So, what's the best way to "secretly choose an opponent?" Write it down on a piece of paper and go "Wah-lah! It's you!" *points finger* Talk about a strange card.
I really like Mirri, and since we're going back to Dominaria next spring, the flavor is on point. I don't follow story too deeply, so I am wondering if Mirri somehow got reverted to normal after turning vampire (from Time Spiral block).
The vampire version was an alternate timeline thing.
Wow, Mirri is so, so good. Loses vigilance but gains a combat inhibitor. Seth's Tiger is a sweet reprtint too, and the new Leonin is sure to slow some combat. Nice cards here.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Does the Stalking Leonin need to remain on the battlefield for his "reveal" trigger to work? Or is this some kind of delayed trigger that works without him on the board?
Yes. The cost of exiling a creature attacking you is to reveal the chosen player's name and you can only do that with the leonin on the board.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
I hate that mirri. Mirri, Cat Warrior
I like my Mirri 2/3 First Strike, Vigilance all day long. Her other abilities are rather unique, but gibberish. It could easily have been "As long as this creature is untapped, only one creature can attack you." No need to give my other attackers stalking.
Secretly Choosing seems awesome. Has white gotten a 3/3 for 2W before? Seems too good.

New Mirri is more intended for multiplayer game, so understandably suppressive.
That said, MIRRI!!! I miss you, welcome come back.
Just a random trivia note - Maro totally missed pointing out in his history of cats article that Mirri, Cat Warrior is possibly unique in another way - she was mis-reprinted as a 2/2 rather than a 2/3, so there are versions of her with the wrong stats. I can't think of any other creature that effectively has a power and toughness errata. (I'd link the card, but apparently mtgsalvation doesn't have Anthologies in the card database).
Would it be too much to make her a 3/3? Really nice abilities.
Does it matter? 99% of playable spot removal is going to hit her at 3 or 2 regardless, and first strike makes her toughness in combat irrelevant.
In fairness, this is recruitable by Recruiter of the Guard . I can see someone at least trying a G/W version with this, Teeg and Pridemage in the board now.
Edit: I mean this in the Legacy format. Limiting access with this and Teeg could be flat backbreaking to any creature strategy.
The best part about a new Mirri card is that it is the first example (as far as I can recall) of them introducing a new legendary creature card of a pre-existing character that already has a legendary creature card that isn't due to a new development in the story or a return to a setting that prompts revisiting characters with new designs. They could have made up an entirely new character, but instead just gave the crowd a familiar face. A new Baron Sengir card just got a whole lot more likely.
I also am happy Mirri got a more worthy representation in card form than a french vanilla.

This definitely opens the doors big-time for characters who have been done dirty by mediocre cards in the past. I'm still not banking on the Baron this year, since this feels like it could be a "testing the waters" type of card, but if Mirri 3 proves popular I think that's great news for guys like the Baron and Gerard.
Instead of using pencil and paper and stuffing the paper under the card with the chance of it getting accidentally revealed, most people have phones nowadays, so you could just text yourself or someone else the name you've chosen, and then reveal it when needed. No paper required that way.
If you're thinking about logistical or other possible problems with the way it could be abused, then that is likely a problem with the people you're playing with if it's going to go that far.
I also like Stalking Leonin. Sniper Cat is sniping. Sneaky little rascal. :3

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Wait, if I'm reading this right, Mirri is going straight in a bunch of token decks.
Mirri, Cat Warrior was caught in that odd place, early in the Weatherlight saga, when legends didn't have to feel legendary. (Yeah, vigilance wasn't keyworded then, but it was common enough.) She was simply an efficient weenie for I-refuse-to-call-a-deck-Stompy-without-Winter Orb. (Seriously, I do.) When Planar Chaos came around, she replaced vigilance with haste, forestwalk (which is a bit swingy TBH, it's either useless or annoying af) with flying, and added the Sengir Vampire ability. She also made an about face. (Geddit? Because she's 3/2 instead of 2/3. Great, now I'm reffing really old cards nobody remembers.)
But neither struck me as particularly legendary, also a problem for otherWeatherlightshipmates. (This was not unique to the good guys: Gallowbraid and Morinfen are utterly forgettable.) For Mirri, I guess this isn't saying too much, as she's basically a pun. This, though, this looks surprisingly...good.
Now I want future "updated" Orim and Gerrard cards, and maybe a five-color (or RGWU) Sisay. #JustRebootTheWholeCrew

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
