So Vraska's powers have grown 'stronger'. No longer is she turning people to stone, but instead is turning them to gold. Perfect touch for a treasure seeking pirate.

I feel like this card haa an ugly design flaw: If you put this in your deck, you don't have a lot of creatures that die to the non-ascended version, and if that's the case, you don't care about the ascend bonus. Sure, you might want the city's blessing for other cards in your deck, but the ascend bonus of breaking symmetry might as well not be there.

Decent sweeper in limited / standard though. Not going to complain
So was Flaying Tendrils. We've been in the land of strictly-better infests for a while now. This one is interesting as it's a strictly-better infest that decks that run their own small creatures aren't completely against running.

Yahenni's Expertise casting Golden Demise as the free spell, because I don't want any creatures on the battlefield *at all*....and also because I miss Languish.
Decent sweeper in limited / standard though. Not going to complain

I would argue Flaying Tendrils is not strictly better in the event you can get your small guys back from the graveyard.

I think you are completely incorrect; there is no design flaw and the card is actually very well done. Actually what you stated is the exact opposite of what is the case here:
If you put this in your deck, you don't have a lot of creatures that die to the non-ascended version
False. Token decks in modern nearly always have sweepers, despite the fact it kills more of their creatures than the opponents. Because it is easier for the token player to come back. In the case of Golden Demise, the more creatures you have that would die to it, the less likely they are to actually die to it. The card is perfect out of the side for a BW vampire tokens deck in standard.
You see the card as "having a design flaw" but really your first premise is just incorrect. The card is designed wonderfully and the part of the card that "may as well not be there" is the part of the card that makes it a lot stronger than similar versions printed in the past.
By thus card's name I thought it would be a removal spell version of Spell Swindle. Something that "turns" a creature into treasure. Either a big mana cost kill spell that gives you treasure tokens equal to the destroyed creature's power/toughness/cmc or a really cheap kill spell that gives your opponent treasure tokens equal to the destroyed creature's power/toughness/cmc.

I'm surprised turning something to gold only gives it -2/-2, but turning it to stone means exiling it. I'm not saying it should have done a lot more, but it just seems a tad strange.

It's too bad she probably can only do this in Orazca.
NB4 Scrooge McDuck is the optional boss Jace and Vraska face when trying to plunder Orzaca's Money Bin.
As for the card, seems solid. Useful against aggro and a mirror breaker for tokens. Glad to have access to it.

Also, the card is really good, especially for an uncommon.

Hopefully some lunatic goblin who goes mad and drifts out to sea, forcing everyone to once again go looking for that magical treasure
