Hmm, that's a relatively tough transform condition but Maze of Ith is a bretty gud card, right? In the right circumstances this could be a control staple.
Our fourth story card. Looking like Jace might have joined up or stolen the compass from Vraska.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Seems valuable in whatever Dinosaur decks might surface in the new Standard, especially for mirror matches. It should be easy enough to get to seven lands fairly quickly.

Lapsed DCI Rules Advisor - Retired from playing but still hanging around
Trash.
By the time youre at 7 lands you shouldnt be caring about removing attacking creatures from combat because you should have won already
Except that the Maze of Ith is just the (mandatory) reward for activating it enough times to have 7+ lands. The real value comes from the Compass itself.

I mean not always. Control decks in standard formats could use a card that forces the opponent to over commit to the board continuously. Granted it's hard to imagine this card being amazing with such a high activation cost, but it is quite possibly playable.
The transformation isn't optional, so it's not a strict upgrade. I'll consider this for my Dakkon EDH deck, though, which currently runs Journeyer's Kite.
You can always bounce the compass to keep it from transforming, if you're really so greedy as to want more than seven lands.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Fixing and ramp for 2 mana... it is a big mana investment while Ramitupyour is Lightning Strike ing your face but if ramp can it will.
Artifacts matter type deck might love the mana dump.
What I don't like is the inability to interact with these after they transform, so I'm glad it takes a lot of time to get there. Running land destruction is a waste of sideboard slots :/
If control plays this over 7 mana and flips, zeros biggest threat every turn. Sad Panda times.
A nice way to implement Maze of Ith without making it available to all decks. This is strictly a control card. And once flipped, it's better than maze since it taps for mana.

Not exactly better
You can rescue your own creatures with the real maze but this can only hit opponents creatures.
Not quite. The Kite lets you filter lands out of your deck over and over, the Compass stops at seven lands. Admittedly, I'm thinking EDH land ratio, standard might have a different view on it.

This is true, but also reinforces pierre's point about it being 'strictly control'...
It would have been great if the Compass had a "may" on it, but it's still a decent card that might make a splash in Standard, if only briefly in some weird janky deck.

A Journeyer's Kite that transforms into a Maze of Ith could be cool.

Just cast this if you have seven lands and you have Maze of Ith.
