I don't necessarily think that Transformers or Nerf cards were good fits for Magic either, but I still prefer them to MLP.
And i would be fine if they made pony cards. If you ever playe dteh game "smash up" they made a pony faction, while it does cater to bronies in a sense, it is indeed just a faction that has ponies in it.
Grated AEG does rip off (or more so parody) many franchises so i guess the argument is somewhat moot, but ponies as a race could work so long as rainbow dash does not become a thing. (Although Rainbow Blast could be a cool spell)
In case anyone cares, MaRo confirmed that Grimlock buffs ALL creatures that transform (i.e. basically all double sided creatures other than Flip-walkers and meld-ers)
This is actually really cool. It wouldn't surprise me if Grimlock was just accepted as an actual card for Commander purposes. Unless the back side is somehow super crazy it shouldn't be too hard to consider it.
From what I understand, Nerf War and Grimlock are only promos and not actually in the set, whereas the sword actually is. I would imagine people rolling up with nerf guns would be pretty sad to find that out. >_>

MLPs fandom is a bit too weird for me, and anyone who thinks that they are the same as a transformers crowd or a nerf crowd needs to step out of the darkness and into the light.
Personally the only crossover card I like is the D&D sword. The other two cards just aren't very neat, the same as how I imagine an MLP card would be.
MLPs fandom is a bit too weird for me, and anyone who thinks that they are the same as a transformers crowd or a nerf crowd needs to step out of the darkness and into the light.
Weird how? They're all toys. It's all fiction. Heavens forbid magical unicorns and pegasi appear in a Magic card game. But transforming alien robots are just fine apparently (and no, I don't have a problem with them myself, but I see no reason to be hypocritical).
I think people who have lingering stigma about ponies need to "step out of the darkness and into the light".
At any rate, it's all silver border "for fun" cards, so it's not like they're going to show up at those precious black border FNMs and Grand Pro Tours and mess up all the serious business with filthy casual fun.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
People are still talking about My Little Pony? Why does that franchise bring the worst out of people?
Those who hate it need to get over it: there's no reason to hate something so inane so vociferously. It's just talking horses who like each other. Those who love it need to get over it: we get it that you like this product. That's cool. We don't care.
Hasbro owns all kinds of crap. Nobody's talking about the lack of Candyland characters.
At any rate, it's all silver border "for fun" cards, so it's not like they're going to show up at those precious black border FNMs and Grand Pro Tours and mess up all the serious business with filthy casual fun.
It's also not even as if they'll show up in the actual silver-border set they're promoting (barring the D&D one, which works for both flavor and meta humor in regards to Magic). It's a convention promo crossover that almost nobody is going to get their hands on, who gives a ***** what's on it?
As it stands, I can basically guarantee the only reason they didn't opt to do an MLP crossover card is for exactly this kind of backlash. I'm not even pining for there to have been an MLP card, it's just really annoying popping into this thread occasionally only to see yet another torrent of why or why not MLP should or shouldn't have gotten a crossover card. IT'S A PROMO, WHO CARES.
Given the criteria (brand crossover for purely promotional purposes), it probably should have. It's one of Hasbro's most successful properties, and the company is very aware of the decidedly-not-just-little-girls demographic to which it appeals, a surprising amount of which probably also plays Magic.
In spite of all this, it still didn't get a card. End of discussion. Now can we get back to talking about the cards we actually did get?
All I care about is that this sword is going strait into my EDH "swords" artifact deck. Artwork matches the original swords and protection from rogues and clerics seems ironically relevant.

For the record, I wasn't saying any of the three Hascon promos should have been MLP, I simply liked the mechanical theme of using an actual toy or other object involved with each card's franchise and, being a FiM fan myself, ventured what MLP takes on that theme could be like. I never intended for the discussion to derail into arguments about the FiM fandom, I was just expressing something I liked.
But I myself have complained about topics getting derailed before, so I'll leave it at that.

In that case I call them out on the lack of reminder text. Capitalized words are not supposed to be used that way. I understand that their hand is forced due to the fact that they are refering to the proper name of another franchise, and that's okay. Hence I'm not saying the actual rules text needs to be altered, but actual reminder text added to resolve the ambiguity.

