Well wow. I applaud what they've done, and am excited to see the cards in all their unblurry glory. Here's looking forward to the rest of the spoiler season. The set looks really fun to play, the artwork is amazing, and I can't wait to draft and brew!
I am loving the flavor of this set, and cannot wait to read more about Ixalan's factions, especially the Legion of Dusk. I am looking forward some Vampire Conquistadors.
I think it's because we are going to a world that is more open-ended fantasy that has me hyped. It's not like Steampunk Kaladesh and overwhelmingly Egyptian Amonkhet. Ixalan's Meso-American and Pirate Fantasy themes are meshing pleasantly well together and is just a nice break from the two recent set themes.
I hadn't been following the story discussions in connection with the leaks, but it appears that River's Rebuke confirms that Vraska is working for Bolas.
Possibly so. Based on the wording, the Hostage Taker can target itself, which will then exile itself until it leaves the battlefield, at which point it reenters the battlefield and may then target itself. Too costly to use with Verdant Sun's Avatar but with Decoction Module you can generate infinite energy. Other formats have plenty of "when another creature enters the battlefield" triggers that should work with it.
Oh, no--Panharmonicon. *sigh* That opens up possibilities--Quarry Hauler to put enough loyalty counters on a planeswalker to cash in their ultimate or creatures with fabricate to create infinite servo tokens, etc.
*whew* At least they fixed it now rather than having to have another emergency ban only a week or two after rotation.
You can still abuse it with Panharmonicon, though, which is what I plan on investigating...or you can just summon a second Hostage Taker, targeting the first one.
What does the removal of the Planeswalker Uniqueness Rule, and the subsequent errata of all Planeswalkers to Legendary do to Commander, you think? Did they do this to make room for the format to use Walkers as commanders?

I don't know about that. You still can't use other legendary permanents as commanders, though. No Elbrus or Genju as your commander.

I hate the change to the planeswalker rule....
they've thrown the flavor out of the window.
They threw the same flavor out the window over a decade ago when they allowed two representations of the same legendary creature to coexist. The multiverse survived Balthor or Kamahl standing side by side with other versions of themselves; this too shall pass.
Why is Rowdy Crew mythic? There's nothing mythic about it.
I think WotC's definition of "mythic" has become a mix of "splashy or experimental but bad," "any high-profile character," and "just pushed enough to be standard playable." usually the first and third options don't overlap.

That's an intro pack rare if I've ever seen one but I'd be happier if all mythics looked like this instead of being format defining, high ticket cards. Standard should be cheaper than it is.

I am no longer looking forward to this set. I am not a fan of ether flip cards nor vehicles and this set prolongs them in standard and puts the both in the same draft format. Boo.I especially dislike flip cards. They tell everyone exactly what you are drafting, add logistic issues of hunting down enough flip cards or buying sleeves, and slow game play by having to take them out of sleeves to flip them. I really dislike the fact they are back

I am literally losing my mind with this set. I'm going to the pre-release and buying into this set, no doubt about it. Just solid all around.

It seems like they errata'd this.
