Really interesting card, super disappointing that this will only ever be a better cancel post-combat. I guess it handles in-combat tricks, but honestly this is a little disappointing once you start to think about how limited it is.
So close to being super good. Problem is it's a counterspell you can only use cost effectively on your turn. Mind you, you could still use it for full price on an enemies.
Not necessarily, if it's worth playing it like in infect, it may be worth bluffing it. Lots of infect games come down to whether or not the stack of pumps resolves.
This card feels like it's one of those that could go either way with being rare or uncommon and being rare irritates me slightly. It's not terrible though, if a tempo deck comes along in Standard it might find a place there
Card is plenty reasonable. It's a cancel with upside. Swinging with anything let's you more easily resolve threats second main. Sure you can't 1 mana counter and get a swing off glorybringer in standard, but that doesn't make it unplayable. This also fills out UG merfolks bag of tricks pretty well. The deck is already pretty low cmc wise and maybe a 2-2 split with this and spell pierce will make the deck strong enough via permission to compete. It's potentially blossoming defense/deep dive's protection during combat and it's a general hard answer outside of it...seems modal enough to at least try. Maybe a merfolk/pummeler UG energy brew >_>.
I'm glad it's not uncommon, because that would show up enough to become obnoxious in formats where that matters.
I dont know if it's modern playable, but could be? I'm not sure this beats dispel, swan song, stubborn denial, spell snare, etc. where you want one of these other 1 cmc counters, but Stubbs looks terrible on paper for the format and GDS rocks 4. Maybe this is stronger than it looks.
This is stronger than it looks, IMO. Unless you have good reason to, remember to cast your sorcery-speed spells in your post-combat main phase. It's not so hot at stopping opposing game-winning spells, but I can see Legacy decks like Food Chain and Aluren attack with a dumb creature, then force their namesake spells through counter walls with this.

Sounds sideboard-y, maybe against Settle the Wreckage
How good is this going to be compared to Lookout's Dispersal that is almost always going to cost 1U?

Wizards are trying to make people play Cancel in Standard, and you've to applaud them for giving small motivations/payoffs to do so.
