Even if people do build dino EDH, they'd all be building largely the same dino EDH. There aren't enough cards in the tribe yet to have really different builds. Always a problem with plane-centric tribes.
Timmy builds Gishath.
Timmy is forced to include chaff like Sun-Crowned Hunters to fill out slots.
Timmy goes to Commander Night at his local LGS and gets run the @#$% over by anyone playing halfway competently.
Timmy takes Gishath apart.

Well, we got a freaking Trilobite. A whole new creature type invented for a single measly common, when it could easily have been an insect or whatever. That sounds rather strange, doesn't it? Maybe Muraganda is closer than we think...
Such a boring set and I can't remember the last time we've seen so many (functional) reprints in a regular set.
This set looks so bad that I won't even watch free Draft videos. I guess MaRo spends his time trading crypto instead of making new cards. That's why we see so many (french) vanillas.
Wahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
God why are people like you allowed to post. So tired of these troll ***** posts on MtGS.
Anyways this set is pretty great, lots of fun EDH cards and a solid flavor filled home run.

"People are the worst. The worst thing about music is that people play it." - Mike Patton
Man, this set has a TON of functional reprints. Like, enough that I have to assume they did it on purpose. Some new strategy they're trying? Or did they all just take a lot of extra long lunches? Maybe they're trying to make LR obsolete?
Not that having functional reprints means it will be less fun to play, but it does make reading spoilers a bit less exciting.
I was playtesting Sun-Crowned Hunters in my Marath, Will of the Wild EDH. Enrage seemed to be a great ability with Marath second option. 1, remove a +1/+1 counter from it: Choose one
- Deal 3 damage to an opponent or a planeswalker he/she controls
- search your library for a basic land card
- draw a card
- put a +1/+1 counter on all creatures you control (except Bellowing Aegisaur)
You know what? The power level of commons and uncommons of Ixalan looks surprisingly high. I am genuinely hyped for Limited play - less Limited bombs, more strong core workhorses. Bishop's Soldier - I was hoping for a plain and simple common white Vampire with lifelink, something like 2/1, but... A BEAR? Hoooo boy. Demystify - it has been a long time... Erase is stil better though. Inspiring Cleric - who said lifegain sucks? 4 life PLUS 3/2 body for 2W like Bastion Enforcer is fair enough. Pious Interdiction - as a Timmy, I hate to play against Pacifism-style control, so I feel good about seeing a power level of creature hate a bit lower than usual (will be played anyway of course but maybe not so often). Skyblade of the Legion - I remember Makindi Aeronaut being a god tier flying blocker, so does this guy. Though the power level of flying creatures in Ixalan is higher than it was in BFZ. Territorial Hammerskull will be extremely annoying - strictly better Master of Diversion with relevant creature type is always welcome. Air Elemental - YES. YES. YES. The only one better flying uncommon creature with such stats and cost I can remember was Ominous Sphinx. Would like to see as common but I know, I'm asking for too much. One With the Wind - Ooooh, and I thought Senseless Rage was a good Limited card! Storm Sculptor - you know, this is the chaspest creature with such ETB effect which is something. I remember Subjugator Angel being a Limited finisher, so... Costly Plunder is just strictly better Altar's Reap. Enough said. Dual Shot - it was hands-down my favorite red one-drop in SOI Limited (and I always played Red and have no regrets). I think I know what to play again... Fathom Fleet Firebrand - YOOOOOO, remember how Red had no Bears 1,5 years ago? Now Red can have Bears with upsides! Frenzied Raptor - YOOOOOO, and Alpine Grisly was a decent green (!) common in Tarkir Limited... Nest Robber - damn it feels good to see Goblin Piker WITH haste and WITHOUT downsides as a common, finally. Storm Fleet Pyromancer - a bit more costly Mardu Heart-Piercer with more relevant stats and lower rarity... I'll give it a try. Swashbuckling - remember what I said about One With the Wind? Still true. Blossom Dryad - interesting choice for a set with all these crazy transform lands, I like it. Colossal Dreadmaw - on the same power level with Brambleweft Behemoth which is strictly better than Cowl Prowler and Kessig Dire Swine but with more relevant creature type than Elemental which makes it the best one among similar cards. Jade Guardian - hexproof and 3/3 for 3G as a common, hello again Primal Huntbeast, I'll take all, thank you.
And need to say, the cycle of Keepers is not bad at all. Especially Trilobite one - well, you know, Ancestral Recall in late game and for 8 mana is still Ancestral Recall...
I haven't gone through the entire list yet--still missing things like Firecannon Blast--6 damage for only 3 mana, albeit at sorcery speed in your second main phase? That is still pretty darned good.
I hate to say it, but Garbage Fire even for 8 damage was, you know... Garbage fire? Because creatures only and even straightforward creature killing spell is not a big deal for 3 mana. Also sorcery.
Well, early-spoiled Dragonskull Summit told us Angrath was a Planeswalker. There's been a minotaur head on one of the Ixalan pack arts. And the Story article from two days ago spelled it out (it never used the word "Minotaur" but "the body of a blacksmith, but the head of ... a bull?"
Only thing of eye popping interest are the double faced cards. Kinda sad how they made PIRATES and DINOSAURS very boring overrall. Won't even get to merfolks because they are just sad...Vampires are saved because they have quite some interesting cards for Edgar Markov.

I suspect it won't be that amazing. Damage after raid is significantly less useful because anything big you wanted to kill may have already been used in combat to eat your attackers, putting you down a card. If you have evasion it might be more exciting, though.
Ah, the usual "this set sucks" as a wave of commons is finally spoiled.
During all preview time, people were excited by gret rare pirates, vampires and dinos. During that time we got enraging dino that grow, draw cards and ramp, combo vampire and great raid cards. Now that all new cards are the common and uncommon limited fillers. Of course you were underwhelmed. The goods cards were already previewed.
Come back in two weeks when decks pop up and everyone claim they'd called it.

I was looking at it from a "damage per mana" perspective. Abrade and Strike are 3 dmg/2 mana but this can be 6 dmg/3 mana, which is more efficient since 2 > 1.5. Besides, there are enough larger creatures now so 3 damage may not be enough. Of course, in Standard for removing big creatures we still have significantly better options.
I am trying to figure out how pirates are "boring", though. Pirates who create treasure tokens, pirates who loot or explore upon entering the battlefield, pirates who exile other creatures, pirates which drain everyone for one-third their life total--that is pretty far from vanilla or boring. That being said, not everyone has to agree here so no one needs to justify their opinions.

Yeah, there are lots of synergies here that don't seem to click immediately for everybody.
People are wondering what the Merfolk "thing" is, but it's clearly +1/+1 counters.
Pirates, Merfolk, and Dinos all feel stronger than a lot of other posters seem to think they are.
It's not like those decks would have *only* creature cards of the appropriate type.

There's already precent for 6 creature damage for 1RR - spitebellows. And it didn't need raid and had the alternate mode of being a creature.
Anyway I'm guessing it'll still be a solid card in limited. Nothing crazy, though, likely a C+ would be my guess. The RR casting cost and low damage if you can't reasonably trigger raid are pretty harsh penalties, even if the top end of killing a fat dino for just 3 mana is pretty big.

Maybe we'll get some Modern cards in the next Commander set.
In before somebody says, "But, Opt..."
I play Magic: the Gathering, not Magic: the Commandering.
No only 12% are crawl wurm
The other factor is ones with nothing but evergreen abilities.
I wasn't super-excited about this set to begin with but after just completing my (open-minded) initial skim-through, I'm left with a similar feeling.
Ah well, enjoy it everyone.
