My favorite eternal format is Kitchen Table Casual. I love adding new exciting cards to my existing decks. Too bad 99% of new cards are merely draft fodder and the entire value of a set is spread across 2-3 cards that were specifically pushed. It's why Zendikar boxes were going for $130 easily during it's time in standard and current boxes can be had for around $80... and good luck getting $80 worth of value out of a box of anything printed today. But hey, at least these new sets are "balanced", right?
Even kitchen table casual players should occasionally build new decks rather than just tweak their existing decks. Kaladesh Energy, for instance, doesn't especially lend itself to being a tweak to existing decks - you likely should build a deck around it.
Irony: because you insist on playing your decks that are dinosaurs, you'll never play a Dinosaur deck.
If the only cards in a set you're interested in from a set are the tournament pushed cards... I don't think you're really playing casual. You're playing tournament-mindset magic against players who probably haven't told you yet that you're taking casual magic too uncasually.

There's no reason a person can't use powerful cards in a casual environment. Counterspell is the 5th most played card on EDHRec.com but Confirm Suspicions didn't even make the list. Clearly this must be evidence that EDH is a format full of cutthroat spikes.
I am a Johnny/Spike/Vorthos/Melvin, and I approve this message.
I am familiar with most of these terms,
but what is a "melvin"?
As for this card, I think it will be a sleeper EDH hit,
not unlike Burnished Hart.
Of course tribal decks will love it,
but so will nongreen decks that want to power their commander out ASAP
(Kaalia, Gisela, Zur, etc).

I'm glad you asked. I'm a little hazy on the details, but Melvin is the opposite of a Vorthos, strictly speaking. You know that Vorthos is actually John, but to avoid confusion with Johnny/Jenny, he chose to use his 20th level Wizard's name instead. He is someone who enjoys the Magic Storyline and setting and is basically a flavor nut. The kind of guy that'll only play one of each legend since there is only one in existence. (And again, there's many shades to it, if you're interested Maro did a whole writeup on Magic mothership.)
Melvin is someone who enjoys the mechanics of the game. Moreso than Johnny who likes to see how the cards interact, Melvin loves the rules that govern the game. Consider a Top Down design for a set to be Vorthos, and a Bottom Up set to be Melvin, and you'd hit it pretty close.
However, Vorthos and Melvin don't factor into the Psychographic profiles since they are satisfied just by the game simply being printed. Each world has a story, flavor and art which satisfies Vorthos and each set has new mechanics and rules for those mechanics which makes Melvin happy.
On topic (before I get scolded): I rather like the Mana rock. It may not necessarily make the cut, as alot of new tribal cards don't these days, but I might test it in my Changeling EDH deck.
Post Scriptum - The following is the article where you can read about the Psychographic profiles if you happen to be interested.
And @schindar and @knto you are kidding yourselves if you think you aren't Spikes. Read the article and alot of what is under Spikes matches, almost verbatim, what you've posted here. (And it's nothing to be ashamed of. Its how you play the game.)
Edit: I felt obliged to edit and correct my stance given my recent rereading of above said article.
Vorthos' "real name is actually John, but since there's already a “Johnny” in the mix, he opted to go with the name of his 16th level half-elven ranger/warmage." Taken directly from the article.
And Timmy/Tammy can be a power gamer, but is first and foremost playing to experience something. Johnny/Jenny can be a combo player, but first and foremost plays to express themselves. And Spike may or may not be a highly competitive gamer, but they play to prove something. Give it some thought, read the article, redefine your gaming experience!
Edit 2: Okay, okay, this is the last one I swear it! I felt compelled to search out the Vorthos/Melvin article for those interested. Below is the link. Have fun educating yourself!

Also why are we expressing dissatisfaction that the current Standard isn't Zendikar-tier in terms of power on a thread about a 2-mana tribal mana rock again? Was this thing supposed to be 0 mana or something?

Umm, I believe it was you who got the ball rolling on this one. I said this card looked good for my dragon deck but didn't know of or care about it's Standard applications. You replied that I had a problem because I was judging it on merits other than Standard and Limited potential. Ring a bell?
This is why the edh precons were week. Cards like this were left out in order to sell packs of ixalan if you bought the precon and wanted to maintain tribal support.

This is an uncommon buying it for say $1 or so is a far better deal than buying packs trying to open one. If they wanted to really make people opt for busting this card for their Tribal EDH decks they would bump it to rare.

If a store opens a pack they paid $2.25, sell one uncommon for a $1, and the rest for more than $1.25, they make bank.
If buy a pack for $4+tax, open the uncommon, and have to throw away the rest because it has $0.001 trade in value and no one wishes to trade for the cards.
It's not always about the player buying packs, but stores to buy product and re-sell them to people to buy. In essence, the product is still sold to player, but many players now share the cost of the product.
Good rock for tribal. End thread.

Touche. Let's just agree that it can be useful in tribal decks and leave it at that.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
