Ajani: We should hang out sometime. Like say, this Standard?
I had a feeling Huatli's set card would create green Dinosaur tokens. Green, being the central Dinosaur color, and Huatli being the two colors that are allies of green, it makes perfect sense.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Not feeling it. She's got nothing on Nahiri - the token is nice (although I'm screaming internally that it doesn't share a color with her), but that ult just seems clunky and slow. The lifegain technically makes sense, since aggressive Boros probably appreciates drawing the game out by keeping your life totals topped up, but still, not feeling it.
Shes not terribly. Just terribly uninspiring. In standard there are just better 5 drops, especially for somone trying to do the dino thing. And I dont feel like she merits even talking about in any other constructed format.
Honestly? I think this will only see play for her zero, and only in non-tribal decks. In Dinosaur decks, for only one more mana, Huatli, Dinosaur Knight has a +2 that actually affects the board and a removal minus. However, they do go pretty well as a pair, with the Knight taking the Poet's token and either pumping it or using it as a bolt a single turn after. Maybe this one is playable.
I'm fairly sure if there is a midrange deck that can support her colors, she'll get played, a 3/3 every turn with the ability to win out of nowhere in a stall is very, very powerful.
The 0 ability is what really appeals to me. Free 3/3 tramplers ain't nothing to scoff at. I'm not really a fan of lifegain for the sake of lifegain like her +2. The -X isn't terrible, but I'm going to be too busy making dinos to build up her counters.
Her "ultimate" also can trigger 3 of your dinos with enrage the turns she comes in.

"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
Ramunap Red splashing white--on turn 5 Huatli can prevent three blockers and let as much as 10 or 11 damage get through; alternatively, use the plus ability first to regain a few life points then prevent up to 5 blockers on turn 6, at which point you are probably attacking for lethal.
It is a shame that Ride Down is rotating out--that would have been an interesting take on that deck.
She's good for midrange mirrors and fairly decent against control I guess. My only problem with her is she competes with Glorybringer in the same spot so she won't see much play. I really wanted her to be good.
I think it could have been a strong walker if not for the +2. Many of the games where you will need the life you will not have a high toughness creature to activate. And then gaining life in general is not that great.
Also think the dinosaur tokens would have been much better with haste than with trample.
Overall a nice card but they could have pushed it without making it busted.
Ahhh. Going to have to add another color with my BW procession deck for her. Curving procession into her making 6 trampling power worth of dinos seems great to me. Now if we can get something to replace Westvale Abbey we'd be golden.
Heart of Kiran just got new designated drivers. The fact that you can crew the heart with it's alternate cost and then plus for 4 life seems quite good.

In my dream, the world had suffered a terrible disaster. A black haze shut out the sun, and the darkness was alive with the moans and screams of wounded people. Suddenly, a small light glowed. A candle flickered into life, symbol of hope for millions. A single tiny candle, shining in the ugly dark. I laughed and blew it out.
Many thanks to HotP Studios. Special thanks to DNC for this great sig.
I could accept that if it werent 4 dat +2
Wizards are aware that lifegain spells are unwelcome -.-
Were ok if you attach it as a secondary minor effect, but not this way !
I wish it was more like this
+2 If you control a creature with power 3 or greater, Draw a card & gain 3 life.
In the world of Magic the Nerfing, I don't see how bad this card is. In limited it's easily at least 4/5. In Standard it could be feasible in midrangy decks. In EDH I think there're niche spots for it.
It's definitely a thumbs up from me. Walker design space is not that big after all, so don't expect too much from the norm.
Interesting card. I don't think it'll really see much play, but who knows. If you play her while you're at parity with your opponent, you could just churn out a 3/3 every turn until you're ready to Falter their three best dudes and swing for the win.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
The problem with her is that she shares the same problem the new Jace, Cunning Castaway suffers, in that she has a very weak + ability. In fact, it is probably the weakest one in Magic as it is life gain and not only life gain, but board state dependent life gain. On top of which, she has 3 starting loyalty, which means the only reason she can be played at all is the complete lack of a Lightning Strike or Lightning Bolt in the format. I think she will look really impressive to a bunch of people at first and then people will move on to other options if they need a 5 drop, though she might see some sideboard play to maybe help stall out. Liliana, Death's Majesty is much stronger by comparison.

