Everyone's freaking out over some gimmicky enchantment, meanwhile WotC just printed the modern day equivalent of Ancestral Recall and no one even noticed...
The card is much worse than Gaea's Cradle, I thought this would be obvious? Gaea's Cradle doesn't cost any mana to play...
It's probably still good though, makes me wonder if it's good enough for modern. It has to cut it in elves I'd say.
MTG arena looks terrible. Visually, I mean. Just so terribly generic. I'll probably still try it out, but it looks meh so far. Also no modern is a big minus.
That flip card is going to be worth about near the same value as snapcaster Mage
Not tarmogoyf because it's not going to be expedition rare.

No, just no. It is good, but not THAT good.
How
This is like instantiously easy to tell it will be a standard/modern/commander usable
Standard for dinosaur Ramp
Modern for elf decks
Commander...any deck with green
And now I'm officially wagering the flip cards are going to be slightly rarer than than mythics (not expedition rare tough which was this going to be.)
Snapcaster is used in more than one modern staple deck and it is used in Legacy. This is not going to be used in Legacy and is going to boost mainly one staple deck in modern.
There's three points I will give you for this not being in the $50 zone
1 it's much much slower on turn three the one and only modern deck that. An flip it faster is elf tribal modern
2 it's not reserved and this will probably. See far more printings
3 it's only rare and it's not going to be expedition rare (which is what was going to happen until they canceled that plan.)

Chart a Course is clearly one of the most powerful card draw spells we've seen in a very long time. Compare it to Tormenting Voice, which is already a pretty powerful card. And you can even CHOOSE wether you want to discard or not. Yeah... This card is no joke.
It's a lot closer to Lat-Nam's Legacy and Perilous Research (and similar cards) than Ancestral Recall, but I fully understand your point. It's really friggin' good.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
You have to look at these a bit beyond just being "2G for a Cradle"
It's more that you get the a creature out of the top 4, you get to sorta search for the land and play it (it's not taking the land drop even if you flip it that turn.). So yes its slower than Cradle but Cradle is ridiculously OP and even if it wasn't on the reserved list I doubt we would ever see it come back. They are trying to give you some extra value for that 2G upfront cost.
Chart a Course is basically a blue raid spell. I like it. I'm guess it doesn't spell out having raid since it could be reprinted.
Commune with Dinosaurs is pretty great, land fixing for early day and creature tutor for late game.
Otepec Huntmaster is busted. Normally you need to pay extra to get haste on a creature and he reduces it and just need to tap for haste.
I wish Thundering Spineback was lower p/t, less mana and higher cost to make a token.

The "Raid" condition on the card will be hard to pull off at times in certain decks. I can see Merfolk in Modern having a big interest in the card for sure. Maybe Grixis DS and Delver decks as well.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.

Yep and it's not easy to get to 4 creatures on the field probably will take like 1 to 3 turns after it comes out depending on the hand and ammount of removal the opponent has.
But commander it will be no problem reaching that number very quick.

It could probably work in some devotion builds for green as well, since that strategy is also about big mana threats getting onto the field quickly and building a board with small mana dorks and card engines can definitely trigger the flip. The challenge with that deck is the need to utilize Garruk Wildspeaker to act as both a win con and a way to accelerate mana.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Chart a Course is a better See Beyond. It's not hard for Blue to meet the raid condition, just swing with an unblockable creature Slither Blade. Then something heavier following turn, Kefnet the Mindful.
Well, the new "flip into land" cards have its advantages.
Not saying that the new cradle is better. Sure, you can instantly use the old cradle once you play it - that itself is an advantage and you have more control over it. The new flip cards are no doubt "slower", but they are kinda of ramp in itself if you think about it and it has bonus abilities. Gaea's Cradle is legendary anyway, so they would probably go hand in hand.
I don't know about the usage of Cradle in other formats, but it's a heavily-utilized card in EDH (for obvious reasons) to the point I suspect that besides the reserved list (and price memory), EDH is by ahead a large margin compared to Legacy/Vintage for the pricing for Cradle in particular.
The new land is generally weaker than Cradle, especially in combo-orientated competitive EDH where I assume the bulk of Cradles are in the first place, considering the price and considering that distribution (plus scarcity) I definitely do not see Cradle's price being affected negatively in any way (maybe a very small drop for a brief period, but definitely not beyond that).
All that being said, I wouldn't underestimate the new card either, it may be generally worse, but Cradle is such a powerful card that people are willing to risk destruction by laying it down on a turn without having their combo simply to accelerate their general gameplan (granted they likely have other massive mana production means elsewhere later, but still). EDH is still a singleton format and Cradle's effect definitely seems like the kind of effect you want "redundancy" for, considering people are willing to just lay it down for general usage and risk it for it's justified and more-often-than-not destruction.
It may be less than ideal, but people were willing to use the ideal card in less-than-ideal situations a lot of times, so I really don't see why people wouldn't want the less than ideal version as a bonus card anyway. In EDH the "mana tempo loss" from 3 mana is likely more negligible than elsewhere and the potential to have 2 Cradles out on the same turn because of that (no land drop tempo loss) is devastating and heavily worth some consideration.
I don't even think I'd play new cradle in modern elves. It doesn't help Elves weakness to spot removal. It doesn't improve your velocity. Would you really rather cast this card compared to Lead the Stampede. Elves already typically only plays a max of 8 noncreature spells to not miss on Collected Company. It also doesn't flip until end step, meaning you have to wait at least 1 turn to do anything. The typical elf games play out too fast for this card to be relevant.
In short, its win more. More mana when you should already be winning.
Chart a Course is excellent. The closest comparison is Night's Whisper, although the drawback is a bit stricter than the older card's. It's a great way to make a blue draw card that's specifically not for control decks.
The flip lands are just groovy, their power level completely aside. That said, I'm not as optimistic about Growing Rites in particular as a lot of people are. The front end is overcosted by a full mana, and getting a huge mana boost only once you already have a lot of creatures out is pretty narrow. It's obviously sweet in multiplayer games, though.
The legendary enchantment flips on endstep if you have 4 or more creatures and becomes a better Gaia's Cradle. I missed its etb effect. The back side distracted me.
Cool. I need this for my Arahbo Duel Commander deck then, it's a totally reasonble condition to meet.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
That enchantment tho... incredible! Great in at least two of my edh decks. This flip cycle is insane.
Now for the less exciting cards. I like that they are actually pushing both of these tribes and hope to see some fish and vampire support. The 1U draw two looks quite good in the right deck.
Of course, the game is interesting and should be fun to try. I am skeptical about the animations and sound effects, but it seems quite smooth.

All of the transform cards in this set remind me of the Legendary Quests from Hearthstone's Ungoro expansion and the quests from the original Zendikar. I'm glad they decided to bring that questing feel back to a set.
I din't noticed. Wich card is it?
Also isn't Treasure Cruise the modern equivalant to Ancestral Recall?

Who will play a one turn later Gaea's Cradle ? Even Gaea's Cradle is not that great in legacy. The sky high price is due to the reserve list.
