On the lack of Killbots, not every legend is meant for Commander. RB also got a buttload (bolt-load?) of very playable commanders to play with compared to pretty much every other colour combo (UB got two cool ones, GW and RG got one each and UW has 0 if you don't count Calcutron), and the other RB ones do more interesting things than just come into play for stupid cheap and be annoying to kill. I'm betting she wasn't originally a legend either, they may have just slapped the tag on her to emphasize the evil villain theme and come up with a cool flavour story for the wonky Ninjutsu-esque mechanic they made for this card.
Spy Eye is amazing, another interesting combo is Half-Kitten-Half Rocket there is also the Gnome made engine (its weird Half-Kitten I think is the best thing to apply to hosts)
Half-Squirrel, Half- is arguably even more bonkers considering it applies to all nontoken creatures entering, not just your own.
Forget drafting, it makes her unplayable almost everywhere. Use her as an un-commander with only one Killbot in your 99? Or 4 of your 60 in casual constructed? Sure, there are Changelings, but that's such a lame, theme-breaking solution. I was really excited to build around Mary as a commander, and now there's almost no appeal. It's a total bummer.
The sad part is that they could have fixed this just by giving Curious Killbot the same "A deck can have any number of cards named [this]" ability that Relentless Rats and Shadowborn Apostle have. Sure, Curious Killbot is pretty lame in EDH, or even 60 card casual, but at least then people who want to run Mary would actually have the option, even if it's not the greatest option.
So I was deckcrafting a Crossbreed labs deck, and I realized that guild has basically zero ways to generate contraptions. They have.... First pick? That's literally the only card in that faction that assembles contraptions. That's a pretty massive fail imo. You can go into blue to get some good assemblage going, but blue isn't crossbreed labs and I want to stay W/G. There should have been an ETB assemble card for Widget, so at least I could stay in white... Why even have crossbreed contraptions at all if you can barely make them???

Was just about to mention that. They could have easily given The Calcutron a commander clause like the planeswalkers from Commander 2014. Or at least given them partner in order to have a more consistent EDH deck made from only silver-bordered cards.

Maybe because their priority is creature augmentation? I was thinking the same thing and it seems like WU and RG are the main contraption making factions in Unstable. I also find that the RG faction were the only ones without a unique creature type? Widget has cyborg, S.N.E.A.K. has spy, Doom has villain, and Crosslabs have scientist.

This feels like it's deliberately talking past the point that the lack of Killbots also makes Mary a very feelbad card in Limited, which they claimed to have worked to ensure a very smooth drafting environment for Unstable so... the result is Mary is lame in Commander AND the format MaRo insisted they went out of their way to tune the set for, not just Commander.
Weird how they spoiled the entire set on a wednesday and not a friday. Usually they spoil the entire set at the end of a week. Any reason they did it early?

I'm now equally anxious for that Oracle update. I want all the silver-borders to finally be updated to know their viability in the upcoming Un-formats! Hopefully these Un-formats will have a significant restricted/banned list in order for games to not get too out of control or wacky.

blah blah some quote about suck it up butter cup they're not obliged to let you build what you want
but they are obliged to make themes and aspects of their game... viable
i mean, a good example is steamflogger boss. that was so great previously to open, build around, and draft right?
edit: i originally quoted the wrong post. sorry. too lazy to find the real one to fix it. it was supposed to be quoting the one about only one killbot.
I would have much preferred if the commons were all black border cards but with funny art like a unart version of Lightning Bolt. I can see Abattoir Ghoul being a zombie cow in a butcher's gear smiling. It would still be the same card but with funny art and flavour text. I mean they can do that as each rarity has its own print sheet. They can make all the rares and uncommons silver bordered. I mean how cool would a funny art version of sleight of hand or counter spell? It would also raise the vaule of the set too.
Dude, people are mad about the four-ish silver-bordered cards that are basically just black-bordered cards with funny flavor to them. Cutting half the set to do high-value reprints would piss off basically everyone.
The designers would hate it because what's the point of doing a silver-bordered set where you get to stretch mechanics and mess with things if the theme of the set can't be at common?
The developers would hate it because adding black border means it actually has to be sort of balanced, and combining that with silver-borders is a nightmare.
The people who wanted a silver-border set would be mad because half the set isn't silver bordered and actually doing anything goofy or fun.
And the people who want reprints would be mad because it's good magic cards with bad art. People complain about the regular Magic art, you think this would fly over any better?
Not to mention your proposed Abbatoir Ghoul art would make it a different creature type. It would at the very least, Zombie Minotaur, because the art is kind of intrinsically tied to creature type and abilities, and sure a zombie butcher cow is funny, but that's clearly not a human zombie, which is the only kind of zombie that just gets the creature type Zombie.

Calcutron did have the Commander text originally. They just ran out of room in the text box. It has MaRo approved errata for that to be the case. (Plus, Un-Commander is the most casual of casual, so if you just talk to your playgroup, I'm sure they'd let it in anyways.)

If it has MaRo approved errata and it was originally intended to be used as a commander, then maybe it will be officially errata-ed in the next Oracle update upon the release of Unstable. Or they could've just made it a Legendary Artifact Creature - Cyborg Contraption and be done with it.
If The Grand Calcutron was errata-ed to be usable as a commander, they should do the same with the Nephilim.

Un sets are allowed functional errata. Hence, what happened with Ordinary Pony. Black border sets do not have that luxury. But again, if your playgroup is fun, you can just have the nephilim as your commander. Just ask somebody.

I kind of disagree. Many black-bordered cards have been given functional errata in the past. They try to avoid having to do any functional errata but it still happens. It happened as recently as the last set with Hostage Taker.

Sorry for the double post, but I just noticed that the art for the booster box for Unstable is not in any card of the set. Could this be another hidden card like Super Secret Tech?

I'm trying to find hints in everything. For example, the multicolored cards aren't in alphabetical order; Mary O'Kill comes after X instead of in between Hot Fix and Ol' Buzzbark.

In this case it's just that hybrid cards always come separated from the regular multicolored cards. Nothing unusual.

They gave me a few good cards to go fetch when the set lands. I really like Crow Storm as Storm Crow was my first flier I ever played in magic. By Gnome Means is great for any deck that plays with tokens, Split Screen is just hilariously broken when used with Vizier of the menagerie or Courser of Kruphix and I like Extremely Slow Zombie just because the ability seems like something that could actually exist in a non-silver bordered set.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...

Especially since one of the cards has protection from black bordered cards.
But from anyway next up Jurassic park mtg edition part two,
Actually according to MaRo's "Official Blogatog Errata" it can be, and considering that MaRo is the un-rules manager...
Half-Squirrel, Half- is arguably even more bonkers considering it applies to all nontoken creatures entering, not just your own.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Hardly, even less so in "Future Sight 2.0." You're complaining about a one-off in a set packed with them.
