Didn't developers say they'd be hit by a bus before they reprint Mana Drain?
Guess someone was unlucky.
That was meant more specifically for a normal standard set if I recall the reference. Reprint sets that don't affect which formats such cards can be played in wouldn't count towards that obviously :p.
That card only sees play on VINTAGE and on some multiplayer commander lists. Blergh.
Based on this comment, and maybe three or four others already, expressing displeasure about these choices, I'd make the suggestion that Iconic Masters (not "competitive masters" or "sees tournament play masters") isn't made for you. No harm in that, but there's no need for you to fill this thread with negativity either.
These are stonking reprints.
Mana drain is super hot for commander. Amazing art as well.
I will only address you because mods already said we shouldn't discuss what should or should not be reprinted.
First, I made one single comment about mana drain, based on my dislike of reprinting old cards that see play nowhere, even if they are expensive. All other comments of 'negativity' was myself defending my stance in face of people who are happy with the reprint of a card that most magic players will never use. That and kamigawa dragons, who definitely didn't need another printing.
Besides that, I like some of the reprints, and said just now that the set is a mixed bag. Why do you feel entitled to tell me that I should or should not express my opinion just because it is a negative one? Should I only speak if it is to join the hype?
That's the end of that discussion for me.
You must be selectively remembering your own posts. It was you right, posting the gif of the table flip?
That was my point. It's not adding anything to the discussion. You'd have been better off not saying anything, or maybe having a go at phrasing your opinion in a critical, useful way wherever possible.
And I wasn't being entitled. It's a common thread among populations in general for people to complain about stuff that's not for them, and I saw about four, maybe five of your posts when scrolling through this thread of fairly empty "this is rubbish" sorts of statements. I was just making the point that maybe this one's not appealing to your demographic, whatever that may be, and that there's no reason to be overly negative or dismissive about the set. That was all. No hidden agenda there.
Anyway like you said, this isn't a discussion. I'll let you get on either your day. (You don't get to automatically have the last word calling me entitled though haha, that's not how this works).
Absolutely love the updated art on the kamigawa dragons! Really want a foil of kokusho, he's an old friend of mine. Many stories to tell.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
Feel like they dropped the ball on the commons. Do we really need so much stuff from RTR-KTK blocks? Couldn't we get a bunch of great CHEAP commons/uncommons that you can't get non-foil in non-toilet paper condition anymore like Diabolic Edict, Forbid, Capsize, Withering Boon, Skyshroud Claim, Vitalize, Wild Growth, etc.?
Not surprised the three chase P3K rares aren't in this set, but I do hope they're in M25.
The fact neither Demonic Tutor nor Lightning Bolt are in this set is mind boggling. They're two of the most iconic cards in Magic.
Rishadan Port and Doubling Season should hopefully be in M25, but I think they both would've fit here. I'm also a bit surprised that Phyrexian Obliterator isn't here with the Praetor theme. I'm also shocked that one of the most iconic demons, Griselbrand, isn't in this set.
Overall, there are some really exciting and awesome cards, some snubs, but a ton for EDH fans.
Do we know if Flusterstorm has old or new art? Has anyone seen it?
Edit: Just realized that they probably made Hatebears/D&T an actual budget deck in Modern. Vial and Canopy were the most expensive cards by far (except for builds with Noble Hierarch).

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.

This set looks exactly like every other Masters set: a handful of chase rares and mythics to get the fanboys hyped, a few 'break even' cards, mostly chaff. Uncommon and common are 95% unplayable. Missing some of the most iconic cards for no good reason.
It's almost like Iconic Masters has nothing to do with what is actually 'iconic' and the name is just a marketing strategy! I wouldn't be surprised for a second if it was initially called Eternal Masters 2017 before Marketing stepped in.

Same art.
If you have Twitter, check the feed of Hipster's of the Coast . They're either posting directly or retweeting everyone else who is. Flusterstorm has been shown.

I always find it curious that people take such issue with complaints and criticisms about spoiled sets "not adding anything to the discussion" but have no problem with the endless completely worthless "OMG THIS CARD IS IN THE SET I NEED TO BUY A BOX RIGHT NOW!!!!" posts.
Also, where are all the hydras? I might be missing some cards, but not counting the Kamigawa cycle, I saw 5 angels, 3 sphinxes, 4.5 demons, 7.5 dragons, and only 3 hydras, none of which were particularly in need of a reprint. No Khalni, Kalonian, or Primordial Hydra? No Progenitus?
I can definitely think of a few angels and dragons that I would have liked to see as well. Sigarda's first card would have been nice, as well as Firemane Angel (okay, so that doesn't need a reprint either, but it could get away with being uncommon), Balefire Dragon, Thunderbreak Regent (could possibly also be uncommon), and Dragon Broodmother. I might even be missing some.
This is probably the first masters set i will purchase due to all the new art. But one card that REALLY needed a new art with a regular border that wotc missed the boat on, Consecrated Sphinx. Why keep that butt ugly art?
Also, does the inclusion of Lightning Helix make Lightning Bolt (and Lava Spike) unlikely now?
If demonic tutor is in this it's not mythic.
It's not in at rare either. The full rare 53 is up on Twitter, and it ain't there. I strongly suspect it's not in this set at all.
Guess someone was unlucky.
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control
Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun WU Unblockable Mirror Trickery
Ra's al Ghul (Sidar Kondo) and Face-Down Ninjas
Brudiclad, Token Engineer
Vaevictis (VV2) the Dire Lantern
Rona, Disciple of Gix
Tiana the Auror
Hallar
Ulrich the Politician
Zur the Rebel
Scorpion, Locust, Scarab, Egyptian Gods
O-Kagachi, Mathas, Mairsil
"Non-Tribal" Tribal Generals, Eggs
Let's assume they're saving it for Masters25 then.

They are not going to reprint it in standard.

Doomsdayin'
Me, I wanted commons that have risen well beyond common pricing. Simian Spirit Guide, Street Wraith, Lotus Petal, Chain Lightning, Ancient Stirrings, Sleight of Hand. (I don't know if they reprinted any of these, I haven't seen an itemized list of commons).
At least they likely put the smackdown on Mishra's Bauble hoarders.