He's an autobot because its for HasbroCON. Hasbro owns the rights to transformers. Its just a fun card that crosses the brands and promotes 2 Hasbro company assets at once. Plus you have to have a transformers toy to flip him to a 8/8 trample dinobot. Its all marketing
If Sword of Dungeons and Dragons is any indication, maybe Unstable will provide cards that are actually playable - even if it were only for Cube (like the conspiracies and draft-matters cards which are pretty much useless outside of drafting - at least a great percentage of them are useless). Since these cards are aimed at tribes and synergy, maybe there'll be rules for building silver-bordered commander decks.
As of now, there are only 5 legendary silver-bordered legendary creatures - all of them monocolored and none of them are black (Frankie Peanuts, Jalum Grifter, Johnny, Combo Player, Richard Garfield, Ph.D., and Timmy, Power Gamer). With only Unglued and Unhinged (and the Happy Holidays promos as well) it's nigh impossible to build a silver-bordered Commander deck - regardless if it's functional or not; there's simply not enough cards. However, most silverbordered cards are pretty broken and some are too ridiculous. So maybe if there is subset of rules for EDH where you could only use silverbordered cards, that would be one thing. Whether you can mix cards, I'd doubt that. The decks would be too broken if you can mix cards from regular magic with un-sets.
Although these cards are probably for collectors or people to use in Cubes or whatever, they'll probably become ridiculously expensive. So it'd be a bummer to actually invest in them only as a collector item and not be able to use them. Hopefully, a legit set of rules will emerge where you could build EDH decks with only silver-bordered cards. Would there be enough cards to make them viable? Who knows. Maybe you could only use the legendary creatures? Because Grimlock, Dinobot Leader is pretty amazing as a standalone card. If it could be used as the commander of a legit deck with vehicles, dinosaurs, and werewolves, that'd be pretty effing cool. Lupin Prototype is already used with vehicles, so how epic would that be?

Regarding silverbordered legendaries and Commander... I am not having high hopes for my playgroup. I would like Grimlock to be the dream coimmander, but I already am annoyed by its ambiguous wording and unsatisfying and seemingly arbitrary rulings. I sure hope the concepts are stronger and more intuitive for the actually rules-bending cards in Unstable.

This has been linked as a reply to me so let me clarify what I assume you have missed about my statement: I have no problem with Grimlock being an Autobot or Dinobot - I think that's shiny and all. I just am questioning why its name says explicitly "Dinobot" and its typeline contradicts that and says "Autobot". The type of trandformer does not turn into an automobile/Vehicle, but into a Dinosaur creature. Though I'm not quite certain on those - I recall Autobots and Decpeticons being factions and then there were Dinobots in Beastwars maybe? Weren't the Dinobots though the Decepticon equivalent? I am a little foggy on the details whether Autobots are supposed to be a group including Dinobots.

Based on Grimlock's wording, it doesn't "transform" or "convert", it simply becomes the name , stats, and abilities of the named card.
Which is kind of just okay in black border to do. Theme and flavor aside of what the card is about of course.
I was just thinking the exact same thing. It was curious to me that the text wasn't simply "2, Convert a Transformers toy you own to its other mode: Transform Grimlock, Dinobot Leader." and "2, Convert a Transformers toy you own to its other mode: Transform Grimlock, Ferocious King."
Could this be part of the Oracle update due to WotC updating the previous unsets? "Transform ~" is way shorter than "Tranform ~ into ~." If this is an indication, maybe we would also see it in the new FTV product which is all about transforming.
My YouTube Channel: The Commander Tavern - a channel I just started where I'll post deck techs and gameplays. Please support by checking it out. Maybe you'll like its content and subscribe! Thanks!
Reading this thread and some others, there is a legal concern to put the action keyword of "transform" from Magic TG on a card using a Transformers license character thing.
That is all I know. This could just be the easiest way around it. I highly doubt they will change the rulings and wordings on all the Double-Faced cards. Moonmist would be quite useless if the wording did change. And at that point, I think flip cards could become like how DFCs are. ***
***Magic is a physical object game, unlike some competitors that can do weird effects making random digital objects. Momoir Sig and such are as close as you'll get to making random things. So all cards must work as printed as a physical object and why just putting, "This card becomes this other card" doesn't work.
