I like my basic lands to say "Basic Land - [land type]. I'll be passing on these. It's too bad, as I like the frames here better than the Zendikar ones. Just needed those few words somewhere.

I'm actually mistified as to why they need to have the name up there at all when the exact same design with the Zendikar/Amonkhet Basic Land - Type typeline and mana symbol on the bottom gives you all the info you need and is miles more aesthetic.
The plains and mountain look very wonky to me where the name is. Just something about that banner that it doesn't match the artork very well. the forest is a little better and the island and the swamp have the best layout because the banner is the least noticeable. As far as artwork goes, I really like the forest art
These are so slick and beautiful. The only thing I could have asked for was for all the lands to panorama together when out side by side but hey, I'm not complaining one bit

Can you imagine if they actually allowed other artists making land like this? I'd love these done by Terese Nielsen. Heck these are already amazing too! Mmm Foil Forests for the Elf deck!! OR THE SQUIRREL DECK!!

I'd probably like them more if they were from a different artist. Just not a fan of Avon. Therese Nielsen, Noah Bradley, Rob Alexander. I'd much prefer just about anyone actually.
Will it be one in each pack? What's your projection of their foil/nonfoil price upon release?
Not quite one in each pack. Steamflogger Boss can be in the land slot because it's a "legal" card. But it'll be pretty infrequent.
The value is weird. People buy un-set boosters for one of three reasons: For nothing but the fun of it, For a draft, Or for the land. Since the only card with "value" outside of collecting in each booster is the land (and boss), expect this to happen: The non foil lands will have a value of around the cost of the booster for a while. Boosters will be opened, but nothing like the quantity that a normal set sees being opened. The set won't see a second print run, and booster prices will drop to fire-sale levels while stores try to shift the stock. The value of the lands will go to a very low point as people buy ultra cheap boosters, and the set will dry up fairly quick after this point. After that, the prices will gradually rise, "value" should be restored by 12-18 months post dry up. Beyond that, the prices should keep going up slowly. This is pretty much what's happened to every Un-set, and was why Hasbro were so resistant to making another. I guess the only wrinkle in the theory is if it's actually really fun and good to draft, and people draft the heck out of it.
Foils will be *very* valuable from day one, and probably see no dip.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Why do they have the rare foil sticker on the bottom? Ugh I hate that thing, I purposely try to buy older variants of cards to avoid that sticker. I thought these lands were common? Why are they rare?
Might be an authentication sticker rather than a rarity sticker. As these and steamflogger boss are the only "black" bordered cards.
I'm more interested in how this demonstrates their ability to print art to the edge. There's been examples in the past, but I always wondered why they kept the border when they could enlarge everything on the card if they removed it.
That said, these lands are great, though I would have preferred the old token brass name plaque instead of a colored bar for the land name.

They have the dot because Steamflogger boss is on the same sheet as the lands. It's probably easier to set it up to just dot everything on a sheet.

I'm in love. They're so indescribably pretty. I can't wait to get foils.
