This set is a home run. Those finding it boring are off their rockers...
Dinosaurs are boring? How? Just because they have some vanilla dinos? Cmon...they gave us a TON of dinosaurs - more than I expected so OF COURSE some of them are going to be vanilla. But we got some awesome Enrage dinosaurs which is a flavor homerun for a mechanic AND they made sure there was a bunch of ways to activate it. We have dinosaurs eating and fighting things, both depicted on cards. We have dinosaurs that represent three elements of the sun which is a seriously cool take on them, we have feathered dinos in a beautiful array - a great blend of science and artistic license. we have dinosaur tutors and we have giant, scary, trampling, vigilant, hasty dinosaurs that puke out more dinosaurs. Dinosaurs that are trample and hexproof that can't be countered. That's terrifying. We got dinosaurs that highlight how they hunt in packs. We even got baby dinosaurs that call their mommy dinosaur when you bad touch it. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?!
Non-flavorfully, we got dinosaurs that ramp land, dinosaurs that draw you cards, dinosaurs that deal direct damage, dinosaurs that pump others, dinosaurs that gain you life, and dinosaurs that trade deal power based on toughness. Honestly, what is boring about any of that and what in the world could possibly be done to keep them from being boring if not all that?!
Besides all of this, the art is OUTSTANDING - colorful, exciting, and visceral in a couple cases...but that is just my opinion.
Oh, and I haven't even started on the Pirate train - the pirates are ANYTHING but boring as well. They did an amazing job using the game mechanics to depict looting, pillaging, and organization within such a diverse group of creatures. The pirates absolutely feel like the rag-tag group that shouldn't be threatening but because of their tenacity and ruthlessness, they are a force to be considered. The steal treasure, they steal people, they kill things viciously, the burn stuff to the ground, they fire catapults from their ships, their organized despite feeling all over the place individually...Wizards did a great job. Importantly, they don't just feel like re-purposed warriors.
Honestly, vampires are the most boring thing here because despite the fact that the color on the card is white, they don't do anything that we haven't already seen.
Basically, same thing goes for the merfolk. But, with them, at least they have a unique and beautiful appearance and their whole thing is that they are supposed to be hidden and mysterious. I'm guessing that they will come further to the forefront in Rivals...
TLDR: I don't see how anyone can think this set, or it's two new tribes, could be thought of as boring or poor execution.
Also, I must say I'm a bit disappointed by the merfolk. As a fan of both merfolk and green-blue as well as counters in general, the tribe seems rather... incoherent? They seem a bit like an afterthought.
Timmy builds Gishath.
Timmy is forced to include chaff like Sun-Crowned Hunters to fill out slots.
Timmy goes to Commander Night at his local LGS and gets run the @#$% over by anyone playing halfway competently.
Timmy takes Gishath apart.
This is why EDH is supposed to be the casual format. Besides, in multiplayer, you don't necessarily want the best deck or you'll probably be the first knocked out.
Oh, a new cycle of "keepers", which are like invokers but they die. These might be useful in limited, but only if it's really battlecruiser.
I like Storm Sculptor. It kinda reminds me of how back during an Innistrad prerelease, I cast Furor of the Bitten on Invisible Stalker. This is slower, and doesn't have hexproof, but I suppose it's cute. In any event, Animar will like it.
Demolish reprint? Strictly worse Despoil? What is it with this game and bad land destruction?
Blossom Dryad, the Ley Druid reprint. Man, when they said they were pulling ramp back...(To be fair, they have an enchantment that transforms into a Cradle in this block, so I get it.)
Contract Killing is one of those cards I might use in EDH, but probably won't. It doesn't trigger the way Corpsehatch does.
A lot of these green merfolk are "At worst, it's a perfectly acceptable limited card with a bonus."
I was seriously expecting Jungle Delver to be something like "At the beginning of your upkeep, look at the top card of your library. If it's an enchantment, transform Jungle Delver." But 1/1 for G with bad Daily Regimen attached is limited-playable.
Ritual of Rejuvenation is being considered for lifegain decks, only because it's a cantrip.
Queen's Commission is, not bad, but worse Midnight Haunting (albeit not strictly worse), I'm pretty sure. Will see limited play, likely not constructed.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
As far as the average set goes this one is alright. There are quite a few cards that will make an impact on standard and a few possible modern playables as well. This set kind of reminds me of the original Zendikar in a way. I think it should be pretty good.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Blossom Dryad, the Ley Druid reprint. Man, when they said they were pulling ramp back...
Do note that Ley Druid (and its actual clone, Juniper Order Druid, though Junie was given an additional type at a later date) are just 1/1s. Blossom Dryad is a 2/2.
Sadly, many dino decks are more than likely going to be the same until Explorers of Ixalan (possible reprints), and Rivals of Ixalan (new dinos) come out.

