MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Why are 3/4's so uncommon nowdays? or even 4/4's? Why does everyone need that 3 toughness so they're just within the "killed my mostly everything" range? Should have been a 3/4 or a 4/4.
I just think it's hilarious that your opponent literally ends up making more mana than they spent to cast Fatal Push to kill this thing.
If that isn't a red flag to not play this in standard I don't know what is. Not only is this easily killed by the most important removal spell in the format, it rewards your opponent extremely well for doing so.

I get there are niche times this guy will be good. How many decks that you aren't going to beat anyways (standard) aren't playing any removal?
I think the flavor text is the joke and the truth. From all the 'what if's' I see side it in against no removal decks.
Ok, I'm good with that.

If played against Modern Burn, an opponent killing this with lightning bolt would allow them to cast another bolt and a lava spike on the same turn. Would have been a lot better as a 3/4.
Interesting take on a punisher mechanic and great flavor, too.
Seems like a huge gamble in any competitive format outside of EDH.
This isn't a punisher. (Punishers are things like Torment of Hailfire where an opponent gets to choose.) This is simply group hug. Or group slug if you're in BG and have the right kind of artifact hate. Or you can just run something like Null Rod or March of the Machines and make those treasure tokens irrelevant.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I'm starting to think this isn't as bad as it seems at a first look. Yes, it gets removed by almost anything, but that's also kind of the point. You use it to lure out removal, and with the aid of disruption, you can leave your opponent without enough interaction for the rest of your creatures. And, if they don't kill it, it will surely enough rip some good chunks of their lifepoints.
Remember kids, 20 years ago, this would have been the best creature ever printed.
flesh reaver used to be played in suicide black decks in vintage.
If only it was a 4\4, it could've seen modern play. I mean its possible it may see modern play since lightning bolt has been on the decline.
It would have been neat to have seen it templated in a way that would make it Fatal Push immune. Like make it cost 4B but with text "You may pay 3 less to cast ~. If you do, it enters the battlefield with a bounty counter on it. When ~ dies, if it had a bounty counter on it, target opponent creates two treasures..."
I really like this idea. Heck, they could have turned it into its own mechanic.
Wanted Scoundrels 4B
Creature - Human Pirate
Swindle 1B(You may cast this spell for its swindle cost. If you do, it enters the battlefield with a bounty counter on it.)
When Wanted Scoundrels dies, if it had a bounty counter on it, target opponent creates two colorless Treasure artifact tokens with "T, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool."
4/3
You could use it in all sorts of ways, even as a kicker variant. This would play well in a Limited environment with Treasures, as it would give you spells that can be upgraded if you have more mana.
Another example:
Skyship Hijacker 2U
Creature - Human Pirate
Swindle 5U(You may cast this spell for its swindle cost. If you do, it enters the battlefield with a bounty counter on it.)
Skyship Hijacker gets +2/+2 and has flying as long as it has a bounty counter on it.
2/3
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Well, then, I confess, it is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasely black guts out.
