Some Magic: the Gathering news from Seoul, South Korea. Yesterday at the Seoul Duke City Hotel, game publishing company Netmarble hosted the 4th Annual NTP (Netmarble Together with Press).
A total of 18 new mobile games were announced as part of the Netmarble lineup for 2018 which included Seven Knights 2, Icarus M, First Born, Harry Potter 'Hogwarts Mystery' and Magic: the Gathering 'M' (a code name).
Netmarble Chairperson Bang Jun Hyuk, Kwon Young-Sik, and Baek Young-Hoon provided some Alpha gameplay media which showed 3D images of this multi-player real time game for the mobile game market.
Oh good some exploitative pay-to-win mobile game nonsense with a Magic skin slapped on just what Magic needed
Hey, if it generates some money they can pour into the card game, why not? Also, it's basically advertisement in a popular medium.
What exactly makes you think money from this has even the slightest possibility of going to the card game? That's not how corporations work. They're leveraging the existing popularity of their brand to create a mobile game that is designed to generate profit for shareholders. Based on the previous work of the developer and mobile game trends in general, this game is likely going to exploit people psychologically and success will depend more on money/time spent than skill. Given how bloated and oversaturated the mobile game market is, I doubt many people will end up being exposed to Magic through this. It's more likely existing Magic fans will just have another outlet to give money to Hasbro.
Seriously, where does this "it's okay when companies do *****ty things because they can invest the money in the thing that I like" idea come from? No company ever does that.
i can't wait to have another product to needlessly dump money into over paper!
...i'm being sarcastic.
why this company, and why this way?
why not give us what we keep asking for, and pick a decent company to make your product. not that it even matters because they're just churning out stuff without any real support now. it's also generally poorly designed, and relies entirely on a quick cash grabs.
i mean, i guess you could spend money to improve what you've got, or just keep throwing garbage at us hoping something sticks
Wizards and Netmarble didn’t release many details. They’re calling Project M a “multiplayer battling game” in which “players show off their creativity and strategy as they battle across the planes of the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse,” and “game avatars will be fully animated as they race across the battlefield to defeat their opponent.” So it doesn’t sound like a collectible card game. The video and images sure look like a multiplayer online battle arena, or MOBA.
...
“Magic: The Gathering Project M is a strategic, multiplayer battler featuring fan-favorite Planeswalkers, creatures, and spells from Magic: The Gathering. It’s still early in the process, but we’ll be working closely with Netmarble to roll out specific details about the game as we get closer to release,” said Wizards exec David Schwartz. “We are pleased to announce an all-new thrilling Magic: The Gathering game through our partnership with Netmarble , who has such an extensive track record of success and we are impressed with their progress on the game thus far.”
No, that was by Cyptic Studios.
It's conceivable that in 2 years, we will be able to play digital Magic on Arena, MTGO, as an RPG, or as a mobile MMO.
