I do like miniatures mostly for RPGs and dungeon-crawling/small skirmish games I've designed/modded off Castle Ravenloft.
But this is Wizkids and their minis tend to be very low quality, and Magic's own minis with the Heroscape clone were pretty bad.
Also, I don't really care for Dominaria and specially not Benalia. There's nothing there that isn't readily avaliable from D&D minis. If I were to care they'd have to give me Ixalan vampires or merfolk, eternalized minotaurs, Esper vedalken or strixes, Innistrad cathars or spirits, cephalids, merrow, something that has some actual design to it. Not just knights.
This is a perspective I share. The main reason I'm looking forward to MtG game supplements/tie-in products with miniatures is that some creatures unique to Magic are hard to find miniatures for. Even simple ones like Leonin were a pain since 90% of anthropomorhized cats are going to be based on Egyptian mythology/Bastet and hence are house cats. Trying to find a maned catfolk that doesn't disqualify itself from being a stand-in for Ajani etc. by other specifics took a while. And 'generic catfolk with mane' is actually something I expected to find easily.
Yeah. I like Planechase but this seems like this is a grand evolution - that I look forward to using. A lot of positive reviews.
I love planechase conceptually, I dislike that many of the planes feel real "creature focused" and that there could have been a little more variety in effects.
Edit : I know what I want this to be, Monopoly style game board, at the start of each upkeep the player rolls a d-6 moves just like monopoly, and the various places of Dominaria are the properties, you can pay mana that turn to "buy them" and they each have effects for you if you own them...the twist is that if one or more creatures deal combat damage to a player on your turn you get to take one of your properties..and if you have all 3 of one set..you get an enhanced effect.

Explorers of Ixalan is great fun, we've used it in Commander..and it is a blast, better than Planechase.

Hey, this is a really good point. I've occasionally used game pieces as tokens (the spearmen from the Shogun game as Saprolings) so if these minis are portable enough, painting them and using them in Magic games will be pretty sweet, so I'll definitely take a look at this.
