Well, after rereading the leaked cards with a clearer head, my judgment hasn't changed a single bit: I don't think most of these cards are good. Some of them are pretty cool, sure (the creatures from the WWW,UUU,RRR,GGG cycle, 2 or 3 legendary creatures, one or 2 walkers...), but the vast majority of them are just... bad.
Don't get me wrong, they have lots and lots of flavor, references and callbacks, and we are not even seeing flavor text and art yet, just by name you can tell. However, Magic is a card game, and that is the aspect that I put front and center. I think most of the designs are clunky, especially the cards with kicker and the cards that play around kicker, but some of the legendary creatures are just reaaaaally bad, and some don't even 'feel' like they're doing anything legendary. The conditional legendary spells also feel clunky, the sagas look generally mediocre... oh well.
Some of the tribal synergies do look good, goblins in particular, and wizards might be playable due to having 'lightning bolt', but I'm very disappointed with the design of the cards. I think if this set didn't have the name 'dominaria' on it with bunches of references to old cards and tropes, people here would be looking at it with very different eyes. They're basically using your heart to get to your wallet. I hope the rest of the cards gets me more excited.

Good luck finding Leyline of Singularity if you are wanting to combo with Mox Amber. Not sure if the combo is any good for ramping in Modern or not but LoS used to be cents on the dollar. I think its spiking as we speak.
An otherwise mostly do-nothing 4 CMC spell that is horrible in multiple, yet you'd need multiples to be consistent, to play a mox that's you'd like a 4-of... but additional copies are useless thanks to the leyline.
Grand Warlord Radha is definitely going to be my new Gruul General—
I'm already using Tana, the Bloodsower, and Radha does what I want (ramp w/ creatures) even better.
On the other hand, I'm very disappointed by these Orzhov Generals (gee, never said that before!)

Other than that, I'm seriously worried for Liliana given the story spotlight cards. I'm most interested in knowing who's in Bolas's clutches. Initial thoughts are, 'Liliana, duh,' but what if it's Tetsuko?
Oh, her? Nicol Bolas has a blood feud with her entire family because Tetsuo Umezewa killed him and upended his entire empire. Tetsuko Umezewa is the last person a Vorthos would expect to be an agent of Bolas.
I am really curious, if the appearance of the Llanowar Elves in the Chapter "New Terms: Various Nonfunctional Changes" really is a commitment, that they will be in the set.
This is strange, because they told us, that Mana Ramp Creatures for 1 are too powerful.
Does someone has a count for how many cards are on the FAQ? Are there still any missing?
Yes its in the set Forsythe confirmed it already.
Just to add to this, even if they hadn't confirmed that Llanowar Elves would be in the set, of all the cards to use as an example of the new mana phrasing (which isn't very new, by the way, they did it in Ice Age IIRC), Llanowar is a Dominarian location. So it was highly unlikely to be a coincidence.

I'll let you buy out the leylines.
Additional copies aren’t useless thanks to the leyline - they’re useless (read: Legendary) even in the absence of leyline.
With the amount of cards revealled (by force in this case), I wonder if we'll have a Standard akin to that of when Invasion was released (read: a diverse group of decks)?
Ahh it's like my late-teens/early 20s all over again. Without the depression.

Is this talking about the cards in Standard or some other Constructed format?
but some of the legendary creatures are just reaaaaally bad, and some don't even 'feel' like they're doing anything legendary.
I think this is because the set will have about 30 uncommon legendary creatures. We’ve gotten used to legendary creatures all being bomb rares - I think this plane will be stuffing the environment with ‘everyday legends’.
Is this talking about the cards in Standard or some other Constructed format?
Mainly standard. I obviously don't expect standard legal sets to have a great impact in eternal formats since RTR, aside from some odd corner cases (eldrazi from OGW, delve spells from Khans, etc.). Wizards is playing too safe for that to happen.
I played commander competitively for a long time and just by looking at these legends I can tell that none of them are good in competitive... maaaaaybe Jodah, but I'm sure the majority of the commander crowd will be please, since they play casually.
As a matter of fact, this set looks a lot like 'Commander: the Pandering'. Really, I can't recall a set so geared towards edh stuff like this one.

