I think you're assuming I mean something about "cringe-worthy" that I don't mean. It's true, though, that I have a negative opinion of MLP fandom, and it has nothing to do with feminine vs. masculine.
Well, whatever is "wrong" with the MLP fandom is "wrong" with every fandom. Bad fanfics? R34*? Fetishy R34*? Grimdark fanart? Bigoted/hateful/otherwise bad comments? You'll find that stuff in any fandom, including this one. Instead of hating an entire fandom and its franchise, try understanding that immature, idiotic, and downright creepy "fans" are unfortunately one of those endemic evils of fandom itself, and it doesn't mean everyone in the fandom applies to the negative stereotypes. Personally, I love the positive parts of MLP and its fandom; the adorable characters, the fanart ranging from funny to gorgeous, the inspired fanmade music, the fangames. There's a lot of effort put into the better parts of the fandom, as with any fandom, including this one.
*I don't necessarily consider these bad, but there is a degree of responsibility to be exercised as with any adult content.
I don't disagree with what you're saying. We can't judge an entire group of people based on the very worst individuals in it. But if most people don't want cards for cartoon talking horses in a shameless attempt to cater to grown men who enjoy a show intended for 7 year old girls, well, I can't really blame people for being against that.
That's not to say that people who do enjoy MLP are wrong for doing so. Sure, it's a little weird but we all do weird things and it isn't hurting anyone so you do you. That being said, regardless of our opinions on the show or fandom, I think that the vast majority of us can agree that such cards have no place in MtG, not even in silver border. The Nerf and Transformers cards are already pushing the boundaries quite a bit (as shown by comments in this thread) and MLP would be even worse. A lot worse.
If you want to enjoy MLP, that's fine. But I'd prefer it remains seperate from Magic.
Nerf War seems a bit too crazy. The logistics of it seem a bit too much, first like needing a Nerf gun, then hoping no one gets hit in the eye, or anything getting damaged (cards or other property). Then again this is all for fun so Hasbro and Magic had a chance to do some crazy stuff so good for them.
The Transformers card fits well with Magic's rules, both flipping and being a vehicle. With Dinosaurs coming out and Vehicles being around as long as the back side of it isn't too crazy could easily be played in Commander without much issue.
Personally I wouldn't have minded and MLP card, and with this being just a random bit of swag (swag being the 2000's term for convention goodies and not the current hip term that was a fad) it doesn't bother me if they get a little nutty with this stuff and the cross promotion isn't a terrible thing. The brand is popular and with the movie for it coming out soon it would have been a decent place to put one. If you hate the fandom or the show or you love it all this kind of thing is for fun and seeing these joke cards is no big deal when it's in a product like this, or like with the Sword of D&D being in Unstable. If Wizards can't have fun with this kind of thing every so often then what's the point?
Please, PLEASE try to discuss things in a civilized way. I know MLP is very divisive, to say the least, but there's no need to flame it or the people who enjoy it.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
I'm taking gold as "multicolor without having any colors", same way Wastes are basic lands without a basic land type.
Maro on his tumblr says that it's just a monocolored card that is gold. Un-cards are allowed to do weird colors. Like the card that makes pink tokens. And tokens never have a color identity dot printed on them anyway.
If you want to enjoy MLP, that's fine. But I'd prefer it remains seperate from Magic.
Well, obviously we don't want too much overlap. The only reason they do so is because of the convention. Those other cards are probably not even in decks that allow UN-stuff.
But for a moment I saw only three cards in a /004 set so I hoped.
My little pony? I think the last time i heard about my little pony was in an a Fun factory ad on a saturday morning in 1988..
You should check out the new series though, it's amazing.
The downside is that it's popular and some fans are weird. So naturally it's cool to hate on it.

The belief that MLP was created solely for girls is actually false. It was created for boys and girls (using Dungeons & Dragons as the base, believe it or not; where do you think unicorn teleportation came from?), but because of lingering societal attitudes about gender the show's branding started promoting it as a girls' toy franchise. And the current generation of MLP, Friendship is Magic, was created by Lauren Faust to be enjoyable for adults as well as kids, of any gender.
And considering we're talking about silver-border cards here, how does bringing in other franchises, MLP or otherwise, do any harm? It's a fun thing for fans who want it.
These days, everything is divisive. Name one franchise you like. Chances are someone will hate you for liking that franchise even though it's completely irrational. But the haters have no right to decide what you like. And they have no right to stop you from expressing your love for that franchise within a reasonable, nondisruptive capacity. And if they can't handle playing against a card with a pony on it, you can find better, more mature players.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I wonder if you can make Grimlock your general and it pumps all DFc's e.g. "transformers". Well if you can argue that in your casual group I think you can.
That fold dragon foil is pimp. I'm pretty sure that is unattainable for me but yeah that's a great collectible.
It should be pretty attainable. Only the Nerf and Grimlock cards are HasCon exclusives, the sword and token are part of the new Un set, , which is already on record as having foil tokens. I doubt it goes for more than a few dollars.
Oh you are right. Great news! I like the dragon art, and how it looks D&D-ey.
I don't disagree with what you're saying. We can't judge an entire group of people based on the very worst individuals in it. I don't see how it's better to cater to grown men who enjoy toy commercial cartoons featuring robots that shoot guns than to cater to grown men who enjoy toy commercial cartoons featuring ponies. Also, spoiler alert: not all Magic fans are men (or grown, for that matter)
The unsets names so far have been synonyms for 'crazy' (Unglued/Unhinged/Unstable), and that glued/hinged conveying 'joined' is secondary.
To add to this, one definition of stable is "fixed" or unmoving, so to describe something as unstable could just as easily suggest something will fall apart as unglued or unhinged would.
That said, I love the way they're handling the silver border here, visually. These are some of the best looking promos I've seen in a while, and I hope the quality here holds true in the real set.
Alongside the obvious external reference to D&D, I also really like the internal reference to the existing cycle of Swords in Magic, and I feel like the combination really fits well. It's also a really fun, playable card, and aside from the minor potential color confusion over the token (which can still be reasoned out easily enough), this is absolutely a card I could get behind playing in a casual format that isn't strictly Un-focused (pun intended).
Grimlock looks neat, although I don't truthfully care for it too much. It doesn't do anything especially exciting, and the reference feels a little shoehorned to me (which is fine for a convention promo). Same goes for Nerf War, although I got a really good laugh out of that flavor text, and am in love with that card frame (I would love to see that sort of design become normal for multicolored cards in black-border sets).
Overall, these look great, and I'm now more excited than ever to see how Unstable turns out (as if I wasn't enough already).
So if you have "Choose a color" is gold now a legal color?

