Yeah, that's the problem. You jump through a fairly large hoop to make this an Allosaurus Rider (which, if you look at the rest of the cycle, Soulscour -> Day of Judgment, Fury of the Horde -> Relentless Assault, should probably cost about 4 mana without the alt cost), and then you don't really get anything else for the hoop you jumped through.

You can only have one copy of each non-basic land in your deck. It would go nicely in a land-based EDH theme of that sort.
Pretty linear and restrictive in what it does. It becomes a huge beast that's easily chumped at its height.

Land based decks mostly uses basic land cards because they are easier to ramp, making this card worse. Its jsut a run of the mill beater.It has plenty of stronegr competition if you want one. Sorry but no, its not usefull in edh. No all cards are good in edh and this one isn't. Unless someone finds a secret tech for it.
Useless in EDH you mean... a vanilla 20/20 for 4 would still be chumped all day and do nothing to advance the board. This is why Goyf is terrible in EDH as well.
I feel like this could have been costed at 2 and still have been pretty mediocre. Because at that point all it would do, mostly, is scale on curve with each land drop you play. Assuming you played a forest turn one and then a plains and this turn two it would be a 2/2. Then you would have to play a land with a different name each turn for this to continue to grow to stay relevant.
Actually, I might be going a little too far here, but considering that because this is both an artifact and a creature, and is therefore the most fragile combination of types in the game, and that it's very hard to make it large, I honestly think this could have been costed at 1 and have been reasonable in power level. I mean... You could still chump this thing all day, you can easily block and kill it if dropped early game and late game it would just be a big cheap vanilla if you can even get the lands and also... What kind of deck are you playing this in that plays that many differently named lands anyhow? And how many creature and artifact removal cards do we have again?
I'm not just moaning and saying this is terrible or anything I'm just saying that it at least would have looked cool and interesting at 1 or 2 mana.

I'm going to be keeping my eye on this card in modern. Between the large number of fetch lands and dual lands, this could act as as a scaling beater that actively benefits from "ambitious" mana bases... especially for decks without goyf or shadow.
I'll admit that it's probably too slow, though there may be a jeskai control deck looking for this.
It is rather boring, but at least it does it's boring in a slightly different way than we've seen in the past, and that's good enough for me. I feel like this could have been 3 mana though.
I usually don't immediately dismiss cards but for Standard this is really bad. Its floor is a vanilla 4/4 for 4 which for which multiple answers exist (Abrade, Dissenter's Deliverance, Fatal Push, etc) which means that even if it becomes a 7/7 it still won't do much of anything.
Should be decent enough in Limited/Sealed, though, because almost no artifact hate exists in XLN.
Nobody? Karn EDH, anyone? Still not the best thing ever, but funny at least.
Maybe in the days before wastelands where Colorless EDH had to run non basics but now? not a chance in the nine hells. This thing is unplayable in every format.
It's a junk rare. A 4 mana artifact creature that requires having several named lands to even be remotely good, and even then doesn't have trample and can be hit by abrade? Metalwork Colossus doesn't see a whole lot of play right now and that card is far better.

The way people here talk, you'd think it was impossible to give it Trample or something. "Needs Trample" is up there with "dies to Doom Blade" for most overused and pointless Magic criticism ever. No, it doesn't need Trample because not every big creature needs trample because that eliminates the point of chump blocking. Jeez, it's like people here have an automated response to anything with power/cmc 4+ of "No Trample? JAAAANK!"
Having vented that, I do concur that it will go great in Commander though it would also be interesting to see what kind of Standard deck you can build with it. I know it's blasphemy to most spikes to play with anything less than full sets, but then again if spikes got to decide the course of the game based on what they find blasphemous we'd still be playing the same old Counterspell and Lightning Bolt decks after all these years.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

Please don't kid yourself. Not everything is worth defending. I have no idea how this card will be in standard but in commander its garbage. Tell me what aplications it have to make it "great" in commander? I'm not a spike player btw, im a timym and feel that this card is bad and boring.

Cards with potentially big power are welcome in Ghalta, Primal Hunger EDH, but we have options for 3 power for 1 mana, 5 power for 2 mana, 6 power for 3 mana and 8 power for 4 mana. It seems underwhelming.
Rhonas Monument, Rancor, fling, Momentous Fall, Life's Legacy, greater good, Ghalta, Primal Hunger. The list goes on fatty creatures is in green blood but theres plenty of ways to abuse this creature
