I'm sure a lot of people requested Lightning Bolt, but the chances of that happening in standard are near zero at this point. They probably will put that one in either Masters 25 or Iconic Masters.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of the spoilers right now along with what we had leaked. I'm glad they "listened" to folks and added more answers, but it feels like they also missed the point that people are looking for stronger cards all around. Standard looks well balanced, but what about the sets Longevity?

Interesting how this card is followed by Unfriendly Fire. Just add 1 damage for additional 3.
The difference between 3 and 4 on a burn spell is massive.
The difference between 1R and 4R is more important than between 3 and 4 damage. And 4 damage for 3R existed in 8th where creatures had often lesser P/T.
You mean from over ten years ago? Yeah, not using that as a basis for today.
Worth noting that thanks to Strike we now have twelve burn spells that can hit players for 3 or more in Standard. Chandra, Torch of Defiance really helps with that deck. And there's also Sweltering Suns and Harnessed Lightning to help deal with creatures.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
A card like this shouldn't be uncommon. But at least it's back.
Eh. Open fire was either definitely or arguably the best common in Hour depending on who you ask. So it makes sense that lightning strike is at uncommon. It's not like its going to be expensive for constructed, there are about a billion of them out of the open market already.
I'm talking just to talk man, I've been immersed in standard since Theros/Khans, and barely made it through Marvel...this card will see a ton of play, just like it did during Theros/Khans.
The current standard is ending to quickly, we were just beginning to see brand new decks.

Take a mechanic from the pre-mirrodin era, and a mechanic after the mirrodin era, and create a card that flavorfully melds both mechanics.
Red decks get a big boost from this going forward.
At the very least, it will replace Incendiary Flow when that rotates out.

And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Good to see ya, bud. Been missing this card.
Oh. It was a common during Theros and M15? Well, it escalated quickly.
Fixed it for you.

Why do you care that it's uncommon? It has seen two prints at common, it's not as if it's going to be expensive either way.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.

One word: draft.
You mean from over ten years ago? Yeah, not using that as a basis for today.
Baral, Chief of Compliance is probably responsible for the more cautious spells like Open Fire and Unfriendly Fire. The Fires are better in tandem with Spark of Creativity and Combustible Gearhulk, where the higher mana costs are actually a good thing. Torrential Gearhulk can freecast them from your graveyard.

I can see UR Burn-Control being a thing in Standard now with Baral, Disallow, and Strike recreating the Lightning Bolt-Counterspell days of old. Spirebluff Canal really helps as a UR fastland.