How is it ANY better? It's exactly the same thing in my mind. This notion that it's "okay" for grown adults to like toy commercials that were marketed to boys in the 80s but somehow "not okay" or even "less okay" for grown adults to like toy commercials that were marketed to girls in the 80s is a ridiculous double standard and severe nerd gatekeeping.
In case anyone cares, MaRo confirmed that Grimlock buffs ALL creatures that transform (i.e. basically all double sided creatures other than Flip-walkers and meld-ers)

Only because the toys and cartoon were aimed for the male demographic.
It does not mean it is good it is just better. You have two evils, one is better than the other but it is still evil.

I agree with this. I don't like Transformers, Nerf, or MLP (or, at least, I would not be considered in the fandom of any of them) but I have to say, I would probably be much more interested in a MLP crossover card than the ones we got. More on the potential aesthetics than anything else, but I see no reason why we, as a community, should treat a Transformers crossover and a MLP crossover card any differently.

I actually feel that MLP would be the best crossover. It could easily be the animal of Unstable, and in a normal set as Horse is already a creature type. Just don't want to see a Twilight twinkle or whatever.
I'm still a bit skeptical that it was originally intended to be gender-neutral but it doesn't really matter. It's a rather small part of a much larger argument, so let's just move on. What I am very skeptical of is that the show was actually intended for adults. Even if it was intended for adults, even if the creator says that it was (which is probably revisionist history but whatever), it still isn't what society considers to be aimed at adults (which has been made clear by the general population's overwhelmingly negative opinion of bronies), so people are going to find it strange to see a large group of adults who are heavily invested in it.
Even if you're someone like me who isn't a fan of MLP but doesn't have any real problem with the adult fans of it, you still would rather not be associated with that group of people. An officially printed MLP card would bring Magic fans and MLP fans closer together, which is something that most non-brony Magic players have no desire to see happen.
And considering we're talking about silver-border cards here, how does bringing in other franchises, MLP or otherwise, do any harm? It's a fun thing for fans who want it.
1. Bringing in any other franchise could be considered a shameless marketing gimmick. I don't really have that much of a problem with it but some people do.
2. Other franchises don't really feel like Magic. Transformers and Nerf are worse than D&D in that regard, and I think that MLP would probably be worse than any of them.
3. As I said, an MLP card would be clearly intended for bronies, and non-bronies don't want Magic and bronies to become more interconnected, mainly because bronies are societal taboo that most of us don't want to be associated with. (Again, this doesn't require hating bronies, only not wanting to be associated with bronies.)
These days, everything is divisive. Name one franchise you like. Chances are someone will hate you for liking that franchise even though it's completely irrational.
I don't hate people who like MLP (although society kind of does). Look, I don't care what you do in your free time as long as it doesn't invade what I do in mine.
But the haters have no right to decide what you like. And they have no right to stop you from expressing your love for that franchise within a reasonable, nondisruptive capacity.
Agreed. You can like what you want and express your love for it. But you can do both of those things without it becoming part of Magic.
And if they can't handle playing against a card with a pony on it, you can find better, more mature players.
Ignoring the irony of using the word "mature" in this context, I'd like to point out that there's a difference between not wanting something to exist and not being able to cope with that something existing. If it existed, I could live with it, but I'd still like a world where it doesn't exist more than a world where it does.

You're comparing apples to oranges. There's a fine line between enjoying something childish for nostalgic reasons and being an active and devoted fan of it as a adult. The Transformers card appeals mostly to people who will enjoy it for nostalgia, while a hypothetical MLP card would mostly appeal to active adult fans. A reasonable anount of nostalgic enjoyment for a children's brand is more socially acceptable than an active cult following of adults. Who would have guessed?
Also, spoiler alert: not all Magic fans are men (or grown, for that matter)
I never said that they were. I only said that a MLP card would be catering to adult men, because that's what bronies are by definition.
He blatently said outright that Transformers and nerf were not much better.
Once again, it's not about adults enjoying things from their childhood in the 80s or whenever else, it's about people who are actively taking part in a fandom for a children's TV show/toy brand as adults. If the "boy's toy" was the one with an adult cult following and the "girl's toy" was the one without it, then it would be the girl's one that people would be more open to seeing on promo cards, so stop pretending that it's sexism.
Also, I'd like to clarify that this is not about what it's "okay" or not for you to like; it's about what should or should not appear on Magic cards. I'm perfectly okay with you or anyone else liking MLP, I just don't think that MLP cards would be a good fit for Magic. I don't necessarily think that Transformers or Nerf cards were good fits for Magic either, but I still prefer them to MLP.