Okay, fair enough. They're still pulling ramp back, though, considering Voyaging Satyr exists. And I do think it's because we have a Cradle variant.

Such a boring set and I can't remember the last time we've seen so many (functional) reprints in a regular set.
This set looks so bad that I won't even watch free Draft videos. I guess MaRo spends his time trading crypto instead of making new cards. That's why we see so many (french) vanillas.
B-but muh limited!
I'm glad we got cancel again, this one never gets old.

Dinosaurs are boring? How? Just because they have some vanilla dinos? Cmon...they gave us a TON of dinosaurs - more than I expected so OF COURSE some of them are going to be vanilla. We have dinosaurs eating and fighting things, both depicted on cards.
Honestly, I'd just let the set speak for itself when the cards get thrown out into the wilderness. I try not to take too much stock in the opinions made during spoiler season unless the set in question is Battle of Zendikar-tier horrible (which I don't think this is).
Heartless Pillage getting a treasure token makes it 2 mana for two card discard with Raid. Useful with Waste Not if the opponent discards at least one land, then you have 3 mana back.
Blossom Dryad, the Ley Druid reprint. Man, when they said they were pulling ramp back...

1 more power for one more cost isn't much of a pull-back. They just printed a 2-mana land-untapper last set (Hope Tender; it costs 1 to activate but if the goal is untapping your nuCradle that's peanuts).
If they printed this because they thought Voyaging Satyr was too strong, I'd say it's less about the nuCradle and more about sharing a limited with New Horizons.
I am disappointed by this set mostly because I was expecting a Meso-American set: Warriors dressed as Jaguars and crazy Skull Shamans sacrificing people on top of the pyramids to please their God, instead we got Pirates vs Dinosaurs set. Meh.

TLDR: I don't see how anyone can think this set, or it's two new tribes, could be thought of as boring or poor execution.
"Good" Dinosaurs (Strong, exploitable cards that attack from an angle other than the "six/six beatdown plan" by abusing Enrage, or cheap dinosaurs that do stuff to the opponent and demand an answer): Kinjalli's Sunwing, Bellowing Aegisaur, Wakening Sun's Avatar, Burning Sun's Avatar, Rampaging Ferocidon, Raptor Hatchling, Taurean Mauler, Chameleon Colossus, Ranging Raptors, Ripjaw Raptor, Raging Swordtooth, Regisaur Alpha. We have 12 total here, which is not super inspiring but could be worse.
"Medium" Dinosaurs (Dinosaurs that do more than just beatdown, but are a bit more awkward than the above): Mirror Entity, Steadfast Armasaur, Carnage Tyrant, Deathgorge Scavenger, Snapping Sailback, Thundering Spineback, Verdant Sun's Avatar, Sun-blessed Mount, Metallic Mimic, Adaptive Automaton. 10 more! Mirror Entity is normally better but since your tokens start at 3/3 and your creatures are large, it is less good here. Probably being a bit overgenerous on Steadfast Armasaur, but I also think any Dinosaur deck that has any chance is going to be abusing Pyrohemia/Triskelion/Walking Ballista + Rite of Passage (or the Aegisaur) so it can get pretty large. Sun-blessed Mount is five mana to draw a card, since I assume this deck always runs both Huatlis.
"Mediocre" Dinosaurs: Aggressively costed French vanillas or extremely slow other dinosaurs that are worth running to hit a critical mass for Gishath or Kindred Summoning but feel bad, man. First on the chopping block when Rivals arrives. Goring Ceratops, Terratorial Hammerskull, Charging Monstrosaur, Sun-crowned Hunters, Fungusaur, Ravenous Daggertooth, Sky Terror, Brass Herald. That's 8 to bring us to 30 dinosaurs, although three aren't dinosaurs in the deck which is sad for Gishath.
All the other dinosaurs are awful for EDH, although Imperial Aerosaur, Bonded Horncrest, Ripscale Predator, Imperiosaur, and Colossal Dreadmaw are the best of the dregs since at least they are not utterly inefficient threats to hit off of Gishath.
RCRDaretti: Superfriends Forever RCR

Pounce, for when you're in EDH and find yourself not playing red.
I like Bonded Lookout. The game has a history of Juzám Djinn variants, and this one looks like Goblin Lackey's big brother.
Headstrong Brute will be a limited bomb.
We had Naturalize, we had Crushing Vines, we had Return to the Earth, and now we have Crushing Canopy.
I want to, just once, sac Sadbot to Costly Plunder.