2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...

I think she's a bit stronger than most are giving her credit for. Getting her out on turn 4, if you're playing Naya, makes her about the same as Gideon, but of course when you need another card doesn't necessarily mean that. I think what makes her strong is the constant token production she has going on and that those tokens are quite threatening in even two or three of them. Tack on the ability to potentially get your tokens, or any other creatures you may have, through when you need to get in those last points of damage she could be a good card, not super oppressive like Gideon has been for a long time in this Standard season, but should never be disappointed drawing it and playing it.
She could potentially be in a token deck if there are any left. Instead of the W/B or W/B/G versions of it maybe we'll see W/R/B versions of the deck. Making two 3/3s a turn with Anointed Procession is bound to be powerful.

I just feel that there will almost always be better things to do with my 5 mana and limited slots for playing 5 mana spells. Why would I run this when I could get a Glorybringer for the same price? The metagame would have to shift in very particular ways for this to work out.

That was pretty interesting. But dropping a warship on me is cheating. Take it back!
To put this in perspective, Sand Strangler is an example of a card that is heavily underestimated because of the need to have a desert to use it's abilities. As it turns out, that is actually not very hard to do right now due to the glut of deserts in the format. Hautli, Warrior Poet is very much a "What you see is what you get" kind of card. If her abilities were set up like Garruk, Primal Hunter and the 3/3 dino token was a +1 than things would be far different, but as she stands right now she is not in a good position.
Scenario 1: 5 mana is the top of your curve, what do you want to be doing with that 5 mana? Well, if the top of the curve is 5 mana than the assumption is that the goal of the deck is to win before the game drags on beyond maybe turn 6, so what does Huatli give you?
1) if the board state is good and someone is playing Naya, maybe they have a Rhonas in play and +2 her for 5 life.
2) Make a 3/3 trample dinosaur that lacks haste so it can't attack until turn 6.
3) Sacrifice some loyalty or all of the loyalty to ping the opponents field and let attackers through.
Scenario 2: The top of the curve is at 6-7 mana. That puts Huatli as more of a support card to whatever bomb creature or spell one is aiming for, so lets assume we are going to go with this dinosaur enrage build that includes things that do stuff when they take damage.
1) Board state is good and there is some 4 drop on the field with decent power. +2 and gain 4-5 life.
2) Make a 3/3 trample dinosaur that can't attack until turn 6.
3) Sacrifice some Loyalty to trigger an enrage ability on the prior 4 drop.
In the second scenario, her being useful seems to be heavily dependent on that prior 4 drop. The 0 ability to make a token feels bad in both situations on the curve and the +2 is not really going to help a lot except draw the game out one more turns, which may be useful in the second scenario to help buy some time.
So all in all, how good she is highly depends on if the meta allows for someone to actually make it to her and start dragging the game out to get to some big bomb dinosaur. She could make it in a control build, but against the damage someone can put out with an aggressive mid-range build she probably wont buy more than one or two turns, and given mid-range has Gideon of the Trials and Chandra, Torch of Defiance they can probably etch out a win in a grindy match up. That isn't even getting into energy decks and the like that are still kicking around.

Card has power - I think people are fixating too much on the plus ability, considering she has a minus ability that you'll probably only use once.
Just a slow accumulation of unevasive and unhasted 3/3s is very different from something past boros decks have wanted.
but I'm guessing she'll work well in Naya and Mardu decks.

3 seems to be on the weak side.
but she has decent second and third abilities.... either way, I can't avoid seeing a worse version of Garruk, Primal Hunter anytime I look at her.
you could only use it once w/o using her +2...and would make the walker worth its casting cost
