I getting the feeling that the plane of Ixalan strands interplanar beings to itself so that they're unable to leave the plane once they're on it? Kind of like a reversed Feroz's Ban?
That would make sense because we know that Angrath, another planeswalker, is also stranded there.
And hey, at least this gives a good reason for Hautli to still be on the plane even though she's native to the plane and a walker.
Edit: Or is this the influence of Orazca? Is this what is going to draw both Jace and Angrath to the golden city?

They confirmed it during the panel at Pax. Planeswalkers can't leave Ixalan, so Jace seems to be stuck there. At least for now, without some help. Maybe there will be something at the golden city that will help the planewalkers escape.
This seems to be like a pretty reasonable O-ring variant. Get rid of their best threat, and stop them casting another one.

So Vraska is also strained here, then? No wonder she had to build her influence. The irony is that Gideon once said that PWs are some of the only being in the multiverse who can choose to run away from trouble anytime they want, now that Jace is strained he'd have to learn to survive by better himself. Perhaps this is the intent of the plot.
Yeah seems Vraska is there and we know she seems to be doing something for Nicol Bolas. I can see Bolas possibly using the portal to get Vraska off Ixalan after finding the treasure and possibly Jace in some weird way using the portal to escape. May seem like a far fetched theory but I can see it.

I think that idea makes sense, we're already beginning to see character growth as he's already become a "Cunning Castaway". Perhaps this will lead to a future version of Jace where he adopts another color.
I wonder if that means that Huatli is a planeswalker that's never planeswalked? I mean, that sounds stupid, but it seems like it would have some interesting implications for the definition of a planeswalker when every other walker's first action as a planeswalker is to planeswalk (if I'm not mistaken).

I'd assume it's something similar to when Narset's spark ignited and she sort of planeswalked but didn't go to any other plane and instead immediately returned to Tarkir, except Narset had control over it while Huatli has no choice.

They mentioned this during the PAX panel. Can't remember their exact wording, but when Huatli spark ignited, she was awakened to there being wonders beyond here world, able to see that there was more out there, possibly even see other planes and the blind eternities. But due to the nature of Ixalan, she never actually took that step to another plane.
From what we see in this card, even trying to planeswalk just ends in failure.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Looks like Jace is Totally Lost!
This card will be really solid in draft.
Interested to see where the story goes from here. Somehow, Jace will have to figure out a way out of there. I'm guessing Nicol Bolas sent him there specifically so that he wouldn't have to deal with him anymore.

Didn't Jace planeswalk himself? I could have sworn that he just wanted to go anywhere so Bolas wouldn't completely destroy his mental state.

This is the case, yeah. He blindly planeswalked "anywhere" to escape his mind being destroyed by Bolas. It actually makes me wonder if Ixalan not only traps 'walkers on the plane, but also pulls them in, which would cause a blind/unfocused planeswalk to wind up there.

Please let this problem last longer than a set. Jace being out of the public eye would make it more interesting when he came back, and would make Ixalan a more interesting plane.

Remember what that was like?
No, it works because it also has Nevermore.
edit: wait, are you saying this card will forget what it exiled?
I thought it would just stay "set" to whatever card it was initially set to deny.

Basically, what "card" is being exiled by this card? There's nothing there.

Going to the command zone is a replacement effect. The commander never actually enters exile in the first place, so there's no "exiled card."

That would be very meta, but unfortunately whatever is at Orazca might hold the key to leaving the plane.
Thanks, that makes more sense now.
On another front, the flavor of this card feels a bit off to me,
considering we currently *are* in Ixalan.

Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
that's my guess
when they say "no one has ever returned"
i'm betting it's because they are essentially PW'd to another place
not because they are dead
which, if true, would be a clever take on the whole "explore the building no one has ever returned from" trope
