The art is a little bit silly. Why a flying vampire knight needs a horse?
I found the art pretty cool. It also seems to me as if he is holding the reins of the horse for whoever his liege would be.

The artwork is almost comical. When you can fly, what do you need a horse for (an undead one, even)?
There's been a lot of Voltron stuff in the last few days. This cards plays well with the newly spoiled legend though (if you can gain enough life), very aggresive.
I'll never understand why this forum gets so hung up on the art. Maybe it's one of those slow hovering vampires and the undead horse is much faster, giving it haste.
Here comes a few years of everyone being the first to point out"why is there a horse in the picture if it can fly?"
Maybe it was his horse in life and he likes just having it around.
Huh, that didn't occur to me at first glance. Changes things completely of course, it's pretty cool if you think about it like that.
He's also floating in the air while he's holding those reins, its not obvious without shadows but the perspective makes it clear, so he's all flying and stuff
I always thought Bastion Protector was cool so I'm happy to see this. But now I want to see one in a color I actually like. G or U granting hexproof would be amazing, maybe too good. Lifelink from black would be pretty good too.
I wonder if this will be a cycle they complete over several years by adding a card each year, like the Magus cycle (except skipping C16 because it's kind of broken with partner)...
I'm no Commander player, but red getting a 4/4 flying with your upside and no drawback is silly powercreep and once more completely ignoring the natural weaknesses of R&D's pet color red or blue.
Huh? Thunderbreak Regent? And how is this 'powercreep'? Card is pretty fairly costed. I actually wish it had haste.

If you were a commander player you'd know that a 4/4 flying for 4 is meh but the upside of the ability is what makes this playable at all. They just released a 4 mana 6/5 flyer with haste and random downside sometimes and this community is still on the fence about it lol
WOW. Red rarely gets a 4/4 flyer for 4 without drawback. This is really quite good.
I hope they finish the cycle in this set.
I'll expect blue to give flying and hopefully the black grants lifelink.
Well, the drawback here is the lack of Haste. And that you need a Commander to make it viable, though that's somewhat obviated by it being in the Commander product, of course.
Decent filler for the deck.

And? The Steward doesn't say that Edgar Markov gains Haste, but that your Commanders gain Haste. So it has three main applications:
1) Edgar Markov isn't your Commander. (Whee~!)
2) You steal your opponent's Commander.
3) You have multiple Commanders (Partner)
I assumed since it's in the Vampire deck (being a Vampire) that it would interact with him. Though I guess one could use Licia or something instead and have Haste this way.

The art looks like it's from Innistrad, right?
Certainly looks Innistradi to me. And while it doesn't have its full effect with Edgar--though with at least one 'take opponent's creature' card in the deck so far 2) is a viable option--it still gives him +2/+2. Personally, I am very happy that the decks aren't too tailored to the face Commander.

The horse isn't for him. He's a steward; he's readying it for his master. That's why he gives haste but doesn't have it.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Horse isn't for him, he's bringing the commander a mount, hence haste.

Maybe it was his horse in life and he likes just having it around.
For this card, he serves his master. Until we have a legendary horse creature, this art works very well to represent the card.

Nice to see your Commander can now have a Housecarl.

You didn't have to point that out.
Are you looking at this card standard or modern eyes? Red is the least effective colour in EDH. Everyone knows Colourless is R&Ds pet colour.
It feels like you are trolling. Without your Commander you have an Air Elemental for 1 less mana. That's OK "power creep" over 23 years.
