return to theros?).
rarity makes sense. It's a four mana board wipe + some and it could potentially be one sided. It's a new mechanic and has major storyline implications for those who want to dig into the past stories. The art callbacks mentioned before further increase the amount of nostalgia this would trigger for an enfranchised player.
I like that the frame sorta reads like a book/scroll with the vertical break. It's a nice play visually off the name. Looks way less cramped AND perplexing then the kamigawa flip cards. I also like this better then aftermath cards as well because my opponent and I don't have to constantly rotate cards to figure out what they do over and over again.
Let's just hope these are playable. From the release notes the white one looks particularly groovy.

I agree 100% with this.
On the frame, it looks very much like the spine of a book, and the straight vertical frame for the image allows for some very evocative flavor.
The card itself is quite solid, and the fact that it's an enchantment certainly allows for some abuse with blinking and reanimating, not to mention the counter manipulation.
The most surprising thing to me here is the community's response to the frame. I was so ready to open this thread and just see "This doesn't look like a magic card" with like thirteen upvotes. To my surprise, the response has been mixed, but more positive than negative. It's surprising and refreshing to see such vocal optimism from the general online MtG community.

I think their new use of the pronoun is awesome! It's now much more polished, I think.
I write for a living, and I always try to make things both clear and concise. MTG's unwillingness to say things like "this card" or "this" has always bugged me. Skipping the stilted [CARDNAME] language and going for shorter, clearer English is a huge step forward in my book.
I also like the design. Will look good on the battlefield.
That's one ugly frame. A shame too, because the art looks really awesome. Also I feel like this card is ridiculously overdesigned. And they need to stop with new cardframes for a while.
