That's really funny if they truly are randomized (which I kind of doubt, but really want to believe).
If they are random, then I have to believe that somewhere out there, the perfect version exists

I wonder if it's almost an attempt to show off what it was like in the 'old days' of Magic? LIke, when there was no good universal knowledge of what's out there and you could discover new cards from someone else and not be able to get them anywhere else. With enough random options, it could easily be the case that it would be difficult-to-impossible for one website to stock all possible versions of a card.

my guess it's there are 4 versions, so that in your deck you can have one of each. Yeah, I know in limited you can have as many as you want, I'm talking constructed. cos un-construted is going to be a thing.

This is also likely a nod to the chaos after the decision to make Cryptic Command a textless promo. Even playing in that Standard environment and seeing it every tournament, most people at the time could not remember all four modes, let alone the correct order they appeared in for resolution. Having different versions with different abilities is a great bit of nostalgic humor on many levels, well done WotC.
My problem is that i ordered a complete set from SCG, and I have this sinking feeling I wont get each card, only 1 of each version now... and there will be one more desired or rarer than the others. I wonder how theyre gonna handle this. I hope I get all versions (since normally if someone gets a complete set of say Fallen Empires from a store, they get all art versions as well) but I just hope they can let us people with preorders know.

I like that they also used the sketch art provided by the now-late Wayne England, and added a mode in honor of him. I'm guessing he died while he was being commissioned to do this piece.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Is WOTC forcing some unbearable hardship on people who choose to collect all the different versions of something? Should they refrain from making the game more fun for everyone else because collecting all the different versions will be more difficult for people whose chosen hobby is...collecting all the different versions? You'd figure it'd be just one more fun aspect of that hobby. Just does not compute.

Its quite possible they are entirely randomized from a poof of abilities. Maro said the set was exploring some of the possibilities of digital printing, and it might be that we have cards with alternate art versions with same text but different watermark (secret base), cards with multiple distinct versions of the text (ineffable blessing), and cards that are generated at random at printing (very cryptic command). Or it could just be a rather large number of multiple distinct versions, who knows
Target Minotaur reminds me of Antiquities when they first experimented with alternate art. Having different functionality is certainly a new one especially with each version of Very Cryptic Command.
Looks like one of the other variant cards is Curious Killbot. Someone posted a draft decklist that had "Enraged Killbot" with the same stats and collector's number. He said there were at least three total versions they saw in the draft. I'm a fan of this because I thought it was weird Mary O'Kill only interacted with a single creature in the set (okay, and Dr. Julius Jumblemorph, you got me)
There's also a third Ineffable Blessing that cares about White vs Silver borders

Unstable is great. Truly, the best thing to come out of MTG for some time.
I'm pretty curious how those very cryptic commands are being printed. So far each has had four distinct abilities with makes at least 20 abilities. That's certainly something. It's sort of the opposite of the Urza planeswalker, and I like it far better. Since none of the abilities are shared, I doubt it is randomized. It is more likely there is a specific number of them. Perhaps just these four.
FYI, there are already five different VCCs, including the very first one.
I kinda like how the most criticized for being "boring" cards turned out to be more interesting.
More important: does anybody know how to turn creature over?
1) There is a version of Secret Base for each of the five watermarked factions
2) Ineffable Blessing has at least one alternate mode that lets you choose between odd or even collector number
3) There are apparently multiple versions of Target Minotaur (likely artistic changes only) and a few others.