Yeaaah, that is also problematic from a gameplay perspective. Cards like Hallar, the Firefletcher, Kwende, Pride of Femeret, Lyra Dawnbringer, Naru Meha,Master Wizard, Shanna Sisay's Legacy, etc. All feel like they could be just... normal creatures, and they would actually be better if they were so. The legendary rule diminishes their playability.

Oh, I'm not buying at the price they are bound to spike to.
Someone is going to brew up a UR Modern deck with LoS, Mox Amber, Gemstone Caverns and/or SSG and Jace and start dropping him on turn 1 or 2. Don't know if it will be good enough of course but it could happen in Modern. I'll buy your Leyline of Singularities at 50 cents apiece if you have them. If they aren't worth anything to you.

Not even Jhoira?
4 mana 3/3 with no built-in protection that does nothing when it enters the battlefield and EVEN after being on the battlfield for a turn has a very mediocre draw ability. On color, Nin, the Pain Artist is much better for an artifact build. Just ramp, cast nin, make it shoot itself, draw tons of cards. Arcum and Daretti are also better artifact-themed generals, Jori En is a better value general and Mizzix is a more powerful card for the same overall cost (though Mizzix herself is not competitive, while the other generals that I mentioned are).

after thinking about it about, man im really bummed about how this is going down, I love what's been accidentally shown but the hype for this preview season would've been absolutely unreal if it all went as planned. I think we were all hoping for just a few cards to get leaked before previews, but not like this. notlikethis.gif
If the set needs hype to sell than it is a failure. That's basically all there is to it.

I ask because I think it's too early to judge the impact of many of these cards on Standard.

With only half of the set spoiled, I agree. That said, 'legendary' is a poor mechanic to build around imho. At it is core, having the legendary supertype should allow for a more powerful effect to be printed in a particular card. When you start to stamp legendary in things that don't actually look particularly powerful you severely undermine the playability of a legendary card. Look at Kamigawa and how many terrible legendary things it had and how unplayable that makes them.
It doesn't help that the other build around mechanics are kicker, which I think it is very weak as they printed, and tribal, which is not looking too bad, but needs lots of support which, for the moment, doesn't seem to be there yet. I can't imagine Dominaria making much of a difference in standard. Probably the most powerful cards like some planeswalkers and the best legendary creatures will find some room in some good stuff list, but I'm very skeptical about any of the themes and mechanics of the set working their way in constructed formats. Tribal is the only thing that I see with some hope.

While I agree that this is probably not going anywhere in Modern...I do think you're selling Mox Amber a bit short. Even if you draw multiples, your extra copies are essentially Lotus Petals/Simian Spirit Guides/etc., which are definitely good enough to see play, with the bonus of getting to keep at least one for your subsequent turns. I don't think it'll make the core of some T1 deck, but then again, I've learned to not sell fast mana short. People thought Lion's Eye Diamond was one of the worst cards ever made when it was printed.
What were you expecting land wise? The check lands are some of the best lands ever, right behind Shock and ABUR duals.
The very best would be NEW lands, good ones you know, no need to reprint at all in a set like DOMINARIA (remember, we get Core Sets back and all kinds of stuff that can have reprint lands all day long).
----
Just the idea to have INNISTRAD lands in DOMINARIA is just cruel injustice to magic lore , they are somewhat "neutral", but it just feels so wrong and misplaced to do that.
----
The lands arent completely bad, but in the end, this set deserves better.
The lands are really the biggest "bad" about the set, that does so much right.
Money-wise the lands are a big letdown too, these lands are cheap as dirt, no "need" for reprints even too.
Simply put, the choices is just bad, and it could be much better.
With the "legendary" theme, even some legendary lands would have kicked the bucket far (like legendary duals ?) , or "wish"-lands (that fetch from the sideboard, which is crazy nice design as it saves shuffling all together).
A lot of options , no reason to reprint stuff from Innistrad here.
